Symmes Chapel) is a stunning open air mountaintop chapel in the Blue Ridge Mountains of South Carolina. It’s located about 40 miles from Greenville, SC but the drive can take longer than expected due to to the steep winding mountain road you’ll have to drive to get there. The chapel is part of YMCA Camp Greenville and is free to visit (donations accepted) during daylight hours when not reserved for weddings or events. Make sure to check online before visiting to make sure no events are scheduled for the day of your planned visit. This is a great hike to do if you’re visiting Washington or the Portland area as it’s in the Columbia River Gorge! Made up of many switchbacks up an ancient volcano, this hike gives your panoramic views of the Gorge below. The paths and switchbacks were made and put into place by a man in 1915, and it is now a state park in Washington 🌲🌊 📍Beacon Rock, near Stevenson, WA 🥾1.5 miles round trip, rated moderate (I’d say on the easy side of moderate) 🚙3.5 hours from Seattle, just under an hour from Portland 🐶Dogs on leash (you will be crossing over some old wooden bridges- they’re safe, but one of our dogs was not a fan at all, and we kept having to carry her over these 😬) 🎟️A Discover Pass is required to park here. If you don’t have the annual pass, there’s a kiosk to purchase a day pass that’s $10 for the day ⚠️This may not be the hike for you if you’re nervous with heights 🌅a great sunset spot on a clear day Would you climb 52 switchbacks for these views? 😍🥾 Share with someone you’d do this with 💚

I actually grew up vacationing at Michigan lakeshores and spent my college years living in Michigan. Although, back then I didn’t really appreciate it. All I wanted to do was move west and live in the mountains. Now that I’m out west with mountains, I often miss summers on the water in Michigan. If you havent visited Michigan, I highly recommend adding it to your list. Not only is the UP paradise, but Michigans beaches and quaint towns are incredible.   1. On one of my very first hikes, I brought some baby carrots to snack on at the halfway point. I was seated beside a lake, and one of the baby carrots fell into the shallow water. I figured, it’s biodegradable, it’s not like I’m LITTERING, right? A ranger came up to me, literally out of nowhere and kindly asked if I was planning to pick it up. I did, pretending like I was going to the entire time…. but I would have left it. I had no idea what Leave No Trace really meant, and frankly I was kind of annoyed that I was being told what to do. But here’s the thing. One little carrot like that may seem rather insignificant, but it can absolutely affect the ecosystem. It can alter soil and water, attract wildlife, and change animal behavior. One piece feels small, but repeated by thousands of people, it becomes a real problem. So love your mother, and LNT! #earth #nature #leavenotrace

Grizzly bear safety in Glacier National Park Safety Tips: • Carry bear spray and know how to use it (not buried in your pack) • Hike in groups and make noise, especially in brushy or low-visibility areas • Keep food, trash, and scented items properly stored • Never approach bears (yes, even for photos) • If you see a bear: stay calm, don’t run, and give it space This is their home, we’re just visiting.
