Details and thoughts on my @thebargelloedit quilted vest… ✨bought this fabric with no clue what to make however this apricot and black combo spoke to me ✨ pattern is the @newcrafthouse Everyday Waistcoat ✨ I used some cotton linen from my stash and this gorgeous fabric from @thebargelloedit as the 2nd fabric, quilting both layers with some wadding. ✨ following the patterned fabric when quilting I think worked a treat. It gives a lovely effect on the outer fabric ✨ hand sewing the binding and French seaming was worth it, it’s given it a great finish and makes it fully reversible ✨ I wasn’t sure id wear a quilted vest but let me tell you, I’ve lived in it since making it and I will for sure be making another ✨no regrets making it in black… the versatility and styling options are endless. ✨ My fellow bees @miasartyfarty @thebettysilk & @tonyr.maker as well as other accounts I’ve seen later really inspired this make. ✨ head over to @thebargelloedit now… the fabric collection has a limited run and is having a massive sale as we speak. This week, Hannah’s in Seaview on the north east side of the Island, where she swims a couple of times a week with her mum (all year round!). “Quay Rocks is great because unlike many beaches on the Island, you can get a decent swim whatever the tide is doing,” she says. “But when the tide is right, I really love swimming at Seagrove Bay - it’s a little more effort to get there but it’s well worth it, even on a misty day like this!” Hannah wears our Winnie beach skirt in navy towelling cotton, and is also keeping warm in a pair of our snuggly merino boot socks.

Depop is notorious for allowing drop sellers to use their app to sell cheap clothing, (although they don’t actually condone it, and they ask that people doing this be reported), which are usually sourced from AliExpress, a website that sells cheaply made plastic clothing manufactured in factories that exploit their workers. ⁣ ⁣ Most people who drop ship use a website called Oberlo, which is a middle man for drop shippers to add any clothes from AliExpress (and I mean ONLY AliExpress. Oberlo don’t allow any other brands) to their website/depop, and only when someone pays for the product, do you put your order in to the factory, using Oberlo. ⁣ ⁣ AliExpress, for those who don’t know, is like Wish, but on acid. It’s sort of a wholesaler that stocks anything from clothing to beauty products to electric appliances. The photos used to market products are stock images, they’re always discounted & have exceptionally long shipping times. ⁣ ⁣ Oberlo state that “many suppliers from AliExpress are interested in working with dropshippers to offer better prices, packaging, or product customization as your business scales.’ Of course they want to work with you. AliExpress don’t have to do any of the hard marketing work themselves. ⁣ ⁣ This isn’t just one person doing it on their own. This is a known and encouraged business model, targeting “young entrepreneurs” to create their own fast fashion. Most probably see it as a business adventure, without knowledge of the cost of the clothing behind it. ⁣ ⁣ In essence, drop shipping has created thousands of mini fast fashion sellers, poisoning secondhand selling apps. ⁣ ⁣ HOW TO SPOT DROP SHIPPERS:⁣ Do they sell the item in multiple sizes?⁣ Do they say shipping could take several weeks?⁣ Is the clothing SUPER on trend?⁣ Is the picture a stock photo/does it appear often in your feed? ⁣ Is it listed as “unbranded”?⁣ Do they offer international shipping? (This can mean that the supplier offers worldwide shipping) ⁣ Do they say they’re “just like this brand” or “similar to this brand” of a popular item? And do they list it cheaper? ⁣

  2. this is your annual reminder that you do not need to buy a t shirt to show your support for IWD (especially from fast fashion brands). ⁣ ⁣ boohoo, nastygal & prettylittlething (among other brands, I just couldn’t fit them all onto one page) are all participating in IWD today. nastygal & PLT are selling t shirts with slogans such as “girls support girls”, and boohoo are literally just having a sale because they fancied it. ⁣ ⁣ brands are capitalising off IWD, a bloody wonderful cause to celebrate women all across the world who are working to make it a better place; by selling t shirts made in sweatshops using slave labour. ⁣ ⁣ 80% of garment workers are female, from black & brown communities usually in the global south. these women are often trapped in poverty wages, not allowed to unionise, struggle to feed their families and work illegal hours in factories that are often unsafe and unsanitary. ⁣ ⁣ instead of selling us your performative activism, why don’t you practice what you preach? start by paying your workers a living wage. ⁣ ⁣ @boohoo @nastygal @prettylittlething @asos @zara ✨people to follow for more info: @ohsoethical @fash_rev @cleanclothescampaign
