  1. Here’s the second part of the Zegna set I made for myself! I made this shirt as a little good luck charm for my thesis defense, and it once again reminded me how much I love making special garments for special occasions. I have a massive crush on this fabric, it has the most beautiful green - reddish brown shift to it that I’ve never seen before on a linen. I was worried that the shift wouldn’t show up on camera but I think we managed to capture it! I documented the making of this shirt on my stories (which are now saved under the Zegna Shirt highlight) and also did some fabric-detective-work to see how they achieved this stunning colour shift - I would highly recommend checking it out, I still think it’s SO cool! And before you ask - I unfortunately purchased this fabric as a remnant from my local fabric store, so I have no idea where else it would be available :( For the pattern I used my favourite semi-fitted shirt pattern, the #MSClassicShirt from @modern_sewing_co. This is a size 10 (based on my high bust measurement) with the neckline graded down to a size 6. I challenged myself not to use an overlocker once more, so I flat felled side seams and sleeve inseams by machine, and the armscyes by hand. My shoulders can be hard to fit so it’s extra satisfying when something fits this well. The flat felling also gives some extra structure which I absolutely love. Can we make #ShoulderEuphoria a thing? Cause it’s totally a thing! I love pretty much everything I make, but I *LOVE* this shirt. Everything from the seam finishes and fit to the fabric and cut makes this piece feel incredibly luxurious. I added a little homemade tag that says MS (for Master of Science) to the inside yoke to remember why I made this shirt in a decade :’) I’m so excited to wear both the shirt and the trousers for years to come, they have both become instant favourites in my wardrobe.   2. The new collection from @deer_and_doe_patterns is finally out! I had the privilege of testing and reviewing all three patterns before they are released, and I’ve been dying to show them to you all! My blog post with reviews of all the patterns is now live on my website, you can find a link to it in my stories and in my bio. Because I can’t possibly talk about all three patterns in one feed post, I’ll split it in two. This post will go over the Fougère overshirt (#ddFougere) , and the next one (which I’ll likely put up in a couple of days) will go over the Genet pants / shorts and the Hysope crop top. The Fougère shirt comes with two views (a long overshirt and a cropped lightweight jacket) and in two size ranges (EU 34-48 and 46-60) going up to a 147 cm / 57 7/8” bust. I made a straight size 34, which was the closest size to my full bust measurement. Deer and Doe patterns are drafted for a height of 168 cm / 5’6” and I’m 163 cm / 5’4”, but my arms are quite long for my height so I didn’t have to shorten them at all. I also kept the length as it was, because I love having my overshirts on the longer side. For fabric I used this stunning, super lightweight, undyed linen I found at my local fabric store. It’s really fluid and soft, making this the perfect summer overshirt. Because I went with a lighter fabric, I can also comfortably tuck the shirt in, doubling its use in my wardrobe! You all know how much I love classic shirt patterns with fun twists, and this is exactly how I would describe the Fougère. It has all the traditional details you would expect from a button up shirt, plus really cool three-piece sleeves, sleeve vents instead of plackets, and a beautiful curved hemline finished with a facing. I also threw in a couple of touches like double topstitching throughout the shirt, flat felled side seams, and hand finished collar stand and cuffs. I love Deer and Doe instructions, and this pattern was no exception. I learned a new way of sewing the collar stand and I much prefer it to my usual method! Overall, I can wholeheartedly recommend this pattern to anyone who is looking for a new overshirt pattern to try. [ID in comments, alt-text embedded.]

  3. When the lovely folks over at @atelierbrunette offered me to test their new Vichy collection I immediately got a vision of a 40’s-50’s inspired, summery dad shirt! Think a big camp collar with generous lapels, an oversized fit, and fell fitted shoulders with short sleeves that are on the longer side. Tuck it into some high waisted, pleated trousers and *chef’s kiss* To fulfil ✨my vision✨ I decided to mashup two of my favourite patterns: the body and the sleeves of the #MSClassicShirt from @modern_sewing_co (max bust 138 cm/54”) and the collar / center front extension area of the #GilbertTop from @helenscloset (max bust 147.5 cm/58”)! I made a few further modifications like straightening out the side seams, cropping the length, and shortening the sleeves and I had my perfect summer-dad shirt. Now the real fun began when I started working with this fabric. It’s a double gauze cotton with two different scales of gingham on the two sides! I chose to make the lapel facings, the back yoke and the collar out of the smaller scale, and the rest of the shirt out of the larger scale. It was my first time working with a double gauze fabric so I decided to go all out with the construction of this shirt and experiment with a bunch of new-to-me techniques. I documented the entire making process on my stories, which are all saved under the Double Gingham highlight - don’t forget to check it out! I wanted to challenge myself and not use my overlocker for this project - don’t get me wrong, I love my overlocker but I don’t like feeling dependent on it to beautifully finish the insides of my garments. Instead I finished all the seams with hand sewn flat felled seams, and I can’t tell you how proud I am of the insides of this shirt. I have a feeling this will become my preferred method for shirt-making moving on 💛 I included some photos of it worn inside out so you can see why I feel this way :D The buttons are matching ones from @atelierbrunette, it’s their classic matte buttons in the 10 mm size. This was such a fun challenge, and now I have the itch to make more shirts with beautiful insides! [ID in comments, alt-text embedded.]

My shoes are pre-loved designer and sold out on @bohboathens , the corset is thrifted and I made the rest of the dress from leftover scrap fabric I collected at a wedding atelier that I worked at many years ago. I wish I had had more time to devote on making the dress but I'm proud that at least I managed to finish it, even though I ended up looking like a shipwrecked fairy.   2. A few weeks ago, on the 22nd of October I turned 30 and so a new decade of my life begins. As a fresh, green 20-year-old I pictured my thirties as the finish line, the final destination for all of life’s struggles, milestones and achievements, this has clearly not been the case. For better and for worse. 30 for women is seen as our expiration date, the point of no return where your face shrivels up and a magical alarm in your ovaries is set off, forcing you to trap any available man and procreate with them. Although it’s true my ass has seen better days and my energy levels aren’t what they used to be, the truth is, I love being older. Best part about it? Smelling bullshit from kilometers away. Being naive and gullible was the bane of my youth and there’s nothing really quite as empowering as reading peoples intentions. Another favorite part of being older? Having a much clearer understanding of who I am and to get that I had to question everything. I questioned religion, education, having kids, work, what my ethics were, what I ate, what I wore, what I bought, class, relationships, sexuality (the questioning never really ends) and I chose to reject a lot of the cultural and societal boxes that are expected of a woman my age to fit into. If I did anything right in my 20s, it was disregarding normality and allowing myself to grow as offensively and unconventionally as I desired.

Sorry for the flex but I needed to remind myself of everything that was achieved in 2019 because sometimes I end up feeling like all my efforts are futile and that's definitely not the case! So here it goes, this year, in Hamburg I spoke at @conscious_loft about greenwashing and veganism, I took part in the Athens climate march as so many people around the globe are waking up and finally demanding climate justice. A video on my channel reached 3 million views! I talked about veganism and ethical fashion on @instylegreece , I was interviewed by @voguegreece , named as one of the top 5 sustainability influencers by @voguejapan and I wore a thrifted outfit at the @voguegreece opening party FOR ONLY €2, because you can always have fun with fashion, ethically, sustainably and on a budget. Finally, I was also interviewed for @kathimerini and @shapemaggr I'm so grateful to everyone this year that offered me their platforms and allowed me to talk to their audience about ethical living, veganism and sustainable fashion. Thank you, to every single one of you that reached out to me to let me know you've gone vegan, quit fast fashion and radically changed the way you consume. Thank you Patrons, for making everything I did this year so much easier to accomplish. I took some time off this last month to recharge because 2020 is starting off with a bang and I can't wait to be able to tell you more about it. The 20's are here, let's make this the decade of compassion, for all humans, workers, animals and our beautiful planet.

  2. This title is a little cheeky to grab your attention ;) but as someone who wants a large family, it was actually so important to me that I enjoy giving birth. Being pregnant for ten months and then going through the grueling process of labor and delivery is not for the faint of heart. So these are some tips for how I’ve made it manageable. Of course- no one has to have an unmedicated birth to feel empowered or enjoy birth, but I had a conviction towards it. If that’s you too, I hope this is helpful! (I recorded this whole convo and it was 15 min lol soooo maybe a part two coming if you want??) Here are my non negotiables: 1. Learn to be soft and breathe through contractions. I use @christianhypnobirthing app every night and practice 360 diaphragm breathing while I listen! Learning to release the tension from my body and practice this breath work is SO important because when I am in labor, I can use these skills to hopefully remove the tension from contractions. During pregnancy, practice the breathing anytime you feel stressed, frustrated, tense, or even when you experience a braxton hicks! 2. Eliminate fear. Knowledge helps me with this! I wrote down everything I was afraid of and then read about the worst thing that would happen and then how I could work with my medical team to prevent them. I asked my team what they do if “xyz”. For a homebirth, I prepared myself on transfers and red flags to look for! Feeling prepared and knowing what to expect, helped me sooo much in trusting the process. Also loved reading Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth and listening to birth podcasts!

Moving from our 2,800 sq ft home and paying $3,300 a month with utilities to now living in 1,000 sq ft home with no mortgage!!! 🥹 Financial peace is obviously a huge reason to downsize, but I also was spending over an hour a day to keep my house tidy. I felt like I was more stressed with house work than I was enjoying our kids and I hated that about me. Our house had so many rooms that were still unfurnished and we weren’t even using. Just two weeks in our sweet cottage and clean up has never been easier, we have minimized and gotten rid of so many toys, clothes, and kitchen tools we didn’t need, and we have all been already experiencing so much peace with the money we are saving. Just my two cents that we truly don’t need the biggest house on the block and maybe it could even be easier to live so far below our means! x

  2. meet my mid-century modern faux suede Italian dressing table / vanity 😭 did I SCREAM when I saw this on @ebay_uk , yes I did😂 eeekkk let me know what you think in the comments 💌 and if you have any second hand furniture finds that make you happy! this dresser I think might be my best second hand furniture find, it was in such good condition considering it’s age and just is a work of art🥹 I paid £350 for this (plus the courier cost) and I think if I got this from a vintage furniture seller I would have paid over £1k?! I will always say that second hand and vintage furniture is so much better than most of the fast homeware you get these days, and with trend cycles in homeware too, we are just producing way too much unsustainably and I will always say that second hand is the way to go💗 (and it is cheaper!!)

  2. I love my kids deeply, annnnd what I crave on Mother’s Day is to be alone for a chunk of time. Yesterday, B took the kids for 4 hours and I had pancakes at @flourist and made these pants! Perfect day. I was inspired by @sml_hands and her scrap busting pair. 💕 🧵: These are my TNT (actually, everyone’s TNT pattern) #pomonapants in a black and oatmeal washed linen from @blackbirdfabrics. These weren’t scrap busters for me, so I did buy 1.5 m of each color, which means I have enough to do something else with. Matching top?? 🧵: I cut a size 6 and gave myself plenty of extra wiggle room in the waist band. I’m realizing that I constantly cut off 3” at the hem, so I will need to remember that for next time dear diary. 🧵: seeing everyone’s makes this month has given me my sewjo back! Yay!   3. Last day of #memademay2024, and my new favourite pants I’ve sewn. Chartreuse linen, #pomonapants. I was wearing them when I saw the most horrific images I’ve ever seen, coming out of Rafah, and they grounded me through the day. Clothing is medicine. People using their voices is medicine. Feeling the tide turning after 8 long months is medicine. I have been weeping a lot this week. I was going to double down on my stories about my frustration about a lot of the silence I see in the ethical shops that I support, the influencers who I respect— but I think instead I want to say I am so grateful to the ones who have been speaking up. Sooooo… I put this CLAUDETTE dress on and instantly felt fabulous and the hours upon hours of cutting, gathering, stitching, unpicking and restitching 26 metres of tulle (with double layers!!) were all forgiven. Thank you to @violettetannenbaum for her wonderful design and to the team at @taukomagazine for choosing me to be part of the #MakeAndShare crew for issue 10, out now! I made a size 2 (pattern goes up to size 9 which fits approx 64” hip), raised all the ruffle layers by 8cm as I have a long torso so I prefer a high waist over a dropped one and shortened the bottom ruffle to 85cm cos I’m only 5’5”! Also thank you to Charlotte at @newcrafthouse for cutting me 9.5 metres of 300cm extra wide tulle. (As I said in my last post, my first fabric purchase in 363 days! 🤓) I’d say this is my fourth most involved sewing project of my life - for anyone interested here’s the top three: 1. Friend Jade’s wedding dress, 2012 2. Pink satin suit, 2021 3.   2. I made a #TateRomper 🥳 I knew I wanted to make one of these as soon as I saw @smallmuseum_ and @jessilous_closet post about them! This fabric was kindly #gifted by @raystitch 💕 - I did try to choose something that wasn’t a check but just couldn’t NOT get this print when I saw it in person! It’s the Birdsong cotton poplin by Gingiber and was the perfect weight for this project. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I opted for the tie straps, cut a size 2 and used a 1.5cm SA on the bodice but otherwise sewed it as is. Im@not 100% happy with the pattern matching across the zip but couldn’t be bothered to do it again 🤷🏽‍♀️ It’s really comfortable to wear and swish around in! I wore it for dinner on my hotel trip last week then again to @allpointseastuk to watch the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Strokes which was probably not the best idea really because everyone knows jumpsuits and portaloos shouldn’t mix 😅 Managed it though! Ha ha ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When I’d made it and went to write about it, I looked back at the original post and realised I’d basically copied the gingham one @smallmuseum_ made. Oh well, shows how strong the influence was 😂🖤🤍

  3. My railroad denim two piece is complete! (Swipe through to the end for original inspo that’s been hanging around on my Pinterest sewing board for years.) Finished the @fridaypatterncompany #IlfordJacket and am really happy with how it turned out! I made one for my brother in Christmas 2020 and forgot how enjoyable it is to sew. I used the straight sleeve but shortened it by 4cm and they had to be cut in two pieces as I squeezed this whole outfit out of 3 metres of fabric 😅 The pocket is the same as on the overalls. Again, overalls are @todayspattern #TP043 and the fabric for this outfit is 9.5oz railroad denim from @wildorchardsewing (similar heavier denim available at Merchant and Mills). Buttons are deadstock from @newcrafthouse Worn with an old RTW white t-shirt, jewellery mostly from @sweetpea_finejewellery and secondhand #PumaRSX trainers from @ebay_uk

Somethings been cooking for the past 5 months 👀🤰🏻 Getting dressed with my new growing bump was definitely a challenge to begin with, my biggest tip to anyone also going through this would be to buy “normal” clothes in larger sizes, instead of buying maternity clothes. This way I’m still able to find things that suit my personal style and might also work after the baby is born! And of course buy second hand instead of buying new, almost everything worn here is thrifted or vintage to give you an idea! Also no shade to legging lovers lol I just still want to try to dress like myself for as long as possible! Details and thoughts on my @thebargelloedit quilted vest… ✨bought this fabric with no clue what to make however this apricot and black combo spoke to me ✨ pattern is the @newcrafthouse Everyday Waistcoat ✨ I used some cotton linen from my stash and this gorgeous fabric from @thebargelloedit as the 2nd fabric, quilting both layers with some wadding. ✨ following the patterned fabric when quilting I think worked a treat. It gives a lovely effect on the outer fabric ✨ hand sewing the binding and French seaming was worth it, it’s given it a great finish and makes it fully reversible ✨ I wasn’t sure id wear a quilted vest but let me tell you, I’ve lived in it since making it and I will for sure be making another ✨no regrets making it in black… the versatility and styling options are endless. ✨ My fellow bees @miasartyfarty @thebettysilk & @tonyr.maker as well as other accounts I’ve seen later really inspired this make. ✨ head over to @thebargelloedit now… the fabric collection has a limited run and is having a massive sale as we speak.   2. The Reason Your Fuller Bust Doesn’t Fit In Dresses: Have any of these situations happened to you?? The worst is the side seam zipper! I find it so difficult to fit into any dresses in my size (meaning the size that fits my waist and hips) if there is a side zipper. The center back one sadly isn’t much better. Please never blame your body! I did that for years until I realized why this kept happening. 😔 It’s because the clothes are never made with the proportions needed to fit your full bust! A fuller bust needs clothing that’s made on a fuller bust! 💗 When a dress is created & fit on a B-cup, it will never fit your full bust. Especially if it’s a woven (non-stretch) fabric!   3. When The Neckline Is Too Low For Your Fuller Bust 🫣 It’s the WORST when you’re getting dressed! Having to find one particular bra that you have to wear with that neckline on a dress. Or having to wear a tank top under everything, therefore requiring a menagerie of colored tank tops to combat all the too low necklines. But if the dress is fitted, then you may see the bunching of the tank top hem through your dress. So you tuck it into your panties and hope you don’t have to sit or stand up too many times for it to come untucked. 🤫 It’s exhausting! But hopefully the video explains why this happens.
