  3. I'm not saying drilling is always the answer when it comes to speed. And I'm definitely not saying it's a replacement for top end, max effort sprinting. But it can help. So long as you're mindful of posture, rhythm, timing and cadence. Everyone will move a little different, but there are certain shapes and patterns we all make as humans when it comes to lifting and running that we can use as a reference point. Start with these drills before an acceleration (short sprint day), to help groove striking point on the foot and to get the most out of that lower leg. Some athletes will insist on keeping their foot underneath their hip during acceleration and they need to chill on that. Keep the foot out in front during drilling to promote a low heel recovery as you're coming out the gate. Next, do drills that create horizontal force and displacement, because you'll need it to leverage the ground to aid in driving you forward. Fancy speak for, throw your hips out toward the direction you want to go. Start here before we break out the parachutes and obstacle courses.
