Now 36, he was, as a younger man, “very boring, very reserved. Quite shy, almost robotic in a way. I was purely focused on driving and nothing else. I didn’t really have much else in life other than racing.” Today? Racing remains his primary passion, but it’s one of a portfolio of pursuits that includes gravel cycling, rally driving, owning an ice hockey team, coffee roasting, gin distilling and philanthropy. He’s not quite Tony Stark: “Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist”. But he’s not far off.
