  2. @omnihomestead Warm Springs Pools 💦The United States Geological Survey has determined that these springs have a remarkably uniform rate of flow and temperature. Unaffected by changes in the seasons, the waters remain at a natural body temperature all year and flow at the astounding rate of 1,700,000 gallons per day. The waters have an unusually high level of mineral content and are so crystal clear a book can easily be read through them. 💰Open to the public, but reservations are required $30 per person per 50-minute soak Tuesday through Friday $35 per person on Saturdays, Sundays, and major holidays. 📍11 Bath Street, Warm Springs, Virginia, approximately five miles from The Omni Homestead Resort. Soaking Etiquette The Warm Springs Pools experience is relaxing and serene. Guests are expected to be mindful of others and keep noise to a minimum. Use of cell phones and cameras are discouraged to respect all guest’s privacy. ( this was done during a private session) HISTORY Local legends say that Native Americans journeying through the valley discovered these magnificent crystal springs hundreds of years ago, and archaeological evidence seems to confirm that this area has been used by humans for at least 9,000 years. The first recorded survey of the area was done by Thomas and Andrew Lewis. Thomas Lewis and his son obtained 140 acres of the land, including the warm springs. Andrew Lewis was an early partner of Thomas Bullitt, who procured 300 acres, including the hot springs and built the first hotel in 1766 on the site of The Omni Homestead Resort. The original octagonal stone basin that held the water for bathing was built in 1761, establishing it as the first spa structure in America. Originally known as the Warm Springs Bath or the Great Bath, it was not covered by a bathhouse until the mid-1820s, at which point it was covered by a new octagonal frame building. A second structure, the Ladies’ Bathhouse, was built in the mid-1870s. The twenty-two-sided central portion stands on a circular stone wall that encloses the spring and pool. The top plate carries a faceted roof in which common rafters rise to support a central frame surrounding an oculus.

  2. There’s no perfect script. This is how I’m talking to my kids about current events right now, focusing on empathy, history, and human dignity. My kids are 10, 7, and 7. I didn’t expect to go quite as deep as we did, but they had a lot of questions.   2. I know this topic is uncomfortable for a lot of people but it remains our number one asked question in our DM’s - autism and periods. It’s so important to have these conversations because parents are terrified for their special needs daughter to start her period - I know I was! The week before (PMS week) is a lot of emotional highs/lows and behaviors we usually don’t see from Presley (it’s usually a rough week at school) and then the next week is a lot of creating peace in our home, proper rest, and nutrition. It’s been a learning journey for my husband and I but we get better every month at handling all the things during this time of the month - and you will too! 🥰🥰 A few things that helped us: - talk to your doctor about different options - some families choose to go the birth control route to eliminate periods (do what you need to do - no judgement) - period underwear - disposable period underwear - a bidet for your toilet - a loofah with a LONG handle to help with washing - I had to learn Presley would get headaches and cramps before she could tell us - so I made sure to have liquid ibuprofen on hand. - chocolate - duh! - a weighted heating pad to rest on the stomach - a hot shower in the morning and a hot Epsom salt bath at night I hope this helps! What can seem scary will become your new normal and you will ROCK it! You got this mom and dad! 💜💜💜💜💜
