  1. It was my birthday over the weekend, and I spent it crashing another friend’s birthday cottage weekend. This is the second year in a row that I’ve celebrated my birthday by crashing someone else’s destination birthday—lol, I’m starting to like this trend for myself! I feel extremely privileged to even be saying that, especially because I know what’s it’s like to have a lot of sub par birthday celebrations. But it’s all good we only counting blessings over here, and this past weekend was special.   3. My heart is full. This past week, along with most of 2023, has overflowed with love and great energy. I recognize that life has its highs and lows, and sometimes the lows unfairly outweigh the highs (believe me, I’ve been there).   3. For the last few years I’ve been writing an album, and it’s getting close to being finished. As usual, my dear friend and musical life partner of, HOLY SHIT 25 YEARS! now, @nixonboyd has lent his wizard brain to making these songs come out the way I have em in my head, not to mention shredding the guitar and all the other stuff he rules at. Aaaand at the same time Nick has been making a record of his own! It is sooooo fucking cool and and sophisticated without being pretentious, i just fucking love it, and it will (of course) be coming out on @royalmountainrecords later this year. (more on that later) Even when we’re “going solo lol”, we decided it would be more fun to do it together, so we’re gonna play a handful of shows as Nix & Menno. And, instead of playing a whole set of new songs no-one has ever heard before, we decided it would be more fun to do a story time retrospective of the almost three decades we have been writing music together. We have a couple fun festivals booked, and we’re gonna announce a few smaller things too. We’re gonna play some early stuff, Holerado stuff, some Anyway Gang stuff and some TV/movie stuff and some of our new tunes too, but mostly just tell stories and try and make eachother laugh.   3. conversations my 🧠 and ❤️ have wrestled with in the last four months after being abruptly displaced by someone who behaved in extremely toxic avoidant and narcissistic ways with me and my heart, who had me trust them and rely upon them and in turn used their power over me (and my dog) to create massive harm that i’m left (still) shouldering now. in addition to that, my brain (and nervous system) has been detoxing from the so called attachment, the unfulfilled promises, reliance, and sudden ending, without any care, grace, or love. “no closure is your closure” - no. i will never understand the constructed fear, projection, emotional immaturity, and lack of basic respect. this can be AND IS a very confusing, often debilitating, and extremely painful process. how can someone who once seemed so loving do this to a person? ever? why did they say words that i believed and then instead of being accountable for their behaviour, act completely opposite? how do they sleep at night? how do they get away with it? what do they have to tell themselves and others or believe in order to do this to someone they once “loved?” do the people in their life not ask any meaningful questions about what happened? these are questions that i’ll (seemingly) never have answers to. that will never make sense to me, despite my brain’s efforts to reconcile the files of what i thought i had vs the reality of who they really showed me they are. i truly hope that someone you once loved never tries to destroy you and your life, especially if you have an open, sensitive, tender, deep feeling heart. if this has happened to you, i hope you still keep your heart open. i hope you keep loving bravely. 🥺🫠❤️‍🩹 #relationships #discard #avoidant #narcissistic #separation
