  3. Realised from some dms that Iā€™ve been sharing small snippets of my daughterā€™s epilepsy journey, but have never really given you guys an official update. So hereā€™s a little summary šŸ„° Just over a year ago (Jan 2023), our wild middle child/eldest daughter, Manawanui, was diagnosed with Epilepsy. It started off with a few seizures in Dec 2022 (which initially we werenā€™t sure if they were actually seizures) that quickly began to increase in frequency and duration. After a trip to ED and an eeg test, we got the epilepsy diagnosis and began our journey with medication. Itā€™s a journey because treating epilepsy with medication can be quite a unique process as not all medications work and there can be a lengthy process to find the right dosage. (We were increasing on a bi weekly basis for a long time). We had an MRI in July last year which showed Manawanui has what looks to be a focal cortical dysplasia on her right temporal lobe - basically a spot on her brain that didnā€™t form correctly. This spot/lesion correlates with her seizure presentation and eeg report so we can say with confidence that this is what is causing her seizures. With this news, and because up until late August last year, Manawanui was still having about 1-2 seizures a fortnight while on medication, we found out that she is a candidate for neuro surgery. Neuro (brain) surgery has a really good chance of helping Manawanui live a seizure free life without medication, but obviously comes with its risks. That being said, since October last year, we feel that we may have found the right medication and dose to control her seizures šŸ˜… To help us make an informed decision and learn more about her brain, this week sheā€™s spent the week in starship hooked up to an eeg machine and under medical supervision we reduced medication for them to observe and record a seizure. It will be a while before we get the full report from this week, but once it is ready, weā€™ll discuss all the pros and cons in more detail with the neuro doctor and go from there. Overall, my husband and I are feeling super positive šŸ„° Ultimately, we will have to make a pretty big decisionā€¦ (cont in commentsšŸ‘‡šŸ¼)

Iā€™m excited to keep growing my biz along side my babes & this time bring more women with me along the way. A huge theme for me this year has been collaboration and leaning into what we can create āœØtogetherāœØ instead of doing everything solo. Itā€™s been such a nice change of pace + mindset. I often feel throughout pregnancy I get a huge rush of creative energy. Like every thing grows. My capacity, my belly, my ideas, my energy. Last time I remember I was teaching yoga at the birth centre, running mums and bubs, private coaching clients, + crystal sound eventsā€¦ This time I feel I am in a new season. Creating content with women genuinely who inspire me, spending time with my son + creating sound events with friends šŸ„° Amazing to see how life shifts over time. Im also SO proud of my body. It has been a pretty demanding few years physically. 3 years ago I was pregnant at the exact same time with Koa. Clearly I love a Winter baby. Followed by exclusively breastfeeding for 18 monthsā€¦. An explant surgery then baby 2. Some days I feel like my body has changed so much in the past 3 years. And still she continues to nourish me + future babes. One more baby + post partum to go.   2. Baby's here! I'm pleased to welcome our newest member of the team Abigail Mary Fae McMillan I'm not going to post much baby content on this page. I try to keep it all tattoo related but this is a big life event that I'd like to share with you all. Still not 100% sure when I'll be coming back to work. Could be a few months or more. She is very happy and healthy but it'll still take a lot of time to settle into the new normal and routine. I'm in no hurry to give up this precious time with her.   3. Good News Everyone! I'm excited to announce as of today I am 14 weeks pregnant. we are expecting our baby mid December. This means I'm going to be making small changes to gradually reduce my work load and stress levels. I'll be taking an extra day off to catch up on admin during the week. It is important to me that I am still giving you my best work so I will no longer be working late nights, Sundays or Mondays. I've been getting super tired at the end of the day often going to bed as soon as I get home. This makes drawing designs very difficult because I'd usually do them in the evening after work. You will still get your designs ahead of your booking but please be patient with me. Lastly I am planning on taking maternity leave from the 1st of December. This is my first pregnancy and I have no idea how I will be feeling or dealing with being masave by that stage. I don't know how long I will take off but I will gradually come back to work by doing smaller flash pieces and continuing with existing pieces.

Back in November 2024, I got to officiate my first wedding for my nephew & godson @tommygun20nz and his beautiful fiancĆ© @leeohnee. šŸ’ Not only was it a huge honour and privilege to marry these two beautiful human beings, it was because of them I went through the process of becoming a Registered Celebrant.   3. Today is a significant milestone. It marks four weeks today post-op from my double heart bypass & an aortic valve replacement. I went for a heart check-up and was immediately admitted & booked for open heart surgery. The cause was radiation treatment 28 years ago when I had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer which caused significant scarring. I am grateful and very thankful for the extraordinary surgeons, doctors, consultants, registrars, nurses, health care assistants, specialists, attendants, cleaners & kitchen staff who all worked together to provide a high level of patient care. A huge shout-out to the ā€œA-teamā€ of my family who have supported & walked this journey with me. To @squeakdee - I donā€™t have enough words to express the love & gratitude I have juggling being my wife, my nurse, my soulmate & my best friend. Iā€™m sorry for the scare, spending a bit longer on the ventilator, a bit longer in ICU & all the other medical complications which have slowed my recovery. A wise man once told me to never count your money in the bank, you need to count your friends as they will make your life richer in many ways. He was so right. Your messages of support, expressions of love & care for Sharlene and I has been overwhelming. From daily care packages, cooked meals, baking, mowing lawns, house cleaning, fresh flowers and much more, we canā€™t thank you all enough for being there for us ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹ā¤ļøšŸ˜˜ I am so grateful for being given another chance at life. After almost 11 years with the best team there is at Anton Berry Construction @berry.anton I made the decision for a brief change and to jet across the ditch for a stint. No words can describe how grateful and fortunate I was to get taken on as a young 16-17yr old boy from Anton and Chantelle and developed into an above average grown man being taught not only about building and business but also all things that life has to throw at me. From opening our doors, to surviving a pandemic just 6 months later, smashing it out at Vegan Vibes and other events, winning an award and so much more. There has been literal blood, sweat and tears poured into this journey but through it all the most amazing thing has been YOU, our customers and supporters. For years, I spoke about my dream to have a vegan cafe. I did it. Left the security of my job, put everything on the line and created a brand that not only was the first vegan cafe to hit the Tron but that also created a beautiful community of like minded people that could come and enjoy our amazing food, but also our yarns and energy āš” We've made some lifelong friends out of this and its incredibly special. Equally as important as our customers, is the team who made this all work. Sarah, Renee and more recently Chantal. You all made this possible and helped create this amazing place of vegan food to die for and genuine hospitality. I couldn't have wished for better bunch of gals to do this with. I know we are leaving a huge gap in the market, for many reasons, but feel really content with my decision to close the doors.   1. In a few days time, Manawanui, my beautiful 4 year old daughter, will be undergoing neuro surgery. This is to remove a focal cortical dysplasia from her right temporal lobe which all signs point to being the cause of her seizures. Seizures that to date, we havenā€™t been able to fully control via medication over the almost 2 year journey weā€™ve had with her epilepsy. Itā€™s pretty big and scary, but the surgery has about a 70% chance of her being able to be seizure free without medication. We trust the surgeons and feel the alternative (no surgery/continuing as we are) is scarier. If anything, we just feel extremely grateful to live in a time and country where this is even possible ā¤ļøšŸ™ŒšŸ»šŸ‰ Weā€™ve been on the waitlist for a little while now, but were only given about 2 weeks notice for this date, so I just want to thank all my clients for their patience with me as Iā€™ve changed sessions around and been delayed in responses. Youā€™ve all been so amazing & I know you will all continue to be as we navigate Manawanuiā€™s recovery over the next month too.
