  1. What have I learned from a week on mute? Inspired by @worthnotwaste . 1. Black should start with a capital B when referring to the race . 2. The term BIPOC means Black, Indigenous and People of Color . 3. Saying POC when you are intentionally referring to Black people is harmful . 4. I would not have found as many Black accounts if others had not shared or promoted them . 5. Intent vs. Impact. Some people intend to do good though did not have good information first. It is ok to mess up, we all do, if you try to right the wrong . 6. If it feels wrong or you are only doing something because it’s trendy like posting a black square, pause & consult with your gut & or educate yourself about the intent of the movement before you post something on social . 7. I re-learned how closely racism is tied to environmental injustice . 8. Some people process & act in different ways than me. Some share nothing because they are keeping their research to themselves. While some others process in ways like posting business as usual which I found very insensitive #unfollow . 9. I love clean, sustainably packaged skincare though I only own 2 Black-owned skincare products @organicbath & @africanbotanics . 10. @ajabarber explained many companies posted Performative support with 0 plans to make any internal policy changes . 11. I learned how media draws attention to certain community issues over others due to racism & politics . 12. It’s legal for cops to rape women in their custody in 35 states in the USA . 13. Across the USA police are given the largest portion of municipal budgets. I encourage you to write your city councilors asking to reallocate some funding to community services . 14. I discovered & supported @frugalbooks, the ONLY Black-Owned bookshop in Boston . 15. A gf @anniebboyd said you cannot be a feminist & not support Black Lives. @blackafnetflix talks about this, it’s hilarious & informative! Thanks to another gf, @jessfinessedhomes for the rec . 16. I’ve been racist describing people by their race in a story. It’s unnecessary & does not paint a clearer picture to the listener. I’m sorry & promise to check myself & others . We sow the seeds now for a better future
