This is mom Charlotte and dad Elliot’s fifth baby here at DZCA, and this successful birth is another exciting conservation win for the slow-moving species! Charlotte and her adorable new addition are thriving in their Tropical Discovery home and baby is strong, healthy and nursing like a pro. While Elliot moved to Emerald Forest to give Charlotte and baby space to acclimate, Charlotte has access to the public-facing part of her treetop habitat, so you may be able to catch a glimpse of mama and her tiny bundle during your next visit the Zoo! Just in time for #CelebrateColorado, we’ve welcomed two new Rocky Mountain bighorn lambs to West Sheep Mountain! Amber and Violet, both first-time moms, gave birth just days apart earlier this month. As Colorado’s state animal, we’re especially excited to celebrate these special arrivals! 🖤 🖤 Both babies are doing well! Violet’s lamb is thriving on the mountain with the herd, and while Amber’s lamb needed a little extra support from our dedicated Animal Care and Health teams after a challenging start, she’s doing much better now. Thanks to their expert care, she’s now healthy, happy, gaining strength, and will soon rejoin the her herd! Our Critically Endangered Eastern bongo herd is growing! Parents Howard and Fern welcomed a female bongo calf to the world on July 5. This bongo baby is curious, loves exploring and enjoys napping in the shade with her big sister Fig and the rest of the herd. This holiday season we teamed up with our partners, @intermountain to bring joy to young children and families facing health challenges at a Holiday Cheer Event. With special appearances from Raider alumnus, Charles Woodson, Raider Rusher, and the Raiderettes, the event was filled with magical moments. Together, we made spirits bright!

There’s an adorable new addition to our kudu herd! Meet Ru, a female lesser kudu who was born on June 1 to parents Elsa and Machi. Sticking with the naming theme of strong female characters like her mother Elsa (from “Frozen”) and Eleanor (from “The Good Place”), Ru was named after famous drag queen RuPaul since she was born on the first day of Pride. Ru loves exploring her new habitat, relaxing in the shade, and hanging out with her older brother Vinny. Our kudu, gerenuk and crane group recently swapped habitat spaces with our addax brothers and can be found in the habitat next to our llamas.
