If you’re a white woman who’s been sharing about Lindsay Clancy, please share about Tiffany Woods, too 💕 As we wait for the Lindsay Clancy verdict, I also want to advocate and speak up for Black mothers, too. Tiffany Woods gave birth 2 weeks before hurricane Katrina devastated her hometown in New Orleans, and she was displaced with her husband, and their four children. She did not have access to basic needs or access to the WIC program that helps underleveraged mothers. Her son, Emmanuel, was having an adverse reaction to his formula and she didn’t know what to do. In a time of distress and postpartum confusion she decided to mix Emmanuel’s formula with cows, milk and water, and he unfortunately passed away. She just wanted to FEED her baby and now she’s spending her life in prison. Tiffany has been serving a 36 year prison sentence and was recently up for parole a few weeks ago and it was denied because one white woman, Leone Fitzgerald, the Director of the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office felt she needed to stay in prison. Being a white ally in America means knowing your skin color gives you advantages but you’re human enough to realize it shouldn’t be that way. Sending love to Tiffany’s family and shame to Leone’s.

It split Memphis (a city central to the Civil Rights Movement) into 3 republican-leaning districts. Basically silencing the Black vote in Tennessee. This came days after the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, so don’t tell me that racism isn’t alive and well here in America. Fuck this, man.

  2. 🪐5 discoveries in astrophysics I’ll be following in 2026 🔭 So many things have happened over the past few years in astrophysics, and 2026 could be the year we discover some incredible things. I’ve decided to compile a little list of discoveries I’m very excited to follow at the frontier of our space knowledge! 1) One of the most exciting fields at the moment is cosmology, with DESI data hinting that our past assumption on dark energy being constant might not be the entire picture. With other independent probes and bigger samples in 2026 we might be able to know for sure! 2) Vera Rubin Observatory full speed ahead. With its monitoring of the entire southern sky every 3 days, we can expect the discovery of so many transients and up to 100 more interstellar objects! And much more about galaxies and cosmology. 3) Exoplanet atmospheres. We have gone from “are there other planets out there?” To “what are their atmospheres made up of?” Imagine the feat to find this when finding them is already so difficult, it is truly remarkable and we are even closer to find if there is another life-like planet out there. 4) I may be biased about this, but I am so excited for the Euclid data release, which will be used to consolidate DESI and map billions of galaxies to an unprecedented scale. 5) Gravitational wave astronomy is the newest form of multimessenger astronomy, pushing the frontiers of detectors, technology and cosmology. I remember the day, in February, when mRNA-1273 arrived to our lab at NIAID Vaccine Research Center, and mice awaited in the basement for their injections. At the time, we just had our sights on a phase 1 clinical trial by 100 days, with no idea the virus would spread into a pandemic. 66 days passed from the viral sequence release, and the first human was injected with the vaccine in a phase 1 trial. 9 months later, today, after 76,000,000 COVID cases globally... people in the US will receive the vaccine under emergency use authorization. Lives are about to be saved. Hospitals will become less overwhelmed. Normal times will slowly begin again.   2. Yesterday, in his sleep, my dad completed his journey to the next adventure. Larry “Pete” Ward was a person filled with wonder at and love for animals, building stuff, nature, mechanics, donuts, and his “Italian Beauty,” my mom. He was so supportive of his kids that for my college graduation gift, he gave me a 40-lb boulder carved with the words “Follow your dreams, littlest one.” Every morning, he sent a text telling us he was having his coffee and to send pictures of vicariousness for him to enjoy. Jarrett and I got married a year ago tomorrow, and this first picture is my dad the minute I came out to get walked down the aisle. It’s one of my favorites. He was diagnosed with #multiplemyeloma in 2013 and given about a two year prognosis. At the time he told my mom he wished he had ten more years. He got 9 1/2, and the last few months I feel so fortunate to have been under one roof with my family, with @jarrett_sleeper’s immense help and with my sisters @janelle.york & @cars_of_danville to soak up the time and tell my dad how much we love him. Pomegranates have a soft spot in our hearts and for Father’s Day we gave him a tree we’ll plant and water. Light a candle to send him on his way, or maybe take a #CritterPicForGrandpod. He wanted us to go out and enjoy the world, and in that spirit I hope you follow your dreams and have some adventures. 💖 I love you, Dad.
