Its #nationalparkweek and this past year I was lucky enough to go to safely visit my first National park... actually I got to go to 3!! ⛰🏞🏜 all of them were absolutely stunning but did you realize that with the creation of some of the National Parks, indigenous peoples were kicked out of their home lands? while we can appreciate the preservation of nature in the National Park system we must remember to also advocate for indigenous folx. Indigenous people have suffered from the destruction of the environment around their communities. One thing we can do is by supporting the indigenous peoples that work with the National Parks in advocating for fishing + hunting permits, sacred site reservations, land management rights and more. It is crucial to heed and respect Indigenous wisdom and cultu

earth day is a great day to remember that we need cracial justice to achieve climate justice🗣✊🏽🌎 #earthday #climatejusticeisracialjustice white supremacy and racism are inextricably linked to the ongoing climate crisis. it’s all intersectional. from slavery to imperialism and colonialism, all of it has contributed to the climate crisis. BIPOC communities experience environmental racism — caused by factors, including intentional neglect, the alleged need for a receptacle for pollutants in urban areas and a lack of institutional power and low land values of people of color. this leads to these communities enduring disproportionate impacts of climate change and environmental hazards. #justice — includes climate justice and environmental justice and can only be achieved if we tackle and ove

People ask me where I am from, and I tell them the central part of the Navajo Nation, near a national monument, Canyon De Chelly. It’s more recognizable than saying Chinle, AZ. But this is where I grew up. My family and I would spend weekends in my grandmother’s garden; planting corn and squash or collecting canyon peaches before the deer, squirrels, and horses gathered them first. This canyon is filled with fond childhood memories, yet also some dark truths as well. My ancestors hid and fought in this canyon from the Spanish Conquistadors, and then later the US Army. And I am not the only one with this history, so many people who live near this know the stories of what happened and yet, we continue to live here. This land for us, holds stories, our stories and for many, it is our liveliho

I went forest bathing with my pups in this Grove of Old Trees recently, a part of the homeland of the Southern Pomo & Coast Miwok peoples... The grove is an old-growth redwoods community originally set to be cut down as a part of a timber harvesting plan in the 1990s, but luckily ended up in protective hands which spared them from the irreversible fate. . Still, I couldn't help but imagine what the entire region, now filled with many dry, barren open fields over rolling hills, beat down by the hot summer sun, once looked like with such powerful, tall, and beautiful beings spread out across the entire landscape, generously offering shade and rich habitats for all under and within their canopy. For me, this stark contrast was a call from Earth to protect their remaining Native landscapes fil

It was over three years ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. Perched on the rocks looking down at the milky aqua lake mirroring the snow capped peaks. The wind billowing up from below, lifting my chest and creating a sense I imagine only ever felt before by birds pre-flight. The gentle sounds of the flowing water somehow echoing up from hundreds of feet below. It was both an awe inspiring and heartbreaking moment to feel and hear the voice of our Earth singing gentle love songs, only to realize it was actually weeping. In moments like this it has felt as though the Earth is speaking to me, but I realize that unfortunately in reality the Earth is unable to speak up for itself. It takes passionate (and compassionate) people like yourself to act as the voice of nature and speak
