The officer then reached into a pouch, pulled out a patch, and exchanged it with the fan. Curious, I chatted with the officer for a few minutes afterward. He explained that he carries an extra badge on every shift for occasions like this. Apparently, police officers from around the world often do the same. When they meet an officer from another country during their travels, they may offer to exchange badges as a keepsake. The officer told me not everyone participates, but many do.   1. The Sony 16-35mm was the very first lens I bought when I started my journey as a landscape photographer, and it has remained one of my all-time favorite lenses ever since! I chose this lens over the 14-24 mainly because I wanted a more practical setup for using filters, but also because reaching 35mm gives me much more flexibility. It allows me to capture portraits or tighter compositions without constantly switching lenses while out in the field. If you’re into landscape photography, I highly recommend having a lens in this focal range in your kit. Tamron also offers a 16-30mm f/2.8 for less than half the price!   1. 🥟 Ottawa’s FIRST Xiao Long Bao restaurant is now opening in the Byward market. First of its kind and the grand opening is happening on Feb 10 on lunar new year day. 🥢 Xiao Long Bao are soup filled dumplings with a thin wrapper and it’s typically steamed. Dip it in vinegar and chilli oil and it’s a pair made in heaven. We tried a lot of the soup dumplings and our favourites were the pork and coriander, truffle and pork, shrimp and pork were all our top faves. For the pan fried dumpling we really enjoyed the curry beef! 🧧We are so excited to finally have this in Ottawa and we cannot wait for you experience this.   2. More soup dumplings, MORE LIFE! But seriously I couldn’t be happier to see more soup dumpling spots pop up around Ottawa. How blessed are we!? The shengjian bao, pan-fried soup dumplings here are toasted to perfection and filled with flavourful meat and soup. And yes! You can watch them being made through a small window here too. For me though my biggest excitement was finding this Shanghainese style wonton soup with a super light and clean broth with the addition of the dark roasted seaweed. This is something I haven’t been able to find anywhere else in town. The wontons are buttery soft and melt in your mouth too. I’ll definitely be going back here many times this winter. They have a lot of other unique noodle dishes on their menu and I encourage you to get adventurous and try something new! Go check out Bite&Bite Shanghai Fried Buns at 📍 1465 Merivale Rd.   3. Ottawa’s newest Italian pastry shop and café We loved our experience at Dolci Sapori and will definitely be going back. All the desserts we tried were such great quality. Our top three were the pesche, the lobster tail and the pistachio cream filled croissant. This bakery makes everything in house, down to the pistachio cream! It’s actually a full café with affordable coffee and paninis for under $10 as well. They’ve been open for less than 3 weeks and they were bumpin’ on Sunday! Go check them out, you won’t regret it.
