Her writing is tender and natural, making for a true comfort read.⁣ ⁣ Polly’s journey is somewhat predictable here; when a DNA test is given as a birthday gift by her bookclub stirs up questions. But what made this so heartwarming and enjoyable were the people who surrounded her along the way. She has a supportive husband, and I loved the open dialogue between her and her brother. I absolutely adored (and envied) her book club, who are her closest of friends. ⁣ ⁣ Besides the DNA mystery, the characters are going through real-life struggles: cancer, parental dementia, teenage troubles, infertility, mother-daughter strife, grief, and more. Quindlen handles these topics with sensitivity, so the subjects don’t darken the book. Instead, you get the overwhelming feeling of friendship and family, and of how, together, they can push through tears and hurt to find joy and laughter. ⁣ ⁣ 🎧 Kristen Sieh’s narration felt perfect for Polly. It was warm, inviting, with a touch of humor. It was a wonderful pairing with Quindlen’s easy, natural narrative. After seeing so many of my favorite book reviewers love it, I had to listen to this. ⁣ ⁣ An absolute gem of a book about books, that shines light on the power of books, the impact of independent bookshops, and the beauty of love.⁣ ⁣ Tilly is grieving the profound loss of her husband Joe when a local bookshop owner calls with a surprising gift. Joe had chosen a book for each month to help Tilly navigate her first year of grief. The books were so purposeful, and with Tilly’s healing, happiness, and growth in mind, it made my heart want to burst.⁣ ⁣ The story itself is emotional as it deals with grief, yet it is so cozy, heartwarming, and tender. While my head was in the clouds about how meaningful Joe’s curated book list was, I was also rooting for Alfie and his bookshop, which he inherited after his dad passed away, but it is currently struggling. ⁣ ⁣ 𝘐 𝘢𝘥𝘮𝘪𝘵, 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘣𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵. ⁣ ⁣ Zadeiah Campbell-Davies does a beautiful job narrating; her British accent and calm, soothing voice fit Tilly’s sweet personality so well.
