  1. more information and details 👇✨ When I was trying to figure out the best way to get from SLC to Reno, @quingable recommended I take the train! I honestly forget this exists half the time because the few times I do look, it’s usually $$. This time around, the price of a private room with a lay flat bed was going to be cheaper than flying and the timing lined up way better! Plus since it’s overnight, it doubled as my accommodation + transportation. This is an Amtrak train and I booked my ticket on their website. The price of my room was $219 and that included my bags and breakfast. I brought a 30L backpack and my snowboard bag. Even though the room I had was able to fit two people, you would definitely be squished. There are larger rooms available as well for more $$. Overall, I found it to be worth it! It was a fun experience, I didn’t have to drive, and I didn’t have to worry about flying with my board bag. I did end up booking Coach for the return train from CA > Utah and documented that experience as well :) I have take coach before from NE to Chicago years ago as well! #solofemaletraveler #amtrack #lifeontheroad #sleepertrain

Note: you are not allowed to take photos, I was given special permission, please respect these rules! Things I saw in Mary Queen of Scots bedchambers that left me heartbroken This needlework done by Mary whilst she was in captivity. Some believe this one represents her relationship with Elizabeth I, Mary as the mouse under Elizabeth as the ginger cat’s paw A box reputed to contain a lock of Mary’s hair. Seeing hair always triggers a bit of an existential crisis for me. I struggle to comprehend that I am looking at something once part of a historical figure I’ve read about The supper room that Mary dinned in with her close friend David Rizzio on the 9th March 1566. It was here that Rizzio was dragged from behind Mary’s skirts by her husband Darnley and his co-conspirators and murd*red. Accounts say Mary tried to protect him, and only stood aside once her pregnant belly was threatened The spot were David Rizzio was allegedly left after he was st*bbed over 50 times by Darnley and his accomplices. It is also said that his body was stripped and thrown down the stairs The original private staircase to Mary’s bedchamber, hidden out of sight. Many wrongly assume the tight winding staircase you now walk is the same Rizzio’s conspirators stormed up on that night - how I wish I could have walked those original steps! This painting of Mary shown in ’en deuil blanc’, her white mourning dress after she lost her father in law Henri II of France, her French mother Mary of Guise and her husband François II in a short span of time This painting showing a 17 year old Lord Darnley Henry Stewart. As the man who was part of the horrible demise of David Rizzio, it was odd seeing him pictured as a young innocent, scrawny youth The Darnley Jewel, likely made for Lady Margaret Douglas the mother of Lord Darnley (Mary’s 2nd husband). In 2007 conservators discovered another figure in this 1767 painting that had been obscured by dirt and age. It showed a young black boy who had been enslaved by John Glassford and trafficked to Scotland. But so little about him is known - his story is lost to history What is so poignant is at first glance this is a fairly innocent family portrait, showing what appears to be a happy family with many healthy children, but within it hides another child stolen away from his own family. “In the 1700s many enslaved people were trafficked to Scotland to work as domestic servants. Here the view extends across the whole Island of Capri, the Bay of Naples, the Amalfi Coast, and even the distant mountains of Calabria. 🚡The easiest way to get to Capri’s highest point, on the summit of Monte Solaro, is to ride the chairlift. The trip takes about 12 minutes and at the time of this post costs about $15 per person and cannot be pre-booked. Most of the scenes from DDLJ were shot around Gstaad and Saanen in Switzerland, and the easiest way to visit all these spots is by doing a day trip from Interlaken. . Start your journey from Interlaken Ost and take the GoldenPass Panoramic Express to Gstaad. Honestly, this train ride itself is an experience because it’s one of the most scenic routes in Switzerland. . Once you reach Gstaad, walk around the famous Gstaad Promenade where Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main was shot. And while you’re there, definitely stop by Early Beck Bakery . From Gstaad, take a bus to Saanen Station. For any DDLJ fan, this whole town feels so nostalgic. . You’ll see the Saanen Station, and right across the road is the famous DDLJ bridge, with the Saanen airstrip right next to it. The church from the movie is also just a 5-minute walk from the station. . After exploring, take the bus back to Gstaad, and from there another bus to Enge, where the song Ho Gaya Hai Tujhko Toh Pyaar Sajna was shot. Trust me, this spot is absolutely beautiful. . Then head back to Gstaad and take the GoldenPass train to Zweisimmen - the place where Raj and Simran miss their train in the movie. . Once you’re back in Interlaken, don’t miss Höhematte Park, where the famous flower scene was filmed. . And of course, when you visit Jungfraujoch, that’s where many of the snow scenes from the movie were shot. .   2. Reality >>>>> Videos 🤯 This is Heaven’s Gate at the Tianmen mountains in China’s Hunan Province. And the light show right after sunset is a Magical MARVEL that videos do zero justice to! Gosh, we just stood there for 30 minutes as it got progressively colder, wondering if part of our shivering was just because of the spectacular light show in front of us. It’s larger than life, and there weren’t all that many people either. Just bonkers! We walked down 999 steps from the top to make it down in time for the first lights. Surreal!
