Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free festival that celebrates places and stories, old and new. Every September you get the chance to explore hundreds of fascinating buildings across Scotland for free. Located in an old fire station, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Museum and Heritage Centre is home to historical fire engines, equipment and displays. Leo absolutely loved trying on uniforms & helmets, sitting in an old fire engine and asking lots of questions. Hes obsessed with the yellow model engine thats on display and enjoyed learning this was once the colour of trucks in Coventry as yellow was much more reflective under street lights.   1. A few days ago I breastfed for the last time. I didn’t know at the time that it would be the last, but at 17 months, the baby was down to just once before bed. And then she stopped being that bothered & I stopped offering and so we just… stopped. • So why is this moment reel worthy? Well, it’s not just the end of breastfeeding this baby, it’s the end of breastfeeding completely for me. I started nearly 13 years ago and breastfed 7 kids (not all at once weirdos). That’s roughly 9 years breastfeeding 😅 • I breastfed on planes, trains, boats & benches. Cafes, restaurants, supermarkets & car parks. Sitting down, standing up, lying down & crouching.   2. A bit of a different post from me today, but listen up. Have you heard of the Pangolin? I’ll admit, up until last year, they weren’t an animal I was aware of. But the pangolin has become something of a life changer in our household. • We came across them when we were studying China last year. My son, now 10, discovered that the critically endangered pangolin is the most trafficked animal in the world, killed for their scales. • It was like something in my son ignited. He could see his path, he could feel his passion: animal conservationist. • Now I could make the point of this post that home education gives him the chance to study & research his passions (since his pangolin moment, we have studied the animal kingdom, biology, evolution, the environment & how it pertains to conservation. He wrote to @davidattenborough to voice his concerns, Sir David’s reply being one of his most treasured possessions - swipe to see) But it’s not about home education. It’s not about me. It’s about a boy who has discovered what he wants his purpose to be: Save the Pangolin. • Here’s the thing, when my son was asking me recently about Instagram, he said, “imagine if those 10,000 people could know about pangolins when they didn’t before. Imagine if those 10,000 people told another 10,000 people, and another… people might start to know about pangolins.   2. *Yu-Gi-Oh* I've recently introduced Theo to the Yu-Gi-Oh anime, and he immediately wanted to play the game, so Daddy jumped on board and built him a deck. With Theo's ASD he tends to become obsessed with things, and Yu-Gi-Oh is the newest obsession. Since getting his cards all Theo talks about is Yu-Gi-Oh. He dreams about it, he makes his own cards, and he even pretends to play it against his brother.
