Welcome back! This week we make our way out of a beautiful farm stay on the Kolan River with our Next Gen Ranger and Network RV caravan, but the weather quickly turns wet and wild. We head into Bargara, a coastal town near Bundaberg QLD, where we cool off with a swim as the tide heads out — an absolute beautiful spot despite the incoming weather. Bryce whips up his famous Mc Connole burgers for dinner, secret recipe and an absolute treat. While in town we visit Macadamias Australia, home to a huge macadamia farm, delicious treats and a great little café. Then things turn crazy. We experience one of the wildest storms in over 6 years of full-time travel. With recorded winds reaching 180km/h, our caravan awning rips apart and chaos erupts across the caravan park. Luckily, we had moved sites earlier, otherwise a falling tree branch could have gone straight through our caravan. After the storm, we leave Bundaberg and head south to Trinity Islands Caravan Park near Hervey Bay. This spot is incredible, with a man-made lake for swimming, kayaking and relaxing. Juice our cavoodle loves paddling in the kayak before settling in by the fire, and Chelsea finishes the day with a delicious lasagne pasta bake as we finally get to relax after a hectic few days. Welcome back! This week we leave Uluru and ayers rock campground and make our way to Kings Canyon with our Next Gen Ford Ranger and Network RV caravan. We pull up at the Kings Canyon Resort, set up and then check out the park. Dropping juice off in the caravan we go for a look out to Kathleen Springs, a short walk into a waterhole with some history along the way. At the resort they have a happy hour bar which is dog friendly perfect to sit back and watch sunset although we didn't quite get one, with a good view of the Light Towers. We are watched and followed on the way back to the van by some dingoes which are lurking around the camp not scared of people at all.. We cook up a carbonara to prepare for the next day and keep spotting the locals. Next up is the Kings canyon rim walk, possibly our favourite walk in Australia and in conditions we've never seen before, a tough climb to the top but worth it to stroll around the top of the canyon! Along the way there are lookouts and gorges to check out too. Chelsea is bribed to keep going on the walk a little trick from when she was younger. Leaving kings canyon we get a heap of rain so taking any shortcuts to Alice Springs is out of the question. Parking up at the Discovery Park we head over to Alice Springs Brewery for a drink and dinner. A trip to a cafe in Todd Mall with juice for breakfast and a coffee then off to the reptile park for a look around. Welcome back! This week we’re still based at the Lazy Lizard in Pine Creek and heading out to explore the southern end of Kakadu National Park – and it does not disappoint. First stop: Maguk Waterfall – after a rough track in, it’s a short walk before we cool off in the crystal-clear water. Totally worth it. Next: Gunlom Falls – finally reopened after being closed for six years. After letting the tyres down for the dirt road, we reach the campground and tackle the 1.5 km staircase walk to the top. The reward is one of the best natural infinity pools in the Northern Territory with incredible views over Kakadu. From there we make our way to Katherine to restock supplies, deal with the busy caravan traffic, and experience some less-than-considerate parking. To finish the day, we camp beside a WWII site, cook up a feast on the OzBraai, and enjoy a night under the stars.
