  2. The first 32° East Open Studios of the year took place on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th April featuring artists Agaba Joel Gabriel, Halim Ramses, Lyndah Katusiime and Ssebo Lule. The artists concluded their three month residencies with an invitation for the public to come into their studios and their processes over that time. Agaba turned his studio into a gallery of images and video from demolition amidst found objects from the site that evoked instant nostalgia in the #32Community present. Halim invited visitors into a conversation about A Story Of A Group That Gathered In Kampala, the publication that resulted from his residency which focused on the dynamics of gatherings. Ssebo Lule’s studio transformed into an immersive installation driven by the humble matchstick and his astute poetry. All the stages of Lyndah’s explorations into cassava and water hyacinth as sustainable building material replacements were on display and started many conversations on their practical applications. Our Open Studios provide the Ugandan public with access to imaginative and bold art that can inspire and drive long-term exploration of the issues that shape our lives.
