Thank you to @hogarthbooks @randomhouse for sending me Fox by Joyce Carol Oates. This is the second book I’ve read of hers. I liked the concept and I somewhat liked the writing. CW: it follows a teacher who has illegal and pedophilic relationships with his young girl students, and it follows him closely. So be warned. That subject matter doesn’t scare me away, but I found this book overly detailed, digging into too many characters, and the voice just for some reason didn’t connect or click for me. The POV shifts didn’t help either, as some of the characters felt like, why do I care, this isn’t adding anything. It felt like… and this sounds silly, but a lot of words? Like too many words? Lol. It took me a really long time to get through. Like a couple of months with some other books in betw

THE WIDOW 📖 book review • out now ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5) thank you @randomhouse @doubledaybooks for my #gifted copy and hat #doubledaypartner an elderly widow turns up to Simon’s law office in need of a new will. his marriage is crumbling, and this widow happens to have been left a small fortune that nobody knows about. simon agrees to keep her wealth under wraps, but after an accident, Simon finds himself facing murder charges. this was actually my first john grisham novel - and I will keep him in mind if I’m ever looking for a legal thriller to read. the mystery of the book wasn’t overly exciting, but it did keep my interest. it was also quite long so that made it feel a bit drawn out at times. pick this one up if you’re in the mood for a book about lawyers behaving badly and small town secrets.
