And now, there’s more. I found another name—Zhongshan Zuoyo—on a piece of paper in one of her videos. That supplier is also listed on Alibaba(cc: Whitney Rose’s Prism brand lmfao) This video isn’t to encourage dropshipping from Alibaba. It’s to get you thinking about what you’re really buying from brands like Parke’s. It may not be quality, sustainability, or ethics. It’s the illusion of fitting in, or getting closer to the lifestyle she promotes. But the truth is, you’re not getting closer, you’re just funding it. Because in the case of Syrn, they are not being made in some cute little feminist atelier in LA. I connected Syrn to Brandix, Sri Lanka’s largest garment manufacturer, which, once you dig past the press releases, has a long and complicated history when it comes to the treatment of garment workers — the vast majority of whom are, you guessed it, women!!!!!   2. 🎉🔔DONE with 16 rounds of chemo and finally got to ring that bell! (Swipe for full video)🎉🔔 I cannot even express the relief and emotions I’m feeing about being done, especially since my last round was delayed TWICE due to various ailments making the past 2 weeks really tough for me mentally. I can’t fully celebrate just yet since I still need to weather the inevitable side effects for the next week or so. But I know I’ll be feeling lighter and more optimistic now that I have completed this huge milestone. The follow-up imaging (mammogram and MRI) from last week showed significant positive changes and I can’t wait to discuss the results with my surgeon on Friday. Speaking of my surgeon, surgery is scheduled for mid-March so I have a few weeks to recoup and then on to the next challenge of recovering from my mastectomy. Thank you again for the outpouring of your support and kindness on this journey! All of your messages, words of encouragement and care packages have meant the world to me!   3. One year ago today, I heard the dreaded words “you have breast cancer” and my life changed forever. I was 42. I had just started working again after a 5 year break My daughter was starting Kindergarten and I was excited to prioritize some stuff for me. Instead, my life has been a whirlwind of endless doctor’s appointments, chemo, immunotherapy, surgery, side effects and ups and downs. This is not how my life was supposed to go! I’ve tried hard to lean into positivity and gratitude this past year. I have SO much to be thankful for in my life and I constantly remind myself of those things. But there are also some days when my life just SUCKS and I get pretty despondent. Sometimes I obsess over having a recurrence (especially since I tested as being very high risk for that) and what that would mean for my longevity. 100% a roller coaster existence! I’m happy to report that my first Signatera blood test (which maps the DNA from your tumor and then looks for fragments of that DNA in your blood) came back NEGATIVE. Woohoo! Receiving that test result was the happiest I’ve been in the past year and it has helped to quell some of my negative thoughts. A couple of things I’ve learned along the way that I want to pass along: 1️⃣ DO THOSE SELF CHECKS! I’d had my routine mammogram 9 months prior to finding the lump and it didn’t show anything. I never did routine self checks. IDK what possessed me to feel around that morning in the shower, but I am SO glad I did. I will forever be a fan girl of self checks and hope I can inspire you to do regular ones!! 2️⃣ DENSE BOOBS - If you’re told you have dense breasts after your first mammogram, talk to your doctor about whether a follow-up ultrasound or MRI (both of which can sometimes be better at detecting cancer when you’re dense) makes sense for you. I wish I had been offered extra imaging at my last annual mammogram before my diagnosis. I also wish I had been proactive and requested the imaging myself, but when you’re told the mammogram looks fine, you think “Cool Cool. I’ve checked the box for the year” and go on with your life. If you ever have any questions about BC, please reach out. I’m here for you!

  2. Did you know most wrapping paper isn’t recyclable? If wrapping paper has glitter or is metallic/ shiny, that means it is laminated and not recyclable! You should use up what you have (rather than throwing it away before being used), and then try out a more sustainable wrapping method! Furoshiki wrapping cloths are a traditional Japanese method of wrapping items and packages! You can use fabric scraps, scarves from a thrift store, dish towels, or any fabric you have access to! No time for outfit photos today, because work/life is too hectic at the moment 🤷‍♀️ . . I wanted to talk about this unattainable work/life balance we are always told to figure out. Can we please just stop doing ourselves the disservice of believing that this balance exists? I'm tired of searching for a way that I can somehow "balance" being the best mother, best wife, best employee, best friend and daughter all at once. It's just not going to happen and I'm ok with it. I'm ok with prioritizing work over my family on some days and then prioritizing family over work on other days. I'm ok with being just ok or mediocre at something for a while. I'm not perfect. I get tired. I can be selfish sometimes. And from now on, when I hear somebody talking about work/life balance, I'm going to point out that it's really a pretty major imbalance and that I'm just going to embrace that instead of setting impossible expectations for myself. . .   2. • I'm really struggling, friends... • . It's been challenging to "balance" things in my life, which is probably evident based on my spotty presence on IG lately 🤔 . There are things that I *need* to do and things that I'm *expected* to do. And everything else, including self-care and any fostering of my creativity, has taken a pretty major step back. . But that's ok. I'm not perfect and nobody else is either! 🙌 . I never wanted this IG space to be a reflection of a "perfect life", so I thought it was important for me to share my thoughts with you here. . If you are struggling, let's struggle together.   3. • gaining control over your shopping habits • . Hi friends! 👋 . . Today, I wanted to share with you what helps me gain control over my shopping habits & what triggers my desperate urges to *need* to shop. Also, I wanted to share with you my plan to quit buying stuff for myself for the rest of 2019. That's only 4.5 months... I can do it, right? Please tell me that I can 🤣 . . I'll start by saying that I don't think "no buy" challenges work for everyone. I've tried these challenges in the past and have failed... but I feel like my life is in a better place now - there is less uncertainty around my schedule & I have developed a decent routine for self care and hobbies (I think that's initially KEY - having other fun things to occupy yourself with, so you can overcome those initial urges to shop). . . So I'm going to do it! What started off as a #nobuyaugust with encouragement from @addielee_hatfield has blossomed into a #nobuy2019, with an extra push from @paularovingstyle 😉 . . Here's my strategy to curb my shopping cravings: . ▪ unsubscribe from EVERYTHING 🤣 . ▪ no online browsing and if I start to think about it - get off the phone and do something else! . ▪ mute people on IG who seem to trigger my shopping habits. . ▪ get a clear understanding of WHY I'm doing this: to save money? To stop feeling guilty about consuming? To further minimize my closet? . ▪ shop my own closet when I'm feeling the itch to shop. . ▪ occasionally remind myself that I simply don't NEED any more stuff. I really don't. . . My biggest trigger to shop more is a stress. If my daughter cries for most of the morning or my son is sick or I have a fight with my hubby... Those things TRIGGER me. I get emotional & vulnerable & feel the need to repair those raw emotions with a purchase. So, instead, I'm going to practice breathing through those tough moments & talking myself through them. . . That's my plan! What do you think? I'm likely going to need your help to hold me accountable, btw! 🤣 . . P.S. today is day 9 of the #colormycloset challenge: WILDCARD day... I'm celebrating it by wearing nothing wild or exciting 🤣 but my plan not to shop until the end of the year is pretty wild, right?
