  2. Today we said goodbye to my Baba (grandfather). Words can’t possibly do justice to the man he was. He was truly one of the good ones, actually not just one of the good ones but the best ones in life. He was honest, humble, kind, soft natured and a true gentleman. Our baba was one of the most beautiful people you could ever meet. A man of very few words but when he did speak, he spoke with love and meaning He was incredibly intelligent. For someone of his generation, it was rare to find an Indian man or woman who could both read and write in Punjabi and in English, but he did with ease. He was well read, deeply knowledgeable, and always valued learning. He took so much pride in his appearance. That’s one thing I don’t think any of us will ever forget. Always showing up to family events with his perfectly pressed kurta pajama with a smart blazer. I was always so proud to say “that’s my Baba.” None of us had ever heard him raise his voice or say a bad word about anyone. He had the purest soul and was there when we all needed him. He brought us all peace, serenity and calm from just sitting with him or being around him. He had a unique presence, bringing the best out of the people around him. I had the pleasure of doing kirtan with Baba. I would play the vaja and he would be sitting next to me playing the dholki and singing with me in his beautiful tone of voice. These are memories I will cherish forever. He leaves us at the age of 94. A husband, father, mama, thaiya, baba, nana, and great grandad. We were blessed to have him in our lives and will forever remember his infectious smile. ❤️

  3. HELLO!⁣⁣⁣⁣ A little intro every now & then doesn't go amiss so I thought I'd come & say hi. It's really lovely to have you here.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ I'm Alison. I'm a Registered Nutritionist & Fertility Specialist. I help couples & individuals navigate their journey towards parenthood - via natural conception or ART. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ I have a special interest in miscarriage & recurrent loss. I've suffered loss myself (many years ago) & it was devastating. Around that time I needed answers. It's something I hear from so many of my clients. It's overwhelming. It's so easy to feel lost. You want a roadmap. You want support. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ We work together to reduce your personal risk factors using lots of detective work, nutrition, lifestyle & testing - & we dig deep. We consider hormone balance, reproductive microbiome issues (vaginal & seminal), immunity, genetics - anything that could be causing dysfunction. It's about the individual & working out what's right for YOU - to support your fertility & overall health.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ During my years of clinical practice I've had the honour of supporting hundreds of clients. I'm passionate about education & guest lecture @ion_nutrition (where I trained) & mentor other practitioners. I work with an amazing network of consultants, doctors, acupuncturists & proud to be part of the brilliant @fertility.nutrition.centre⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ So this is me⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 💖 I now have 3 daughters: 13,15 & 17. I adore them & they drive me nuts in equal measure (there are ALOT of hormones flying around our house)⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣💖 I'm a dog person. We have a spinone. His name is Sid & our morning walks set me up each & every day⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 💖 I love cake! Not every day; but a weekend with afternoon tea is a happy weekend indeed!⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣💖 Before nutrition I worked in telly as a drama producer. I loved it but my own fertility issues sowed the seed for something else & I took the plunge & retrained⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ So here I am.⁣⁣⁣⁣ Thank you for being here 💖 ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Love, Alison xx

  1. It took me almost 40 years to feel comfortable claiming my heritage. My grandad is Jamaican. Unlike many who left during the Windrush era, he returned home to take care of our family and plant the seeds he’d gathered in England back into Jamaican soil. In doing so, he sacrificed a life alongside his wife, sons, and grandchildren. I grew up white-presenting and felt I wasn’t Jamaican enough to share this part of my heritage because of how I look. When people don’t see your identity the way you experience it, it can make you feel like you have to constantly explain yourself… or stay quiet. For years, I stayed quiet but i now just want to encourage my understanding to th difference between Heritage, ethnicity, nationality, skin colour, white privalage and cultural capital. 1. The discomfort i feel often comes from the white privilege i held. We should Carry it with responsibility, awareness, empathy, and a commitment to advocate for others. 2. The idea that you can be “¼ something” as if identity is a maths equation is a racial construct. Heritage isn’t measured like that. 3. Cultural capital your ethnicity and identity — is shaped by lived experience with your family and community. 4. A friend once told me: “Growing up in a room full of your family while looking like the oppressor requires unpacking.” That stayed with me. 5. Understanding your triggers matters. Maybe it was the jokes about not fitting in. Maybe you joined the humour to protect yourself. Maybe there was resentment around the privilege you carried. Or maybe the uncertainty around you made certain spaces feel complicated. But one thing became clear to me: You owe it to your grandparents to carry their legacy — and to own your heritage with conviction and authenticity. Do it with confidence along side responsibility of your privilege. . Where have you struggled with being mixed or misunderstood? #JamaicanHeritage #Belonging #IdentityJourney #PersonalStory #boldwillhold
