AD: Few places beat Scotland for pure magic. Winding drives, island hopping, tiny coastal corners and scenery that makes you feel like you're in a storybook. Jo and Zoe are already itching to get back to the Scottish islands and beyond. Fancy your own trip? TripAdvisor has you covered.

Ad | I had the pleasure of exploring the Shetland Islands, a beautiful archipelago located in the far north of Scotland - closer to Norway than to Edinburgh! What makes Shetland so special is its blend of Scottish and Nordic heritage, shaped by centuries of Viking rule and later Scottish influence. I travelled to Shetland with @northlink_ferries , taking the 14 hour overnight crossing of the North Sea. The ferry was surprisingly calm, and waking up to my first view of Lerwick was unforgettable! The islands are steeped in history. Visiting Mousa Broch, the tallest and best-preserved Iron Age broch in Scotland, and Jarlshof, a settlement with over 4,000 years of continuous occupation, were real highlights. But beyond the heritage, I was amazed by Shetlandโs natural beauty - St Ninianโs Beach

ad Glasgow truly surprised me. The cityโs history, architecture, and hidden corners completely captivated me. Glasgow Cathedral left me in awe, its stained glass and crypt breathtaking. Right next door, Provandโs Lordship, the cityโs oldest house, made history feel alive. The Necropolis is hauntingly beautiful, with tombs and views that stretch across the skyline. And the University of Glasgow? Its winding staircases and turrets felt straight out of a Harry Potter scene. Kelvingroveโs architecture and art stunned me, while Riverside Museum brought Glasgowโs transport history to life. The Tenement House is a time capsule of early 20th century city life, and the Under the Tracks tour beneath Central Station revealed eerie, abandoned Victorian platforms I never imagined existed. Born in Scotland, raised in the U.S., ๐๐ง๐๐ซ๐๐ฐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ ๐ข๐ never forgot the little library that opened a world of knowledge to him as a poor factory boy. That spark shaped his belief that education was the key to opportunity. ๐ After building his fortune in steel, he gave most of it awayโnot for luxury, but for libraries. Between 1883 and 1929, Carnegie funded over 3,000 libraries worldwide, including 1,689 in the U.S. His dream? ad Save this for your trip! Glasgow is one city you cannot miss on a trip to Scotland. Itโs packed with incredible history, Victorian architecture, world-class museums, and a creative energy that feels totally unique. Here are my top recommendations for Glasgow: Glasgow Cathedral - Scotlandโs oldest cathedral and one of the few medieval churches to survive the Reformation intact. The stained glass and the crypt dedicated to St. Mungo are stunning. Provandโs Lordship - The oldest surviving house in Glasgow (built in 1471). A small but fascinating window into medieval domestic life. The Necropolis - A Victorian garden cemetery with dramatic monuments, peaceful paths, and some of the best panoramic views over the city. University of Glasgow (@uofglasgow) - One of the worldโs oldest universiti

Think of everything you love about Scotland... castles, beaches, whisky, and history, but without the crowds. Thatโs Moray Speyside. Hereโs how we spent 4 days exploring it: ๐ We settled into @the_dell_at_glenlivet_ , the perfect wee cabin to kick off the trip. ๐ First stop the next morning: @speysidecooperage , watching barrels being made the old way. ๐ A wander through the haunting ruins of Elgin Cathedral (so atmospheric!). ๐ A tour at @johnstonsofelgin , seeing wool transformed from fleece to finished fabric. ๐ Dinner at @bootleggershopeman Bar & Grill, the lobster was fab. ๐ The next morning started with a cold dip at Lossiemouth East Beach (totally worth it!) ๐ Quick warm-up with coffee and a pastry from Ashers Bakery. ๐ No luck this time spotting dolphins at the Scottish Dol
