This is a great hike to do if you’re visiting Washington or the Portland area as it’s in the Columbia River Gorge! Made up of many switchbacks up an ancient volcano, this hike gives your panoramic views of the Gorge below. The paths and switchbacks were made and put into place by a man in 1915, and it is now a state park in Washington 🌲🌊 📍Beacon Rock, near Stevenson, WA 🥾1.5 miles round trip, rated moderate (I’d say on the easy side of moderate) 🚙3.5 hours from Seattle, just under an hour from Portland 🐶Dogs on leash (you will be crossing over some old wooden bridges- they’re safe, but one of our dogs was not a fan at all, and we kept having to carry her over these 😬) 🎟️A Discover Pass is required to park here. If you don’t have the annual pass, there’s a kiosk to purchase a day pass that’s $10 for the day ⚠️This may not be the hike for you if you’re nervous with heights 🌅a great sunset spot on a clear day Would you climb 52 switchbacks for these views? 😍🥾 Share with someone you’d do this with 💚

This is the PERFECT beginner friendly backpacking trip, highly highly recommend. 📍 Second Beach, Olympic NP Here’s everything you need to know: • 🥾 Mileage: ~4 miles round trip, you can camp wherever on the beach but BE AWARE of tides! Highly recommend pitching your tent as far away from the ocean as possible. • ⛰️ Elevation: ~250 ft gain — short + sweet! The elevation is on the way out. • ⛺ Permits: Required! Grab yours on recreation.gov, they’re usually pretty easy to get ahead of time. It’s the ‘Olympic National Park Wilderness Permit’ with a starting point of South Coast! They’re $8 a person! 🐻: Bring a bear canister to store your food and scented items, including deodorant, toothpaste, etc. • 🔥 Fire ban: Common in late summer — check current restrictions before you go! I actually grew up vacationing at Michigan lakeshores and spent my college years living in Michigan. Although, back then I didn’t really appreciate it. All I wanted to do was move west and live in the mountains. Now that I’m out west with mountains, I often miss summers on the water in Michigan. If you havent visited Michigan, I highly recommend adding it to your list. Not only is the UP paradise, but Michigans beaches and quaint towns are incredible.   3. Recipes straight from my Mamaw’s kitchen ❤️ 🥄 When I was little, I didn’t know what the word “Appalachian” meant - never really used or even heard it much until high school or college. My grandparents didn’t “try” to be Appalachian, they just were. My mamaw would start flat-footin’ any time she had the chance and sang hymns at the top of her lungs. Some yummy dessert was always baking in the oven, and the garden was overflowing with tomatoes every summer. Don’t tell her, but my papaw’s cornbread was even better than hers. Made with buttermilk - never sweet. No recipe for it so I can’t share it, my papaw always just measured with his heart. I wish I appreciated more when I had her how really cool and influential on me she was. I hope you enjoy these recipes - straight from my mamaw herself.   3. 📍 Lewis River Falls, Gifford Pinchot National Forest It’s been 5–6 years since my last visit, which is wild because this has always been one of my favorite waterfalls in Washington. The size of it alone is enough to make the drive worth it. A few things I wish I’d known before going: * You’ll need a parking reservation through Recreation.gov between June 15 and Labor Day (and a printed copy for your dashboard). * Part of the road is unpaved, I recommend a high clearance vehicle. * There is no service out there, please make sure you have a full tank of gas and a map downloaded so you can find your way. * Getting down to the water can be a little sketchy in spots. * To reach the falls, you’ll need to walk through the river, so expect to get wet before you even start swimming. * The current can be strong, so use caution and know your limits. * The water is COLD, which feels nice on a hot summer day, but be warned…it’s a cold plunge. ⁉️ Leave No Trace: pack out your trash, pick up after yourself, and avoid entering lakes and rivers with sunscreen, lotions, or other products on your skin whenever possible I wait to apply sunscreen until after I’m done swimming, or I rinse off before getting into the water whenever possible Please help keep our Washington waterfalls, alpine lakes, rivers, and swimming holes beautiful by following Leave No Trace principles, packing out trash, and being mindful of what enters our waterways. #waterfalls #washingtonwaterfalls #pnw #washingtonstate #beautifuldestinations
