A perfect winter getaway town If you are looking for a cozy and outdoorsy Northwoods escape, we’ve got the perfect destination for you! Tucked along the shores of Lake Superior, Bayfield WI is one of those rare small towns that truly shines in the winter. With low light pollution, open horizons, and access to some of the darkest skies in the Midwest, it’s become a standout destination for stargazing, northern lights spotting, and winter slow travel. Pair that with cozy lodges, sauna pop-ups, frozen shoreline trails, and seasonal events built around the night sky. Bayfield turns winter into the reason to visit. Here is a breakdown of what you can do/enjoy while visiting Bayfield: 🔥 Superior Sauna @superiorsaunas 🟢 Operates via scheduled pop-ups, book a time slot in advance 🟢 Sessions are

In just one day, I visited four really cool historic sites in Wisconsin: The shot tower at Tower Hill State Park processed raw lead and changed the entire economic development of this part of the state. A rock on the side of highway 136 seems like an unlikely National Historic Landmark, but Van Hise Rock is Quartzite monolith that was studied for important research by Charles Van Hise that would go on to form the entire basis of structural geology. Man Mound is the only effigy mound of its type left in North America, built sometime between the 8th and 13th centuries. In 1905, a road was built through the “legs” and destroyed 50 feet of the mound, but today, it’s a well-cared-for National Historic Landmark. Atzalan State Park: The visuals at this former Mississippian settlement were stunnin

The best part is that my husband’s name is Mitch and my daughter’s name is Emma! 😂 You can watch “A Cherry Pie Christmas”—set and filmed in Door County, Wisconsin—free on Tubi or on Amazon’s Always Christmas channel! During our trip to Door County, which is only about a four-hour drive from Chicago, we stayed at @hillsideofdoorcounty, where so much of the film took place. And we visited @lautenbachsorchardcountry, which was every bit as beautiful in person. (Home of “Parker Orchard” in the movie!) We stopped by @novelbaybooksellers, where “Mitch” and “Emma” (the characters) see each other for the first time since high school... and we spotted the @doorcountytrolley, where they had their first date in adulthood. We took in the views at the Door County Maritime Museum lighthouse, and cozied

You’re not sad… you just need a 90s fall rom-com moment in Wisconsin.✨🍁 It was actually my first time in the Midwest, and there’s something about fall here that feels straight out of a movie. I couldn’t help but be in awe of the golden leaves swirling in the air, the cozy coffee shops giving small-town vibes, and the quiet roads lined with trees that look painted by hand 🪵☕️ Spending a few days around Eau Claire felt like experiencing fall the way you would in Gilmore Girls or You’ve Got Mail. It had that warm, nostalgic energy that makes you want to slow down and fall in love with the season all over again 😌🤎 Exploring Wisconsin felt like stepping into that magic: charming barns, pumpkin patches, vibrant foliage, local restaurants serving all things seasonal… The whole trip was perfec

The Yerkes Observatory in Wisconsin is known as “the birthplace of modern astrophysics,” and recently, the important landmark of science reopened to the public. The main attraction is the Great Refractor, the biggest refractor telescope in the world, which first debuted at the 1893 World’s Fair. The telescope’s 60 foot long tube seems even bigger in person. The Observatory itself was part of the University of Chicago, and some of recent history’s greatest scientists worked or studied here. The observatory was designed by Henry Ives Cobb in a Beaux Arts style, and the entire structure is going through a restoration. That will ensure that this landmark of scientific progress will be around for future generations. For fans of science, I definitely recommend checking it out, located near Genev

Taliesin was Frank Lloyd Wright’s Wisconsin home and studio, located on his uncle’s farm where he grew up. He combined his ideas of organic architecture with the backdrop of the rolling hills, and created one of his greatest designs. However, talking about Taliesin wouldn’t be complete without acknowledging the scandal in its creation, and the tragedy that will be forever associated with the home. Like other Wright homes, there’s an amazing attention to detail, an abundance of natural light, and consideration to every part of the decor. At the time of its design, his relationship with Mamah Borthwick was the subject of a media scandal, mainly because they were both married to other people. A consideration in the property’s design was to provide the couple with a relaxing place to live and
