  1. Here’s the cost breakdown! The chicks we order are straight run Cornish crosses from McMurray hatchery, for 35 chicks we spent $127. This breed is ready to process at 8-10 weeks. For 9 weeks of organic feed it was $460. I ordered my feed from chewy.com. We had 196 lbs of chicken (estimated). Our price came out to $2.99 lb! Organic chicken sells for $4-7/lb at the stores. Not to mention the gallons of broth I’ll make with the bones over the next year.   3. Meatbirds 2024! Blessed and grateful to have a freezer full of homegrown organic chicken. Thankful for their lives for feeding our family lots of nutritious meals & broth this upcoming year. These are Cornish crosses, a cross breed between a plymouth white chicken and a Cornish. They are ready to process at 8-10 weeks. I’ll gather the cost of the chicks & the organic feed and share the cost breakdown soon! ***after calculating all organic feed cost and the cost of the chicks, it came out to be $3.00 per lb. We had 28 birds at 6-9 lbs each (pasture raised organic chicken).*** Detailed videos from processing day are saved under my meatbird highlight!   1. This project broke a few records for me. Pricing was one, it's THE most expensive I have ever purchased and I was really worried about spending that much on a pattern but once I finished it, tried it on and it fitted so well, I decided that the pattern was worth it because the possibility is endless when you can combine whatever color and print you want to your heart's content... And it's not like I spent my money on anything else. Everyone have a vice and I'm ok with mine 😁. I also love that it's a scrap busting pattern. Any project that will allow and encourage me to make use of fabrics that would otherwise go to landfill is a good project in my book. I had a few ideas for this pattern but in the end, I held off on using the good fabrics because this is a new to me company and I'm not sure if their sizing or design standards worked for my shape. But honestly, even though this is made mostly of scrap fabrics, you would not guess it because the colors worked so well together. After I crunched the numbers, it took me 5 days over the course of 2 weeks to complete this dress, with about 2-3 hrs each day. It worked out to be about 15 hours give or take. So not a huge amount compared to my Ziggy leather jacket which was close to 40hrs of labor and over a month period. Anyway, I hope you enjoy watching my story as much as I enjoyed sewing this pattern. I have another idea living in my head with polka dots and a black cage look using this pattern, so hopefully I get a chance in the future to make it up. 🧵 Pattern: #draftersgriddress from @roberts.wood in a size 10-12. Not a single mod to the fit but I did change the free hanging pockets to a waist hanging pocket. Label from @kylieandthemachine 🧵 Fabric: all 3 cotton and linen fabrics came from @spotlightstores . The two solid shades were purchased last year and the fun print was purposed on sale as an end of bolt piece this year.   2. Made this for a particular event but I never end up going so it's now another library, zoo, grocery and catch-up with friends dress. I had just enough fabric for the dress but went and purchased a little extra for a belt. The belt looks fabulous but I still prefer to wear it without it because it's just easier and less fussy. So I think I will save the belt for a special occasion. 🧵 Pattern: I'm sure you are tried of seeing #m7969 but unfortunately it's not the last time you will see it in my feed.   3. I made this dress in October 2024 to wear to #MelbourneFrocktails2024 . It was a very last minute project so I didn't have time to pose on my staircase before the event. I literally only photographed it last week so these photos are recent. 🧵 Pattern: #sabellewovendress from @stylearc made in a straight size 12. It's a very forgiving design. I was bordering on size 14 when I made this dress but since last October I have been working on my fitness and have lost a bit of weight. The dress fits me just as well then as it does now. So Shirring for the win! I removed about 1.5" from the length of the skirt and redraw the pocket so it is attached at the waist instead of hang free from the hip. I think with lighter fabric like rayon that the pocket needs to be supported so it doesn't drag the side seams. I also added facing to the curved hem of the skirt instead of just folding it up and sew it down. I also made my own self fabric covered button. 🧵 fabric: a rayon I purchased from @supercheapfabrics ages ago. I think it must have been a dead stock or something because quantities were limited and it was sold out and never restocked.
