It’s not often that an ad truly moves me, but this one did. This video highlights the bias and stigma around diabetes that impacts ALL people living with diabetes. “40% of people with diabetes skip treatment out of shame.” We need to change this narrative. End the bias. #AboveTheBias @freestylediabetes #t1d #diabetes #type2diabetes #endthestigma

An immersive dining experience like no other. Global health tech company Abbott are rolling out their Above the Bias initiative to raise awareness about the cultural bias people living with diabetes face. Diabetes doesn’t define a person, but bias can limit opportunities by making them feel uncomfortable when socialising around food and drink. I got to experience this first hand at Le Biastro pop-up restaurant where staff members constantly questioned and made remarks about my choice of food and drink, mirroring the prejudice people living with diabetes experience regularly. How did I feel? Very uncomfortable, sad, and even offended at some stages. It’s time to challenge misconceptions and create a world where people with diabetes are seen for their strength, not their condition. Visit Abo

As people living with diabetes, we are never too far away from it, this video is a perfect example of this. I’m pleased to have been able to support this unique immersive experience alongside my cousin so he had the perspective of what nearly all of us living with diabetes experience. I was aware of what was going on however my cousin who was with me wasn’t. Stats show that 7 in 10 people living with diabetes believe there is a stigma attached to the condition, and a place this is often seen is while socialising around food and drink. To bring this to life, Abbott came together with members of the diabetes community to create an immersive theatre pop-up restaurant, ‘Le Biastro’. With the help of actors, scripts and hidden cameras, genuine reactions were captured to highlight the stigma fac

You won’t believe what this Shoreditch Restaurant Pop up did! Le Biastro was an immersive dinner experience with global health tech company Abbott and one I won’t forget! The night was all about the stigma and bias people living with diabetes face in a social setting and did you know: • 61% of people with diabetes feel judged when socialising around food. • 22% have heard negative comments about their food choices while dining out. • 28% feel self-conscious eating more than others. • 54% would rather order takeout than dine out. 84% believe there needs to be more education about diabetes, especially Type 2. Abbott aims to raise awareness and build empathy. Understanding leads to breaking societal biases, and everyone deserves to live free from stigma. Visit AboveBias.com to find out more.

The strangest but also most interesting dining experience I’ve had… 🤯 AD As someone who’s built their accounts on breaking down stigmas on certain topics - I did genuinely think this initiative was so clever. The Above the Bias campaign launched by the global health tech company, Abbott, is to spread awareness and break down the stigmas that surround people living with diabetes. As someone who knows multiple people who have diabetes, I even found myself being caught out thinking / saying certain things that were, well… not right 🤷🏻♂️ 61% of people in the UK living with diabetes say they struggle with the stigma they feel when socialising around food and drink, and 40% of people have skipped appointments due to shame. 🤯 Defo a great learning curve and something to think about when next
