  2. Yesterday, I reorganized and decluttered my closet. I discovered clothes I had forgotten I had! I don’t need to buy anything. How many sweaters, tshirts and pants do we really need? There are already enough garments on our planet to clothe the next 6 generations! 🤯 We also work so hard to buy clothes as they’re so expensive. From the book The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, it’s written “Every single thing you buy costs you not only money but also time”. During our Buy Nothing January, we can realize that we don’t need much in terms of clothing. I’m thinking I’m really going to reduce what I buy for the year, and wear what I have. I don’t like the actual cost of owning things I don’t need, especially the cost to the earth as all these clothes will eventually end up in landfill. If I do need something, I’ll look at secondhand stores first and then make sure they are made of natural material. I’ll also look at whether others were oppressed in making my clothes and only buy from ethical brands. But for January, I won’t be buying any clothes. How about you? ✨

  3. It’s the retirement gala tonight! Help me to choose the dress I should wear. I wanted to go to this gala for closure; it’s my last big party at our Board! It’s been a year of last events with the students. I’ve loved teaching but here’s to new projects and new beginnings! 🥂🍾

  1. ONE YEAR OLD ✨ And what a year it has been! These two girls have overcome so much in their first year of life, and we are continuously amazed by their strength and resilience. I often think back to challenging obstacles we faced while the girls were in the NICU and paediatric unit. “I can do hard things” was repeated in my mind countless times throughout the conversations with doctors explaining terrifying potential outcomes, the emergency hospital transfer, X-rays and ultrasounds, intubation, the DART protocol, the possibility of NEC, bottle aversion, hospital readmission, the NG tube, and everything in between. But I would face all of those obstacles again in a heartbeat, for they lead us to where we are today. All of those obstacles, as terrifying as they were, are just a blip in the radar now. They were awful and I wouldn’t wish them on my worst enemy, but they are part of the journey that got us to where we are now. I was expecting to feel a lot of grief as we approached the girls’ birthday and memories of our NICU stay flooded back in. But, to be honest, I am filled with gratitude and pride. I am incredibly grateful to be where we are today, and for each negative memory of the NICU, we have at least 10 positive ones that have occurred since. Being a NICU twin mom to 26 weekers has not been easy in the least bit, but it is a badge I wear with honour, I am proud. We did it, we got though the lowest of lows and we didn’t let it break us.   2. ✨ Today, on NICU Awareness Day, I want to take a moment to celebrate our NICU story. ✨ I know the NICU isn’t always something families feel like celebrating, but in our case, it was. We were given very slim chances that both of our girls would make it earthside, and the opportunity to stay in the NICU truly felt like a privilege. Of course, in an ideal world we wouldn’t have needed the NICU at all, but getting the chance to watch our babies grow there was something I wasn’t sure we’d ever experience. Everybody’s story is different, but when I look back on those months, I feel nothing but deep gratitude. The NICU is a large part of our family story, and we will forever be thankful for every single person who helped save our girls’ lives. The doctors, nurses, radiologists, respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, social workers, and so many others who cared for us and for them 💕 Before this chapter, I didn’t know much about the NICU. Now, it’s a place that holds some of the hardest but also most meaningful days of our lives.   3. O N E ✨ And just like that, these two beautiful girls are ONE YEAR OLD. This feels like a dream, I still can’t believe it. It feels like just yesterday that the doctor came flying into my room after my ultrasound, telling me the babies would be delivered in the next 45 mins. I was so excited to meet them, but I was also scared. They were only 26 weeks old and I was terrified they might not make it. And if they did, what would their future look like? There were so many unknowns it was hard to wrap my head around them all. We kept our heads high and trusted the process. And look at them now! I could not be more proud of them, and how far we have come in the past year. Addie & Ellie absolutely rocked their birthday cake smash today, and most definitely accomplished the goal of smashing their cakes lol. Thank you @isleandcophotography for the most amazing cake smash session I could have imagined. I am absolutely BLOWN away by the photos, as usual. It was ridiculously difficult choosing which sneak peaks to post! 💕 Thank you @cakesandbakesbykathryn for the most amazing smash cakes!
