  2. I promise I haven’t just been crocheting Valentine’s bonnets! I’m actively working on the pattern for the Lucky Duck hat but I’m such a perfectionist that I have to test every size myself before sending it off into the world (even for testing). Luckily Frankie has gone through 3 sizes so far so at least I have a fit model for each one (ugh what is wrong with me?). WELP this post has a ton of text but hopefully you all can find this info useful! 💗 It’s not a perfect system, but I think it’s a huge improvement from a single fit that’s actually graded on a women’s size chart only! (Or what some folks do *I believe*, say a design is “unisex” by using a men’s sizing chart instead!) There’s a lot of complexities surrounding this, but this is the method I’ve found best so far to make my designs more inclusive.   2. There is nothing like a @sewliberated pattern release to kick off MeMadeMay2026! I know you’re all surprised. Me, barrel legs? Fun topstitching?? How original! But my love for the new Madrone pants runs deep y’all. I truly love these pants, so much that I couldn’t be bothered to take them off long enough to iron them before showing off to you 🫠 I made my true size 6 during testing, and made no adjustments, although I *think* there was a bit of fine tuning done to the rise and inseam lengths after testing. Mine are more of a 25” inseam, because I’m short. I choose a light weight cotton twill that has since been discontinued, RIP to Bob Kaufman twills 💀 They were a joy to sew. So much fun with all the curved seams and panels. I really wish I could show you the inside, but alas I’m wearing them and can’t take my pants off at work. So, for today, Day 1 of MeMadeMay I’m showing off my Madrone Pants, sewn earlier this year during testing, with my Lily Sheer top by @irenelin.knit knit last year. With my favorite shiny shoes, obviously 💁🏼‍♀️ I would be lying if I didn’t mention that I have mixed feelings about Insta these days. With the rise of internet robots trying to steal our joy and the demise of the hashtag I’ve been wondering how MeMadeMay will even work this year. However, this will be my 700th year participating and I’m just not quite ready to let it go yet. It really is the best time of year to be a maker on the internet. My goals are to great dressed in my memades, have fun and be positive about it. So, as always, with apologies to anyone who is still here that isn’t into making/wearing your own clothing, I’ll see you on the other side.

  3. Hi! It’s me! I took an unexpectedly long break from gird posting (unfortunately not from scrolling 🙃) and I have a surprising amount of new faces! Hi! I’m Jessamy, and I’ve been winning at thread chicken for about 10 years. 🧵🐥🏆 I really like to sew, and knit and I’m learning to spin. I basicially really like to make stuff with all the fibers. That’s why I’m here! I don’t consider myself a content creator or an influencer, I’m a maker. And I mainly make things for myself. Truthfully, I can be a bit chaotic in my makes sometimes. I’m not the best wardrobe planner, and am not a minimalist or capsule wardrobe person. I sometimes think I’d like to be, but I am easily distracted🙃 I like neutrals, I like brights (obvi) and I love gingham. So, if you’re here for all that, welcome! Say hi! {I’m also a long caption writer, and I know most people don’t read it, but I can’t help myself} So, it’s still hot, and summers not *actually* over, so I decided to fire up my machine and sew a #tateromper I haven’t sewn anything for myself in over a month and this was the perfect weekend project. Happy, fun, oh so comfy with just the slightest bit of clown vibes? I’m in 🤡 Sewing Deets: Tate Romper by @smallmuseum_ & @jessilous_closet I sewed the 4 for my 33ish” bust. I made a few slight mods; took 3” off the straps and sewed them slightly wider plus added some interfacing to them. I also took 1.5” out of the bodice and 1.5” off the legs. My guess is that I need to make a little tee to wear under, because I can see I’ll need to wear this all through fall. (Link in my profile. 👆) 🌿🌿🌿 Featuring an abstracted Ginkgo-leaf motif, rendered in crisp lace eyelets, Ginkgophyte is a breezy lace t-shirt with an easy, slightly cropped silhouette, dropped shoulder, and rolled cuffs at the short sleeves.   1. 🌼 #todaysknitoutfit featuring the #anoukatank 🌼 Summer’s in full swing, and I couldn’t ask for more sophisticated knitted vibes. Anouka was my first #intarsia knitted piece ever and it was quite the ride! I admit I was overwhelmed when I first looked at all the color work charts. I also had no idea how to neatly divide out the yarns for each chart, but after a few reads through the written pattern, everything started to click. And after I found the perfect, ever-so-convenient no-tangle thread bobbins to organize all my separate yarns into (swipe to see them!), it was smooth sailing from there! I had these colorways in Loft sitting in my stash since the COVID quarantine, so I was happy to use this #testknit as a stash-busting project. I began with a center panel that featured the light yellow and gray color ways, but after knitting a few inches of the color work, I realized this was all wrong, and decided to make the hayloft yellow and red color ways the centerpiece.   2. My latest #workinprogress — #stagheadpullover no. 2 🦌💐 I am so excited to finally share my current WIP with you all! I previously made my first Stag Head Pullover back in 2019 but found that I never wore it because I made it with white yarn and was afraid of getting it dirty, and I made it a bit long for my taste. I ended up giving it to my aunt who lives in Seoul, Korea a couple of years ago because I genuinely wanted it to be worn and loved (Swipe ➡️ to see photos of Stag Head no. 1). However, whenever I thought back to this sweater, I missed it so much and felt sad that I gave it away—it’s such a special design! So I decided it was finally time to make my second Stag Head. This time around, I made some major changes after my first experience. I decided to omit the waist shaping and make it a little shorter so that it wouldn’t be as warm and feel so bulky when worn with all of my pants. I knew I would lose momentum if I knit the front and back pieces separately, so I modified the pattern to be knit in the round. I also decided to use @brooklyntweed ‘s Shelter yarn as I know this yarn provides incredible structure to cables. I initially was going to go with a darker foresty green (Yellowstone) I had in my stash, but ultimately pivoted to the golden Hayloft so as to accentuate the cables more. Now all that’s left to knit are the sleeves! I am so, so happy to revisit @norahgn ‘s extraordinary design. Though it is an immense labor of love, it is absolutely worth all of the effort.   1. ✨ How to Install the Neatest Zipper in Your Knitwear ✨ This method keeps the zipper completely hidden between two facings, and looks flawless on both the right and wrong side. Follow these steps for a sleek finish: Step 1: Pick up and knit stitches along the front edges using two needles. By wrapping the yarn around the back needle before knitting through the picked up stitch, you’ll create a smooth and neat start for both facings. Step 2: Knit the two facings separately back and forth in stockinette stitch. Step 3: Once your facings are done, carefully sandwich the zipper in between them. Use Kitchener stitch to close the facings, making sure to pierce through the zipper lining as you go from one needle to the other. Step 4: do the same for the other front of your garment. Tip 1: I used sewing thread for the kitchener stitch, as my yarn was too thick and fluffy to go through the zipper lining. If you use a smoother yarn, feel free to use your yarn for this step. Tip 2: I marked every centimeter on my zipper and did the math to figure out how many stitches went into one centimeter.   2. ✨ Introducing my finished Jean set, a test knit for the incredibly talented @kolibri.by_johanna ✨ The Jean set features a summery skirt with an A-line shape, high waist, and a fitted top with wide straps. Both pieces are worked in a gorgeous, eye-catching wave-lace pattern. The set is knit in @majogarn ’s Sunny Linen in the colour truffle (a unique blend of Linen, Baby Alpaca, Cotton and Fine Merino Wool). Not only is the yarn a joy to work with, but it becomes even softer after blocking. It feels so luxurious on the skin, and the drape is perfect for the summer vibes I was hoping for! Confession: I’m not usually a fan of knitting all-over lace patterns 🤫 but I absolutely love this one. The lace pattern is incredibly intuitive and easy to remember, making the process so much more enjoyable than I expected. Pro Tip: you can knit the skirt entirely in knit stitch by knitting the garter purl rows inside out using the GSR turn. No purling 😉!!! Johanna has a helpful video for this. I’m already dreaming of another set in a lighter shade! My custom terracotta Sweater - pattern by @leneholmesamsoe ✨ This project evolved as I went along — what started as a long-sleeve casual sweater turned into this sleek, short-sleeve style after a few fittings. After failing to finish making an outfit for a wedding last fall, I was so relieved I could debut THIS dress on time for another wedding! 👗 It’s got wonderful movement and yet I simultaneously feel like a painting. While I originally planned to make a bustier dress, the fitting process got the best of me, so I had to abandon that idea in order to finish ANYthing in time. I instead turned to my trusty McCall’s hacked #M8195M8211combo that I’ve now made 4 times! (I haven’t posted the 3rd yet; it’s coming eventually.) The combination is #M8211 View A’s sleeves / back bodice and #M8195’s skirt / bodice (but shirred). I gathered and lengthened the circle skirt to 24”, and added a contrast tier in a different print from the same fabric collection. I slashed & spread the bodice’s “cups” to be more suitable for my chest shape…I think McCall’s drafts for B cup (I’m G), so my edits gave me a better gathered look, and the bottom cup seam doesn’t ride up. This dreamy fabric is from the “Painterly Petals” collection from Robert Kaufman, which I bought 2 years ago for a patchwork dress that I ended up never starting. Oops! Earlier this year I spotted the brand Batsheva using prints from this same fabric collection (under the name “Monet”), and those visuals brought my floral green dream back into focus! Luckily I already had it stashed and could cut into it when inspiration finally hit! And I convinced my dude Brian to sew his tie (last photo) using another print from the same collection, also from my stash. Just a hint of matching 🌸🌿 I was not prepared for how long it would take to sew ruffles onto a midi circle skirt, but then I measured the circle hem and it was around 23 ft (7m!), so the time-suck made more sense.   2. Designing the #CruxCardigan posed a question I wanted to solve: how can I make a knitted piece embroidered without actually embroidering anything? How can I pay homage to various fiber arts, but combine it with the medium I love: knitting? The Crux stitching references many types of handicrafts: embroidery, hand quilting, weaving, and cross stitch were all inspirations, but this technique is most similar to weaving since the contrast yarn is actually worked *as* you knit, and not after. (Though directions are written both ways, if you prefer a calmer knitting experience). Did you notice that the cuffs of this cardigan are pleated? I also took inspiration from garment sewing, as this shape was inspired by no-waste cropped jackets, and I wondered how the sleeve would be cinched if it were made of woven fabric. Then pleats sprang into the brain, edged in thick marled i-cord to mimic bias binding. I’ve been looking forward to today for months, when my 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘵 knitwear designs could finally be revealed ✨ This is the #LisseJacket pattern from the upcoming issue 36 of @pompommag, and it’s a double knitted modular hooded jacket, inspired by quilt coats! Because it’s double knitted, both the colorful and textured sides are formed at the same time, while the modularity gives it visible “quilted” lines! It’s reversible too ☺️ An interlude: When I saw the behind-the-scenes photos from this photoshoot, I was totally floored. I got teary. Coelina, the model, has a radiance that gave so much life to this design, and I’m so thankful for Pom Pom’s vision to pull this all together. Anyway, more pattern details! Lisse comes in 2 lengths, long (shown here) and cropped, as well as a folded collar option if you don’t want to make a full hood. It uses an alpaca boucle yarn to give it that fuzzy quilt batting texture on the inside, while the outside is adorned with direction-changing stripes in DK weight yarn! I encourage you to dig through your yarn stash, if you have one, and pull out all sorts of colorful scraps to pair together from past projects, similar to how many quilters save and use allllll the extra fabric bits. For my sample, I dyed lots of similar shades to play with my low-contrast-but-neon look that I love. The jacket is edged in a thick icord that mimics quilt binding, and has 2 sets of icord ties to close up the front, also inspired by quilt jacket ties! I will be having yarn preorders in a few weeks, and you can buy as little (50g half skeins) or as much as you want of any color. I don’t want anyone to feel pressured to ever buy a kit for a pattern when there’s usually great stuff to be had at home!
