Every time I hear about a city we are losing in Sudan, a displacement of our people to find safety, and the repeated experience of moving from one region to another, I am reminded of the psychological diaspora we endure. There is no safe place anymore. Whenever I read the news, and follow the stories of family and friends, I return to my archives that I photographed in Sudan, I contemplate the country and wonder what these places look like now, how the war changed them, and what is the fate of all those I met and photographed. I contemplate and find no answers except that the Sudan that I know... that I love exists in my pictures, and it no longer has a place in this brutal world.

  3. 2/3"We were trying to make a phone call to figure out which road to follow as we thought we were lost in the middle of nowhere." I was on my way on a field mission to the areas affected by the recent rain and floods with one of the youth initiatives on September 12, 2022, in the countryside of Tendelti in White Nile state, when I met Abdullah Adam, a 14 years old boy from a village called Al-Adara. Abdullah works in agriculture and harvested crops. Four years ago, his father left the family and went to Khartoum to work and they never heard from him again, Abdullah believes that he escaped. Sometimes he works with his uncle, who took care of him, in a small pickup vehicle. They transport people from the other villages to Tendelti during the rainy season where we met. Because of the violent treatment and punishment, Abdullah decided to leave the school before finishing the third grade of secondary school. I connected with Abdullah because his story reminded me of my struggles with school and the beating. In those days, I hated school and was afraid to go, I couldn't even tell my family that I wanted to leave school. Abdullah and many children are victims of our education system, and the economic conditions forced upon them..
