  1. I really, REALLY didn't want to write this post. I still feel ashamed, and I was also worried about the stigma. But the one thing which got me through the last hideous couple of weeks was the fact in recent years, we have become much more educated about the menopause. And that really helped. So here goes. A couple of weeks ago, I was hit with two sudden new symptoms. The first was an all-consuming anxiety, an anxiety I've been lucky enough never to experience before. It made me dizzy. It made me cry all the time. And the second one was even worse. It was the most intense brain fog I have ever known. It felt like operating behind five panes of glass. Large chunks of my day went missing. I had to write a list of the most basic tasks to do each day because I knew I wouldn't be able to remember them. I'm a barrister. I was petrified. How could I work with my brain not working? I have written this because if I can make even one person feel less alone by writing it then it will have been worth it. I've never had a hot flush or a mood swing. But it WAS hormones. AND I'm also writing this because there is hope. I'm out the other side now and if anything I feel better than ever now. I know it might happen again but I'm less scared. The person who helped me was my lovely friend Caroline Sheldon at @midlife_management (very much not an ad). I was tempted to increase my HRT but she suspected it was actually an oestrogen surge and she was right. She suggested some other options and within days, the cloud was lifting. I owe her so much. If you're in any way struggling please do see if she can help she offers free Zoom calls in the first instance. I am in no way an expert on menopause so please talk to your GP or meno expert. But these things also helped me: - I started the Couch to 5K app with a friend. Honestly I ran more than the 3 times a week! - Being honest with everyone. I told my daughters. I told my optician so she would write down everything I needed to remember. - the hardest thing was telling work. But I did. And the truth is, we have no business feeling ashamed. We do have business educating other women so we all feel less alone. Thanks for reading.

  2. Hey, happy new year! It's been a while since I posted, and this is because I wanted to have a real think about how I felt about Insta. I had started to feel very jaded with the content I was being shown. And then I realised that all I want to see is the joy other people find in life. So that's what I'm going to give you in 2026. Things which bring me joy. Have a wee scroll to see if this fits with you. There will be solo travel and Granny Paulette for sure. This first photo was taken on the exact border between France and Belgium on 29th December, on a day trip to Lille, because my eldest daughter loves a niche trip and frankly, I love them too. I'll also be having four months off later this year and yes, I can assure you that you can follow along on some great trips! Wishing you all the happiest 2026.   2. Ready for Rule of 5 in 2024? It's great to have you here! It's been such a lovely experience travelling with all my Rule of 5 friends this last year, I couldn't possibly look back. This week, Hannah’s in Seaview on the north east side of the Island, where she swims a couple of times a week with her mum (all year round!). “Quay Rocks is great because unlike many beaches on the Island, you can get a decent swim whatever the tide is doing,” she says. “But when the tide is right, I really love swimming at Seagrove Bay - it’s a little more effort to get there but it’s well worth it, even on a misty day like this!” Hannah wears our Winnie beach skirt in navy towelling cotton, and is also keeping warm in a pair of our snuggly merino boot socks.
