Partnered with @thiefofmemory, we’ve been taking monthly looks at some of our most iconic authors. 🖊️ June’s Knopf 101 is Joan Didion: “If there’s one thing I know, there’s a Joan Didion quote for just about anything. ‘We are imperfect mortal beings, aware of that mortality even as we push it away, failed by our very complication, so wired that when we mourn our losses we also mourn, for better or for worse, ourselves. as we were. as we are no longer. as we will one day not be at all.’ (The Year of Magical Thinking) ‘I know why we try to keep the dead alive: we try to keep them alive in order to keep them with us.’ (The Year of Magical Thinking) ‘History is context.’ (After Henry) ‘Aging and its evidence remain life’s most predictable events, yet they also remain matters we prefer to leav

Thank you to @aaknopf and @ireadvintage for the #gifted books. Good morning and Happy Thursday! I love Ian McEwan so I was excited when this box showed up. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘎𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘯 was his first novel, which I haven’t read yet, so I can’t wait to read it. 📖 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙂𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙣 - In the relentless summer heat, four children retreat into an isolated world left to them by their parents and attempt to create their own version of a family. Ian McEwan’s first novel, The Cement Garden, written in 1978, explores coming-of-age, burgeoning sexuality and the distortions of a fourteen-year-old mind. 📚 𝙇𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙨 - an epic and intimate story of one man’s life across generations and historical upheavals. From the Suez Crisis to the Cuban Missile Crisis, the fall of the Berlin

✨EXCITED TO READ!✨ Thank you to my friends at @aaknopf #AAKnopfPartner for the gifted book. I’m so excited to read LAND by Maggie O’Farrell. I’ve been really into Irish history ever since I found out my sixth great-grandfather was a hero of Ireland and even has his own monument. This one is getting so much good buzz, and I can’t wait to get started. About the Book🌿 A spellbinding story of separation, longing, recovery and survival as a family makes a new home in the aftermath of tragedy. On a windswept peninsula stretching out into the Atlantic, Tomás and his reluctant son, Liam, are working for the great Ordnance Survey project to map the whole of Ireland. The year is 1865, and in a country not long since ravaged and emptied by the Great Hunger, the task is not an easy one. Tomás, howeve

Yesteryear (thank you #gifted @aaknopf ) is one of the buzziest and divisive books around bookstagram right now.⁣ ⁣ I thought about waiting to read this with my book club. And while part of me wishes I had, since there’s so much to discuss, it was just calling my name too loudly from my shelf.⁣ ⁣ So now I can add my voice to the chorus of people who loved it. Like Natalie realizes about viral influencer accounts, you’re equal parts amazed, horrified, and utterly addicted.⁣ ⁣ Much is surprisingly relevant, even for someone who gives a little shudder at the tradwife movement. The ways women are still expected to move unseen in a patriarchal world. How we present a shiny vision of ourselves. The struggle to find happiness, to create what society teaches us is the perfect life. ⁣ ⁣ Even Natali

It’s a liftable #pubday stack this week! I’ve read four from this stack so far and may possibly just have a new fave character in Mabel. THE DROP - a group of amusement park visitors get stuck on a roller coaster high abo

Are we…The Angry Women™️? 🧐 I’m all over the board on Yesteryear. I flew through it, then it dragged. I kept falling asleep, then I was setting my alarm to wake up and read. But let me tell you, the quality of books I’ve been reading... SUPERIOR! These five books really stand out from the first quarter. Happy Wednesday, friends! Here with a book from my friends @aaknopf. #partner #gifted Rachel Khong has followed up her blockbuster Real Americans with a short story collection, My Dear You. 🌹🌹🌹 I’ve been along for the ride with Khong since her 2017 debut: Goodbye, Vitamin. Short stories are not everyone’s jam, but if they are yours, I recommend this collection. The stories are a bit on the absurdist/fantastical side, and while a couple were a little less memorable, a few were provocative in a way that stuck with me after the final page. The title story “My Dear You” wrestles with the afterlife, and a story called “Serene” introduces a programmer who forms an emotional bond with an AI-enhanced doll. There are just a lot of layers and wit in these stories! 🌹🌹🌹 In one of the stories, ev
