  2. "Honestly… I didn't expect to feel this liberating with my hair cut off! I feel ridiculously confident and empowered, and proud to have a shaved head in a time when loving yourself is a rebellious act. People are still pretty hung up on having longer hair, but with more representation, I feel like we've really influenced a shift. 
My Hair…
It represented so much more then just cutting of my hair;
it represented cutting off from the societal standard of beauty,
it represented cutting off my past,
it represented cutting off the Emma I thought I was,
it represented a shield that I portrayed to hide the real me at times. I had no idea how much I used to hide behind my hair before shaving it off. Now the shield is gone, and when I look in the mirror, interact with people, or go in public, it's the most raw version of myself I´ve ever found. It feels like the truest form of myself and I like it! I don't plan to stay shaved forever, but I it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Literally cutting myself off from everything I was, to be everything I am. I can genuinely say that ¨I will never be the same."   2. Mesoamerican Tent-making Bat (Uroderma convexum) photographed during my last visit to #escapetosylvan . These bats are called tent-making bats because they modify leaves to make their roosts. Scientists have observed tent-making bats using at least 8 different architectural styles to modify leaves and Mesoamerican Tent-making Bats are known to use 7 of the 8 styles, more than any other bat. It is also the species of tent-making bat which scientists have observed more bats underneath a single leaf than any other and that was 60 bats! These bats are fruit specialists and they are very effective seed dispersers, thus providing an essential service for the forest. They belong to the leaf-nosed bat family (Phyllostomidae) which is Costa Rica’s largest and most diverse bat family.   3. I couldn’t decide which of these bats were cuter, so I decided to post both. These two Black Mastiff Bats (Molossus nigricans) were captured while we were visiting #escapetosylvan . These beautiful bats roost in buildings, hollow branches, palm leaves and crevices, often in fairly large colonies.
