  2. Meanwhile, back at the ranch… I’m just making compost for my plants! 😂 This is just a small sample of comments I get as a mixed race, white presenting Muslim woman online. So what is it like for those who look outwardly Muslim? For those who don’t have white skin? Horrible. Unsafe. Scary. Worrying. The list of negative emotions goes on… There’s a serious problem here in the UK. It does not feel safe for many people who live here anymore. It reminds me of the horror stories I heard from the past from my father and family. It’s devastating. So please reach out to those you know that may be affected by this… because chances are - they are but perhaps didn’t feel safe to say anything. Can you blame them? No one should have to deal with this, regardless of their gender, race, skin colour or religion. I pray things change. But we too must also be the change by condemning and challenging this behaviour and being an ally to those affected. P.S… If you don’t think there’s a problem, that’s YOUR privilege.

  3. Make Nabeedh With Me… Nabeedh/Nabeez #/Nabidh is a health drink, native to the Arabian peninsula. It’s known as a ‘Sunnah’ in Islam, which means it’s something the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did and enjoyed. It is said to have been his favourite drink. It has many health benefits such as naturally boosting energy, aiding digestion and helping to reduce stomach acid and gout. It’s very simple to make and perfect for Ramadan! RECIPE INGREDIENTS - 5-7 dates (I used Ajwa, but any dates will do!) - Water (I used Zam Zam water for a ‘Super Sunnah’ but you can use any water, I would recommend filtered if possible) METHOD 1. Half and de-stone your dates 2. Put dates and stones into a cup or jug 3. Cover your dates with water - you want enough water in there to make the amount of Nabeedh you need, so bare this in mind 4. Cover the jug over and pop into the fridge over night (12-24 hours) 5. Stir your mixture and serve (you can strain it if you don’t like bits but the bits are that fine you can’t feel them) - You can either eat the left over dates, dispose of them or cover them over one more time as above for a second batch of Nabeedh. It will be weaker in taste and colour. Some people may prefer this. IMPORTANT: After 48 hours the dates/mixture begins the natural process of becoming alcohol. So it is not allowed for Muslims to consume it. So please be aware and if it doubt, throw it out! Have you heard of Nabeedh before?   2. Year 5 🤍 whew 5 years just like that! God’s hand of grace has been upon us HEAVY, in a day and age where young marriages are looked down upon and marriages generally don’t last, I’m so thankful to our heavenly father for bringing me a man who loves me through all of lives ups and downs and will become the best father to our child and children in the future!   1. I visited Pakistan for the first time in 16 years and here’s how it went. As a British-Pakistani whose family have been in the U.K. for over 65 years, I’ve often felt disconnected from my culture, language and family. But, amidst rising racism in Britain, this trip felt truly formative. Pakistan has so much to offer – in its people, culture, landscapes. Even I have been susceptible to misconceptions about the country, but experiencing it for myself has left me feeling even prouder of who I am as a British-Pakistani. From meeting my family for the first time since I was a child to learning about our country’s history, visiting Pakistan after so long felt so affirming. Despite struggling to speak Urdu and cultural nuances, I felt a sense of belonging here and can’t wait to visit again and feel even more unshakeably proud of who I am. And, to all those who regularly tell us to “go back to our own country”, we’re here because you were there. 🇵🇰

  2. A lot happened in 2024. I was made redundant from my dream job, found another dream job weeks later, lost friends who I thought would be in my life forever, gained friends who have changed my life, travelled to five countries (including a lifelong dream of visiting New York City!), bettered unhealthy eating behaviour, interviewed some of the most famous people in the world, saw my favourite artists live, created some of my best work to date, moved out of a stressful flat-share, moved in with one of my best friends, celebrated my 25th birthday and more. I’ve laughed, cried, screamed, rotted, you name it. But, through the madness, I’ve found an unwavering sense of faith that has kept me strong and hopeful through it all. I don’t often post about my personal life on social media, but it’s easy to compare ourselves to the highlight reels we often share of holidays, dinners, parties and more. I’m guilty of this, too. This year has blessed me yet simultaneously chewed me up and spat me out, and I feel so immensely grateful for all of it. How lucky am I to have to stress about a busy week at work? Or falling out with a friend? Or not being able to buy all the things I want? I have a healthy body, a roof over my head, food in my belly, people who love me, a career which fulfils me, a religion which grounds me. As I look back on this year, which has been stained by ongoing and inhumane genocides in Palestine, Sudan and beyond, I’ve learned to be grateful for every breath and step I take on this earth. So, in short, all I want to say is that comparison is the thief of joy, be kind as you never know what people are going through, free Palestine, God bless and happy new year. ❤️
