AD: Few places beat Scotland for pure magic. Winding drives, island hopping, tiny coastal corners and scenery that makes you feel like you're in a storybook. Jo and Zoe are already itching to get back to the Scottish islands and beyond. Fancy your own trip? TripAdvisor has you covered.

Ad - South Scotland’s historic gems How many of these historic sites have you heard of? Three unique places, centuries old, each one offering an incredible glimpse into Scotland’s past and all waiting to be discovered in South Scotland: Jedburgh Abbey – Established in the 1100s by King David I, who intended to prove that Scots could create buildings on a magnificent scale, close to the often-disputed border between England. It’s safe to say he made his point and what remains of the Abbey today is still spectacular. Caerlaverock Castle – A unique 13th-century fortress renowned for its distinctive triangular shape and surrounding water-filled moat. Inside the walls, the remains tell of a grand history - with its great hall, and the remnants of impressive fireplaces all still to be discovered

ad Glasgow truly surprised me. The city’s history, architecture, and hidden corners completely captivated me. Glasgow Cathedral left me in awe, its stained glass and crypt breathtaking. Right next door, Provand’s Lordship, the city’s oldest house, made history feel alive. The Necropolis is hauntingly beautiful, with tombs and views that stretch across the skyline. And the University of Glasgow? Its winding staircases and turrets felt straight out of a Harry Potter scene. Kelvingrove’s architecture and art stunned me, while Riverside Museum brought Glasgow’s transport history to life. The Tenement House is a time capsule of early 20th century city life, and the Under the Tracks tour beneath Central Station revealed eerie, abandoned Victorian platforms I never imagined existed. Glasgow is fu

ad Scotland is absolutely FULL of hidden history, it’s everywhere! And it’s fascinating🤩 Here’s what I discovered in one weekend in Northeast Scotland with the Historic Scotland Explorer Pass!👇 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿One of the UK’s tallest headstones (at over 5m!) tucked behind the ‘Lantern of the North’, Elgin Cathedral. This site is home to the most incredible collection of historical gravestones I’ve ever seen, complete with surviving medieval chapterhouse and the best view for miles😍 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Drama and intrigue in a Georgian country house… Duff House’s construction caused such strife that its owner never slept a night here! Variously used as a hotel, a sanatorium and a German POW camp, it was even bombed during WW2. Today the house holds a stunning collection of art from the National

ad Save this for your trip! Glasgow is one city you cannot miss on a trip to Scotland. It’s packed with incredible history, Victorian architecture, world-class museums, and a creative energy that feels totally unique. Here are my top recommendations for Glasgow: Glasgow Cathedral - Scotland’s oldest cathedral and one of the few medieval churches to survive the Reformation intact. The stained glass and the crypt dedicated to St. Mungo are stunning. Provand’s Lordship - The oldest surviving house in Glasgow (built in 1471). A small but fascinating window into medieval domestic life. The Necropolis - A Victorian garden cemetery with dramatic monuments, peaceful paths, and some of the best panoramic views over the city. University of Glasgow (@uofglasgow) - One of the world’s oldest universiti

ad It’s World Gaelic Week, and even if you don’t speak the language, all you have to do is glance at a map to see how Gaelic surrounds you in Skye. It’s woven into the land through the names of mountains, villages, coastlines and glens. It becomes clear you’re not just looking at a mountain, you’re understanding its shape. When you see Sgùrr, you’re heading towards a sharp, pointed peak. Meall tells you it’s a rounded hill. Coire describes a bowl shaped hollow in the mountain. Sròn hints at a place located on a “nose” of land, while Inbhir suggesting the mouth of a river nearby. It’s fascinating and grounding to learn how the language so vividly describes our surroundings. @sngaidhlig But Gaelic is alive in Skye not only in the landscape, but in homes, in cafés, between neighbours and acro
