  2. There is nothing like a @sewliberated pattern release to kick off MeMadeMay2026! I know you’re all surprised. Me, barrel legs? Fun topstitching?? How original! But my love for the new Madrone pants runs deep y’all. I truly love these pants, so much that I couldn’t be bothered to take them off long enough to iron them before showing off to you 🫠 I made my true size 6 during testing, and made no adjustments, although I *think* there was a bit of fine tuning done to the rise and inseam lengths after testing. Mine are more of a 25” inseam, because I’m short. I choose a light weight cotton twill that has since been discontinued, RIP to Bob Kaufman twills 💀 They were a joy to sew. So much fun with all the curved seams and panels. I really wish I could show you the inside, but alas I’m wearing them and can’t take my pants off at work. So, for today, Day 1 of MeMadeMay I’m showing off my Madrone Pants, sewn earlier this year during testing, with my Lily Sheer top by @irenelin.knit knit last year. With my favorite shiny shoes, obviously 💁🏼‍♀️ I would be lying if I didn’t mention that I have mixed feelings about Insta these days. With the rise of internet robots trying to steal our joy and the demise of the hashtag I’ve been wondering how MeMadeMay will even work this year. However, this will be my 700th year participating and I’m just not quite ready to let it go yet. It really is the best time of year to be a maker on the internet. My goals are to great dressed in my memades, have fun and be positive about it. So, as always, with apologies to anyone who is still here that isn’t into making/wearing your own clothing, I’ll see you on the other side.

  3. Hi! It’s me! I took an unexpectedly long break from gird posting (unfortunately not from scrolling 🙃) and I have a surprising amount of new faces! Hi! I’m Jessamy, and I’ve been winning at thread chicken for about 10 years. 🧵🐥🏆 I really like to sew, and knit and I’m learning to spin. I basicially really like to make stuff with all the fibers. That’s why I’m here! I don’t consider myself a content creator or an influencer, I’m a maker. And I mainly make things for myself. Truthfully, I can be a bit chaotic in my makes sometimes. I’m not the best wardrobe planner, and am not a minimalist or capsule wardrobe person. I sometimes think I’d like to be, but I am easily distracted🙃 I like neutrals, I like brights (obvi) and I love gingham. So, if you’re here for all that, welcome! Say hi! {I’m also a long caption writer, and I know most people don’t read it, but I can’t help myself} So, it’s still hot, and summers not *actually* over, so I decided to fire up my machine and sew a #tateromper I haven’t sewn anything for myself in over a month and this was the perfect weekend project. Happy, fun, oh so comfy with just the slightest bit of clown vibes? I’m in 🤡 Sewing Deets: Tate Romper by @smallmuseum_ & @jessilous_closet I sewed the 4 for my 33ish” bust. I made a few slight mods; took 3” off the straps and sewed them slightly wider plus added some interfacing to them. I also took 1.5” out of the bodice and 1.5” off the legs. My guess is that I need to make a little tee to wear under, because I can see I’ll need to wear this all through fall. The fabric is a linen table cloth I found on sale from JCrew earlier this summer, and it is shockingly nice! #isew #isewmyownclothes #sewover40 #sewistsofinstagram #sewingismysuperpower #memade

  1. After failing to finish making an outfit for a wedding last fall, I was so relieved I could debut THIS dress on time for another wedding! 👗 It’s got wonderful movement and yet I simultaneously feel like a painting. While I originally planned to make a bustier dress, the fitting process got the best of me, so I had to abandon that idea in order to finish ANYthing in time. I instead turned to my trusty McCall’s hacked #M8195M8211combo that I’ve now made 4 times! (I haven’t posted the 3rd yet; it’s coming eventually.) The combination is #M8211 View A’s sleeves / back bodice and #M8195’s skirt / bodice (but shirred). I gathered and lengthened the circle skirt to 24”, and added a contrast tier in a different print from the same fabric collection. I slashed & spread the bodice’s “cups” to be more suitable for my chest shape…I think McCall’s drafts for B cup (I’m G), so my edits gave me a better gathered look, and the bottom cup seam doesn’t ride up. This dreamy fabric is from the “Painterly Petals” collection from Robert Kaufman, which I bought 2 years ago for a patchwork dress that I ended up never starting. Oops! Earlier this year I spotted the brand Batsheva using prints from this same fabric collection (under the name “Monet”), and those visuals brought my floral green dream back into focus! Luckily I already had it stashed and could cut into it when inspiration finally hit! And I convinced my dude Brian to sew his tie (last photo) using another print from the same collection, also from my stash. Just a hint of matching 🌸🌿 I was not prepared for how long it would take to sew ruffles onto a midi circle skirt, but then I measured the circle hem and it was around 23 ft (7m!), so the time-suck made more sense. For the extra tier, I used a gathering foot for the first time, and it really sped up *part* of the process, at least. ——— Details: Sewing patterns: #McCalls8211 + #McCalls8195 #M8195M8211combo Dress fabrics: @RobertKaufman #PainterlyPetals cotton lawn and quilting cotton colorways “Multi” & “Pastel” (19148-205 & 19149-198) Tie fabric: Kaufman Painterly Petals in “Navy” (19149-9) Shoes: @charlottestone Molly in “Orange Peel” 🍊

  3. I’ve been looking forward to today for months, when my 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘵 knitwear designs could finally be revealed ✨ This is the #LisseJacket pattern from the upcoming issue 36 of @pompommag, and it’s a double knitted modular hooded jacket, inspired by quilt coats! Because it’s double knitted, both the colorful and textured sides are formed at the same time, while the modularity gives it visible “quilted” lines! It’s reversible too ☺️ An interlude: When I saw the behind-the-scenes photos from this photoshoot, I was totally floored. I got teary. Coelina, the model, has a radiance that gave so much life to this design, and I’m so thankful for Pom Pom’s vision to pull this all together. Anyway, more pattern details! Lisse comes in 2 lengths, long (shown here) and cropped, as well as a folded collar option if you don’t want to make a full hood. It uses an alpaca boucle yarn to give it that fuzzy quilt batting texture on the inside, while the outside is adorned with direction-changing stripes in DK weight yarn! I encourage you to dig through your yarn stash, if you have one, and pull out all sorts of colorful scraps to pair together from past projects, similar to how many quilters save and use allllll the extra fabric bits. For my sample, I dyed lots of similar shades to play with my low-contrast-but-neon look that I love. The jacket is edged in a thick icord that mimics quilt binding, and has 2 sets of icord ties to close up the front, also inspired by quilt jacket ties! I will be having yarn preorders in a few weeks, and you can buy as little (50g half skeins) or as much as you want of any color. I don’t want anyone to feel pressured to ever buy a kit for a pattern when there’s usually great stuff to be had at home! So it will be a build-your-own-kit preorder situation. ——— Credits: model: Coelina Edwards / @cocophillips photographer : Laura Morsman / @lauramorsmanphotography hair and makeup : Ilaina Espinaco / @ilaina.ruth background quilt: Season Evans / @s.d.evans Pattern: #LisseJacket by me, Amalia / @kindred.red yarn: @kindred.red Rad DK and @knit_picks Alpaca Bouclé Publication: @pompommag / Pom Pom issue 36: Block Party / #PPQ36

  1. Why didn't anyone say something... Babes, I'm rounding out my second full year in the crafting community and I just have to say: y'all shoulda warned a gal. My wallet... please help her... she's sick... I accidentally got three advents this year — yes, accidentally. I swear I didn't mean to — and currently have no idea what to do with all of them. What... Uh, what do y'all do?? I didn't think this through. Regardless, I am ridiculously excited for advent season and I can't wait to dig in. Like... few holidays are as important to me as Thanksgiving and even this fella is wondering if November can speed up a little. I mean, LOOK AT THE SIZE of this advent @pru_yarns sent me! What on earth could be hiding in here?? I'm debating whether or not I should even open the box before December 1st just to prolong the mystery. For the time being, I just have to figure out where on earth all of this is going to go after it's unwrapped and if I can successfully hide it from Mark... #KnittingReel #KnittingReels #KnittingMeme #KnittingMemes #CrochetReel #CrochetReels #CrochetMeme #CrochetMemes #YarnReel #YarnReels #accessibility description: the video is a hand-held, close up scene of our mustachioed Crafter as he walks down the leaf-strewn sidewalk of his sleepy, Midwestern neighborhood. Dressed in a caramel-colored, cable-knit cardigan, a hand-knit beanie, and a plaid flannel of soft tan, brown, green, and red, he is the very picture of autumnal coziness. He addresses the camera directly, explaining how he spent the morning walking to and from the post office, hoisting his loot up onto his shoulder: a massive white box bearing big red letters: PRU HAPPY MAIL DAY. An absolutely massive advent of hand-dyed yarn waiting for the season to begin next month. As he walks, we hear the sounds of squirrels chittering in the background, the crunchiest of leaves crackling under the tread of his boots, and the gentle breeze as it dances through the trees around him. The scene smells richly of Midwestern November. Fallen leaves, cracked-open walnut shells, fallen acorns, and the heavy aroma of cold, wet earth. Sweet, dense, and invigorating.

  2. Oh my sweet summer child... It's January and I'm seeing a million and one little knitting bebes enter the world and lemme just say — I love seeing all of you crop up into my timeline. The world needs more crafters and I, for one, welcome y'all with open arms. THAT SAID. Let me spare you the pain and misery I experienced when I joined this big ole international crafting circle and break the gig down in three easy steps. 1. Knitting is more expensive than you think it will be. That doesn't mean that it HAS to be expensive. It can be done on a budget! But that DOES mean you're gonna have to keep your eyes out for deals, destashes, and hit those community forum boards for resales. As a girly who loves a deal, I can attest. 2. The patterns are not overpriced. I won't elaborate. Don't ask people to share the copy they bought with you. 3. If you walk into this thinking that you know how to count... you are wrong. If you believe that you can identify one stitch from another and easily calculate the sum on your needles... you are incorrect. It isn't your fault. Like entering the Costco parking lot, something happens to our brains the second we pick up these needles and we enter a collective hive mind of smooth brained cognition. Don't fret. Just go with it. #knittingmeme #knittingmemes #knittingreel #knittingreels #crochetreel #crochetreels #crochetmeme #crochetmemes #accessibility description: The video opens as our mustachioed Crafter sits down in his studio, smiling warmly at the camera. Dressed in a green colorwork knit sweater and surrounded by copper-colored walls and kerchief-draped lamps, he is a vision of comfy-cozy. Rapid-fire and lighthearted, it snaps from closeup shot to full frame, adding to the excited energy of the video. In the background, a punchy bossa nova bounces until he hits his third point... The music shifts dramatically to a violin cover of Angel by Sarah McLachlan — poet laureate and collective traumatizer of Millennials and Gen Xers everywhere. He laughs off the seriousness, waving goodbye and tapping off his phone like a grandpa. The scene is bright and fun. It smells like lavender and citrus, sandalwood and green tea.

  3. All right, Gladys! Go on now... Here's the thing I've learned about sitting with all these quiet old ladies in the knitting circle... you keep your mouth shut and your ears open. The longer you sit in silence, the more those stories start spilling out and lemme just tell you: the tea is hot. The tea is abundant. And you don't have a cup large enough to catch it all. The THIIINNNGGGS I have heard some of these charming little women say! The stories! Sincerely, I have considered myself rather difficult to shock after so many years in a major US city around any number of colorful characters but nothing catches me off guard as much as a 5'1" arthritic granny laughing about throwing it back for Stones tickets. The delight. The joy. The unmitigated pleasure of knowing what lies beneath those blue rinses and sensible Ann Taylor Loft trousers. I need to know: what is the wildest story that's been slipped into the circle, unprompted, during one of your crafting nights? I just... please. Drama replenishes my electrolytes. I need the stories. #KnittingReel #KnittingReels #KnittingMeme #KnittingMemes #CrochetReel #CrochetReels #CrochetMeme #CrochetMemes #accessibility description: a short video of our mustachioed Crafter as he sits in a brightly lit room during a weekend crafting meet-up. Dressed in a pastel Coogi sweater of jade, purple, and sky blue stripes, he works slowly on his current WIP. As his fingers put stitches into the garnet-red shawl, an off-screen woman recounts a story of drugs, men, and the comfort of booze. No judgement here, folks, but the Crafter can't help but be taken aback by the story's vessel. So tiny! So proper! So small and unassuming! His wide eyes shift to the other women in the room, gauging their reactions. He sits still, waiting for more. Breath bated. The scene is lighthearted and silly. Not at all serious. It smells like freshly-baked pecan sandies, hot coffee, and those little quiches you can buy at Costco in the freezer section. The spinach ones, not the ham ones. You know. Joyful. Community. Whole.

  3. Couldn't wait any longer to tell you. I wrote a book! Knitting for Radical Self-Care: A Modern Guide is being published by @abramsbooks and will be available where books are sold Fall 2021!! 😭 ⁣ ⁣ Writing this book in 2020, it evolved into so much more than a knitting how-to pattern book. The weight of all we were experiencing together in every part of the world pushed me to create a body of work designed to be both a respite from our collective grief and an exploration of how to take better care of ourselves so we are more capable of taking care of each other. It's a liberation guide on how to harness our creativity and power. This is one of the patterns in the book called the Dawn Cowl inspired by Octavia Butler. A celebration of a new beginning in a future of our own making 🌱⁣ ⁣ Did you know I was a cliff jumper? I love high jumps into deep bodies of water. My approach to life in this moment is very much like one big leap just as the light fills the sky. My heart is so open, adrenaline pumping, excited for the journey back to shore. And it was this project that encouraged me to take the leap and go for my wildest dreams. ⁣ ⁣ I am on that shore. The fullest, most joyous and creative version of myself is awaiting me there. I'm using every stroke I’ve learned to reach her. She's always been here calling to me, encouraging me to rest, writing to me, sitting with me as I knit. When I ask for help she's always been there with a mantra. I wrote this book for her. I wrote this book for you. And I am rooting for you to make it. For those of us finding our way back to being with ourselves, to rediscovering our purpose, our history and our passions. ⁣ ⁣ I wrote this book to remind you that you are your own lighthouse, bright and necessary, guiding yourself to shore 🌊
