BEHIND THE SCENES: Ahairwebyona Monica is working with Abdul Ilaah Yousuff to create the Hamue Pavillion, an installation that explores the ideas of the individual and the collective, using eucalyptus poles from construction sites as the material of exploration. After construction, these poles are often used as firewood which inspired her interpretation of care instructions through repurposing them. The poles are stiff, unwieldy individual materials that they are bringing together to create a fluid collective form at the intersection of past and present. In the past, community was vital but those who seemed different were rejected. In modern times, we value individualism but often at the cost of community which leads to isolation, loneliness and declining mental health. The  project  aims at asking the question, “Can we get the best of both worlds and bring them together to create new care instructions for ourselves?"  For this project, Ahairwebyona and Abdul are supported by the Innovation Consortium which has offered their workshop for her to create her installation. #KLAART24
