  2. Five techniques to achieve the best results for your commercial work! With @j.hike.o / Ā ā€œOn my first day out on the field, I switched the camera to manual as I turned it on and focused on long exposures for waterfalls and astrophotography. From that day, I knew this hobby would eventually evolve into a lifestyle and a career. Some of my first waterfall photos are still my favorites today - see pics 1 and 2. I remember understanding that night how perfect the blue hour is for photography. Many years have passed, and in addition to this initial realization, the following principles have proven to give me the best results for my commercial work consistently: 1) Retaining the details. Avoiding harsh lighting by prioritizing the blue hour will increase the quality of the photograph. On the technical side, I prefer to shoot landscapes between F8 and F11 in general while not limiting my creativity to those settings. 2) Minimalism. I love clear skies or foggy days to achieve a minimalistic look. When water with movement is involved in the composition, I often aim for a long exposure for the same reasons. 3) Compression. There is something special about capturing landscapes with a longer focal length. The compression gives a very different aspect from classic wide-angle lenses. A mountain 50 kilometers away in the background, looking massive behind the main subject, provides a strong and distinct personality to the image. 4) Evaluate the location you are shooting at. If you have a specific vision, find your composition, locate where the sun is, and wait for the lighting that enlightens your vision. Don’t shoot at any time of the day just because you are there now. 5) As I evolve, I need to remove distracting objects in my photos less and less. I create minimalistic images straight on the field to speed up editing. This approach helps me save a lot of time behind the screen. When taking photos, think about the final results you are looking for and what normally makes you lose time on the editing part.ā€ You can read the original article with @j.hike.o by visiting the link in the bio! ✨

  3. Five key ingredients for a great travel photo! With @j.hike.o / ā€œIn 2017, while visiting Sint Maarten, we had to evacuate the island due to the imminent threat of Hurricane Irma, which ultimately destroyed nearly everything. The experience in Sint Maarten deeply impacted me. As a result, I felt a compelling desire to delve into photography. Given the constant changes in nature, each photograph becomes a unique moment, impossible to replicate the same way twice. Growing up in southern Quebec, Canada, I have always been surrounded by nature and loved exploring new trails in the forest of my backyard, allowing me to develop my skills. In a landscape photo, I am generally looking for the following elements: 1) Retaining the details Avoiding harsh lighting by prioritizing the blue hour will increase the quality of the photograph. On the technical side, I prefer to shoot landscapes between F8 and F11 in general while not limiting my creativity to those settings. 2) Minimalism I love clear skies or foggy days to give a minimalistic aspect to my images. When water with movement is involved in the composition, I often aim for a long exposure for the same reasons. 3) Compression There is something special about capturing landscapes with a longer focal length. The compression gives a very different aspect from classic wide-angle lenses.Ā Having aĀ mountain 50 km away in the background, looking massive behind the main subject, adds a strong personality to the photo. 4) Ideal lighting Take the time to try different perspectives. If you have a specific vision, find your composition, locate where the sun is, and wait for the ideal lighting. Don’t shoot at any time of the day just because you are there now.Ā A single outstanding shot surpasses the value of 10 mediocre framesĀ that lack the inspiration toĀ be edited. 5) A guiding lineĀ  I darken the areas I do not want the eye to focus on and highlight the desired areas. I also create minimalistic images straight on the field to save time behind the screen.ā€

  3. Well…. Snatch game happened LOLOL What a wild ride that was, I’m so sorry @elainecarroll, I tried to do your Mary Kate justice 🤣🤣🤣 ANYWHO, onto the runway look! This look is honestly my favorite look I brought with me to drag race. Every single detail of this outfit was just so perfectly planned. The pattern for the dress was created out of two McQueen Plato’s Atlantis patterns. One of the aquatic looks mixed with the finale skirt worn by @ladygaga in the bad romance music video. The entire dress is completely hand beaded with dyed moss attached and in total weights about 10lbs. The hair is one of my favorites that I did for the season. Extremely out of the box for me, but tied into this fantastical alien creature that I wanted to bring. The alien look backstory is that she is an alien queen travelling around the galaxy collecting flora from all different planets to help create her ecosystem and provide oxygen to her planet. The dress is essentially producing her oxygen which she uses her breathing mask to take it all in. I let @will.burgs take the reins in designing how the flora would look, and he chose to go with hand beading the entire dress (@kevingermanier inspo) on top of corset mesh. The gloves and shoes are covered in actual beetle wings to create the look of scales! Outfit by @will.burgs Beaded by Will, @whatsawren, me, and @danidonayre Breathing mask by @thehelenapoison Hair by me Shoes/gloves detailed by me and @_guracious Photos by @_qweenton …. … .. . #canadasdragrace #dragrace #cdr5 #teamperla #fashion

  2. This weekend, we defied the norm by taking our 5 kids on a winter camping trip at -14°C (7°F) (dipped to -16°C at night). Why? To teach them that life isn’t just about following the usual paths but embracing challenges for unforgettable experiences. Outfitted with our ā€œhotā€ tent and stove from @citizencanvas, we ventured into the serene, snow-covered landscape, a stark contrast to the crowded and bug-infested sites of summer. The cold brought us closer, sharing stories around the stove, proving comfort isn’t limited to familiar settings and memories can be created anywhere. They’ve currently spent the weekend running around the forest and playing in the snow, or sat in the tent reading books and playing cards/PokĆ©mon šŸ˜‚ and as far as we can tell, they love it! Winter camping isn’t just about enduring the cold; it’s about discovering peace in solitude, enjoying snow activities, and learning new survival skills. The crisp air made for better sleep, devoid of summer’s muggy nights. And, without the usual wildlife or bugs, it felt safer and more serene. We wanted our kids to see that facing adversity, like the freezing temperatures, can be empowering. It teaches resilience, adaptability, and the joy of carving your own path. For more tips on family camping, check out @funk.studios, offering a wealth of content on navigating outdoor adventures with kids. This journey was more than a test of our new gear; it was a lesson in exploration and possibility, showing that even in -14°C (7°F), adventure awaits those willing to step outside the comfort zone. This has also been another incredible @hipcamp location and experience. If you haven’t used it before you should seriously check it out. We camped at Natures Acres, Mount Forest, Ontario.

  2. POV: moments before she’s no longer the only child. Motherhood Sessions always hold a special place in my heart. It’s such a magical time (even if you aren’t feeling magical 😜). This time in your life goes by so fast. Before you know it, the kids are grown. Book your photos. Don’t wait for the ā€œperfect timeā€ the perfect time is now. I often get asked if I’ll do sessions other than at my farm. Of course! I love shooting here but I always want us to pick a location that has meaning or suits the vision for the session. If your vision is inside, but you don’t want to do them at your house, I have lots of ideas! One being that we rent a studio space! These photos were taken at @whitebrickstudioco and it fit the vision so perfectly! I’m so happy with how the photos turned out, I can’t wait to document more memories there. Let’s book your session today 🧔 . . . . #blacksaddlephotos #blacksaddlephotography #familyphotoshootideas #huntsvillefamilyphotographer #huntsvilleweddingphotographer #muskokafamilyphotographer #muskokaweddingphotographer #ontariofamilyphotographer #ontariophotographer #storyteller #documentaryphotographer #lifestylephotographer #lifestylephotography #familyphotography #studiosession #motherhoodunplugged #motherhood #northbayphotographer #northbay #studio #naturallightphotographer #documenttheirdays #maternityphotography #pregnancy #onlychild #nostalgia #unscriptedposingapp #photobugcommunity #heartfulphotogs
