My favorite garden mulch! . Over the years I've tried many different types of mulch for my garden. Here's my pros and cons lists for the mulches that I have available to me! 1. Wood chips- Pros: fabulous for choking out grass in pathways and building up a forest floor for permaculture style food forests with transplanted perennials etc. Cons: Bulky to get either delivered or in bags. Different shred options can make it hard to start tender young plants in. Can harbor termites or tree disease if sourced from an unknown arborist. 2. Dead leaves- Pros: FREE if you have time to take your yard or your neighbors yard in the fall. Helps feed the fungal network of your soil and is easy to spread. Cons: Blows away easily if you get any sort of wind unless you shred them really well and keep wet for

What to plant for Fall RIGHT NOW in TX! . Did you know you can replant most of your spring garden right now in Central TX and similar regions in the south? Yup! . Most brassicas and leafy greens will do better started inside right about now BUT here are 10 things you can direct sow right out into the garden! 1. White or Irish potatoes- Mulch well and water deeply while daytime temps are high, a little shade goes a long way with these guys as well! 2. Sweet Corn- plant in full sun to get as quick of a headstart in growth as possible! Mulch to conserve soil moisture and feed with lots of nitrogen! 3.
