  1. Boundaries are loving and TRUE gentle parenting should look like this: giving a logical consequence every time they misbehave while showing them love through co-regulation (offering love/hugs during tantrums is actually backed by neuroscience). My middle child is VERY emotionally reactive & I know that every time I give her a consequence, she is going to have a tantrum. But that doesn’t stop me from giving them & I’m not afraid of her tantruming because I have the tools to deal with them so they can be over in a matter of minutes. It starts with regulating myself & staying calm while never giving in to the objective of her tantrum. If you’re wondering what started this whole meltdown in the first place, I had put pieces of sausage in her scrambled eggs & she wanted ME to take them out. I told her she needed to do it herself and started filming a video, but then she had a bit of a delayed reaction & threw her scissors to test me. Toddlers are always testing because they want to see what they can get away with & also whether or not your love is unconditional. I never make my children feel rejected or unloved during a tantrum, but I will hold my boundary EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Tantrums get shorter and less frequent the more you allow them to happen & don’t constantly appease your child. My 5 YO almost never tantrums now & I handled her big feelings in exactly the same way as I do with her little sister. She has such great emotional regulation skills, fantastic behavior, and we have an amazing relationship so I know that is what all of this hard work is leading to with my second child & I’m excited to get to the other side 💕 For all things evidence-based parenting & no-tears sleep training, make sure to follow me @kendraworth and head to hhsleep.com or the 🔗 in my bio for my classes! #gentleparenting #consciousparenting #respectfulparenting #positivediscipline #gentleparentingtips #toddlermomlife #babytips #parentingtips #momsofig #momlife #cyclebreaking #attachmentparenting #bigfeelings #raisingkindkids #momhack #parentinghack #toddlerhacks

  1. One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is the solid ability to analyze, weight facts, and draw rational conclusions. In a post truth, post facts, post all sorts of things culture, the arts of logic and rational thought are becoming exceedingly rare...and necessary. We live in a culture that constantly bombards us with messages about what we should think. Our children especially are exposed to everything and its opposite regarding what they should think and believe about themselves, others, in the world. It is far more important to teach our children how to think than teaching them what to think. If our children are equipped with the skills needed to think through facts, social messages, and all of the information that flows past them, the “what” will take care of itself. We can show our kids what it looks like to form opinions and positions based on facts rather than assumptions. We can show them how to relate to others based on factual observation and patterns rather than stereotypes, beliefs, and assumptions. We can teach our kids what it means to ask great questions and dissect things through the Socratic method. We can teach our children logic and rational progression through ideas. We can teach our children to distinguish between facts and stories. We can teach our children how to effectively engage the world and draw their own solid, rational conclusions. . . #raisingboys #raisingdaughters #raisingreaders #margaretmead #raisingstronggirls #raisingsons #dadlife #dadlifeisthebestlife #singledad #singledadlife #yogafamily #christianfamily #familyvalues #valuesmatter #homeschoollife #fatherandson #fatherhood #parentingtips #parentingadvice #divorceddad #bonusdad

  2. If there’s anything I’ve learned in the last 16 years of parenting, it’s that kids don’t feel safe because you shield them from the oppression and injustice of the world.   They feel safe because you stand up against it.  Children are some of the most marginalized people in our society; they are inherently drawn to justice. Raising your baby in an environment of liberation is good for your baby! And while linking liberation struggles to sleep is in some ways it tongue in cheek, in other ways it’s not. Most Western narratives around #infantsleep reflect the demands of colonial capital more than they reflect the needs of infants (or their parents). It’s no coincidence that the field of developmental psychology and “parenting experts” (most of whom were yt men who had no direct experience parenting) flourished contemporaneously with industrial capitalism. Most of the “sleep training” theories that still haunt us today ultimately serve colonial capitalist demands for worker productivity more than anything else, and rely on us internalizing the message, from our earliest moments, that biologically and developmentally appropriate needs for connection don’t matter or must be “trained” out of us. Colonial / industrial capitalism has spent a lot of effort fracturing kin networks into individual consumers, leaving new parents alienated from tradition and support and vulnerable to myths that further its agenda: that we cannot trust our instincts, that we are ultimately alone and only responsible to ourselves, that the solution for most things is consumption. It’s continuing to rely on these message to currently manufacture consent for g3noc*de. Disrupt it. Your baby will thank you. Love, Your Midwife Robina In this time of 🤐s h @ d o w b a n s🤐and 😶c 3 n s o r s h ! p😶 it’s so important that you like, comment, save, and share. If you think this needs to be said - please help it be heard. ❤️🖤🤍💚 #decolonizebirth #parentingispolitical #noneofusarefreeuntilallofusarefree #midwifery #responsiveparenting #attachmentparenting #decolonizeparenting #bedsharing #gentleparenting #connectedparenting #cosleeping #babywearing #babywearingmama #radicalparenting

  3. If you’re looking for a deep dive into this topic, with concrete examples from my own parenting community, you can find it in my newest Substack piece — the link in bio takes you there! As someone who’s done a lot of organizing with children, I get asked “how do you do it?” a lot. At root these questions are testament to the way in which caregiving creates in us a drive to build a world that gives more care. But long work hours, limited childcare, and household responsibilities make finding time for organizing meetings, or even finding the right organizing meetings to go to, let alone participating in direct action that might get you arrested, feel virtually impossible for the average parent. This is where I think it’s important to challenge us to get back to basics about how we are in community in the first place. Learning how to radically be in community is a potent political act in an industrialized, capitalist culture that has eroded collectivism and connection in favor of individualism and isolation, that has siloed us into “nuclear” families who are responsible only to ourselves. It is the kind of work that will get us ready for the world to come, the world we or our children or our children’s children will have to build on the remains of the unsustainable empires that now teeter on the verge of collapse, because in the end it is the only world that can be. You know the phrase, “we keep us safe?” This is the work that allows that to be more than a slogan. Because all the organizing in the world is for naught if at the end of the day we don’t actually know how to care for each other. As kids get older, the possibilities for more “traditional” political mobilization become more accessible. But it’s always easier if you already are rooted in a community who can support you in it. In that way, radically committing yourself to the work of community building comes full circle. Head to the substack to keep reading.
