• T U E S D A Y • P U B D A Y •⁣ ⁣ Happy Tuesday, everyone, and more importantly, Happy New Book Day!! We’re in the back half of summer, and that hasn’t stopped the onslaught of new books, a bevy of which hit bookshelves today. It’s a week to celebrate some stranger, left-of-center titles in the marketplace, and I’m particularly excited about THE DEADING by Nicholas Belardes, THE DISSONANCE by Shaun Hamill, THE BOOK OF ELSEWHERE by China Meiville and Keanu Reeves, and NICKED by MT Anderson. All sounds extremely unique and a little left-of-center.⁣ ⁣ Speaking of left-of-center: it took me about 100 pages to get into John Fram’s latest, NO ROAD HOME, but once I was in…oh man, was I in. This is a very well-done gothic thriller about a young father who marries into a televangelist family, only to uncover deep and VERY dark secrets about his new family. Fram is well-known for his last book, the queer Friday Night Lights-coded THE BRIGHT LANDS, and no surprise that HOME explores similar themes of identity and queerness and…southern hospitality. The book is maybe 50-100 pages too long, but the ending is so strong and well-earned. There are so MANY new books publishing this week, and I’m only featuring a small percentage of them…12 books I was able to get my hands on before they officially hit bookshelves today. Of today’s featured titles, the books I’m most excited about include: -THIS INEVITABLE RUIN: fun fact…as much as I rave about all things DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL, I haven’t actually finished the series. I’m still deep (DEEP!) into book seven, which is a 1000+ page chonker that has taken me legit months to get through on audio. It’s so dense and so enjoyable and there are soooo many characters, so I’m taking my sweet time with it. But it’s officially available in hardcover today, so grab your copy and complete the collection (so far)… -ONE OF US by Dan Chaon: I featured this historical horror thriller set against the backdrop of a traveling carnival yesterday. Check out that post for more info on this perfect fall read. -WE LOVE YOU, BUNNY: I freakin’ loved Mona Awad’s 2021 novel BUNNY…about deranged sorority girls dabbling in witchcraft. It was so dark and twisted and laugh-out-loud funny (drink every time they say Bunny), and I can’t tell you how excited I am about a sequel. In addition to those three books, we’ve got new Ian McEwan, new Kiran Desai, a sequel to a Holly Black fantasy novel, new Ken Follett about Stonehenge, a new out-of-the-box mystery from Janice Hallett, and more!!
