  1. This is Dolly. Dolly was caught out in a bad thunder storm the evening before we summited Mount Whitney. Soaking wet and frozen she could no longer walk. After a 20 minute descent from the summit I stopped to take a photo at a junction where two summit trails intersected. Just as I was about to leave along came a lady who said there was a woman who needed help on the opposite trail. Another PCT hiker who was just behind me took off down the mountain to inform the closest ranger station of the emergency (which was still a 4 hour descent away). Not really knowing what was going on I went over to have a look at the woman. Upon first glance I could tell she was in a serious state of hypothermia. Barely conscious and only able to tell me her name I knew we had to act fast. Not being able to move her legs we replaced her wet clothing items and moved her into two sleeping bags and two emergency blankets. I knew that the best way to save her was to use our own body warmth so we surrounded her for the next few hours and slowly watched her come more conscious. Finally the sun broke over a gap in the mountain so we lifted her into the only spot of sun there was. After 4 or so hours two rangers came to the rescue. They had already started the climb before they were informed of our situation because they were on another mission looking for a body of a missing person. Dolly had been sitting between two rocks for the past 13 hours throughout the night at an elevation of 13,451 feet (4,100 metres) in her wet clothes. The fact that we found her still alive seems pretty remarkable. A special thanks to Marian, Rony, Emily, Patrick, & Snake Charmer who all helped greatly in this situation. Just to let you know the search & rescue had been informed of the situation but were too busy responding to another emergency. Dolly began walking out with the rangers until they got to a safe place for a helicopter rescue 🚁 #pct #pct2019 @vybrantme We are all sending our love & hope you have recovered well ❤️

  2. THE PLAN?! Kia ora again Whanau! Here’s a visual representation of what we’re getting up to on the big day. We are planning to start from the lakefront in Qt at 8pm on the 31st. Heading from there up to the single cone summit of Remarks (weather permitting). Coming back down the Remarks access road would be an excellent time to join in for anyone who wants some downhill action. From there at what we estimate will be around 3-4am we will be making the slog from Remarks to Coronet via Dalefield. We anticipate this section to be the most tedious and so if there are any night owls out there we’d love for you to join us for some Koreros. Cutting up Hot Rod (mtb track) and onto the access road we will be making a push for the summit of Coronet. We anticipate we will summit Coronet at around 10-11am before heading back down the access road and through Arthurs Point to make our final ascent up Ben Lomond. Ben Lomond is going to be the most tedious of all and this is where we want to encourage as many of you as possible to join on and get those deep Koreros flowing. We will aim to be at the summit of Lomond at 4-5pm before making the descent back down and finishing up in town around 6.30pm. While we appreciate many of you will be working, we’d absolutely love for you all to join in when you can whether that be before or after work. Bonus points if you take the day off 🤙 Here’s some estimated stats for the nerds; Distance: 104km Vert: 5050m Mountains: 3 Legs: 4 Mana: through the roof!
