When I’d climb up a tree and you couldn’t be there with me you would get stressed out and when I came down you showed me how happy you were to have me on the ground with you again Or how when we went swimming every time you would force me to hold you in my arms in the water the second your paws didn’t touch the ground Or how when we went on walks you’d always walk politely beside me and look up at me every few seconds Or how whenever I went from upstairs to downstairs you’d be there right behind me following me every time Or how I could never go to the bathroom without you reminding me you were there and wanted to give me a kiss and let me rub your paw Or how when I was training you it almost was too easy because how smart and eager you were Or how anyone who met you instantly fell in love with you because you were so loving and sweet Or how you’d bark at us every time me and my brothers hit each-other when we were play fighting to “break it up” then kiss us after Growing up I had very little. But you showed me I had truly had everything I needed I have spent every possible moment with this dog since I was 11. People wonder why I love her so much and it’s quite simple. I never had much..but I always had her. She was my best friend. We could talk about all of this but I’d like to talk about how you made it your job to put a smile on my face every day since I was 11. Thank you for all of the love and support you gave by attending or donating at our Radiance and Resilience Event in support of Martha House Women’s Shelter. It literally takes a village!! I loved seeing our community come together to support and promote such a wonderful cause while just being able to have a GREAT TIME laughing, feasting and just simply enjoying each others company. I wanted to share this moment with those who donated and supported the cause through monetary donation or toiletries and feminine hygiene supplies. I just got super emotional thinking about the help, love and generosity. I also just loved seeing the joy on the women and children at the shelter. It made me feel so overwhelmed that I cried in the car for a several minutes after. It was a privilege to be able to see joy from other women 💕💕💕.   3. Both accurate reviews 1 day apart. When someone visits the Chicken Shack for the first time we do our best to steer them away from ordering Rony’s Special or anything with hot sauce. Our hot sauce is really hot!! 🔥 The medium sauce is spicier than Frank’s Red Hot. Since we use fresh Scotch Bonnet peppers that change from week to week, the spice level of the hot and medium will change as well. Our goal is serve you memorable meal for a fair price without compromise. We can give you a sample before you place order or ask for extra hot sauce on the side for total control! 💪 Earlier this week we had a very upset customer that didn’t think the Rony’s Special was worth the price without even trying the food 😞 The Rony’s Special isn’t a dish that’s commonly found in restaurants so please don’t order it unless you’re adventurous.   2. Surprise! M+D eloped at my studio🥂 In life, you’ll meet people who leave an everlasting impact on you. M+D are two of them. What started as two complete strangers booking me has turned into the most incredible friendship I’m astronomically thankful for. We had been chatting for weeks about their wedding plans. It was less than two weeks away, everything was planned and set in stone at their Farm venue. Or, so we thought. Their venue cancelled on them a week before the wedding. All vendors were already booked & the date they planned on getting married held significance to them so they didn’t want to postpone. This threw a massive curveball, not to mention an extreme financial burden on them too. We tossed around the idea of doing an outdoor elopement, but the weather wasn’t looking too great. So I threw out the idea of eloping at my studio & the rest is history.

Crazy? Maybe. I’ve never hosted any type of wedding before & had no idea what to expect. However with less than one week away I buckled down, teamed up w/ their awesome floral team @cijimarieblooms & we transformed the studio into a dreamy Moroccan elopement that looks like something out of a magazine. @audrajacombs officiated the ceremony & I couldn’t have hand picked a better officiant to fit the vibe if I tried. Audra, we adore you.

The icing on the cake was being able to do this with one of my favourite humans @aarondanielfilms who was hired as their videographer & just so happens to be my right hand man I’ve worked with for 5+ yrs now. There’s no one else I would have wanted to share this experience with. No guests, just D+M, Aaron, Audra & myself present - we managed to get these two hitched on their original wedding date. Words will never do justice to explain how magical this day was. D+M, you are two of the most deserving souls for something like this, and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. Your love radiates pure bliss, and being able to translate your love into art has been an incredible honour.   2. I'm deeply saddened to hear that Dale passed away yesterday. Swipe to see my photographic tribute. I always enjoyed running into him on the streets of Hamilton. The street preacher was a leader in our community for helping the unhoused and those living on the margins. I have fond memories of chatting with Dale. I met him once for a cappuccino, and we talked about his life. Another time, he told me he just got a camera, and we talked at length about making photos. I remember being gutted to hear he had cancer and how I told him about my diagnosis. Children entertainer, Mr. Rogers said, "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping" Dale was one of those helpers! Thank you, Dale, for your service and commitment to your brothers and sisters. The community will feel his loss deeply.   3. For decades, I have been photographing the Mennonites in Southern Ontario, Canada. I am fascinated by their culture and religion. Many of my images are timeless captures that I made, respectively. I am inspired by the work of Mennonite photographers David L. Hunsbergerr and Carl Heibert, who  documented their community. Both men have passed on, but their images continue to speak about their community. Another huge inspiration is Canadian Magnum photographer Larry Towell. Please check their work out.   2. Save this for later and don’t be afraid to try—this is one of those recipes that feels as special as they taste. Happy Father's Day...if you know, you know. 😊🙏🏻🇮🇹 Zeppole di San Giuseppe (12 large zeppole) Pastry: • 250 ml cold water • 200 g butter, cut into cubes • 5 g salt • 250 g flour (00 or all-purpose) • 7 eggs (about 350 g without shell) Method: In pot over medium heat, add water, butter, and salt. Stir gently as it warms to melt butter. As soon as mixture reaches a boil, add flour at once. Mix immediately and keep stirring for a couple of minutes until smooth and lump-free. Dough will begin to pull away from sides of pot and will form smooth ball. A slight film will form on bottom of stainless steel pot. Transfer dough to bowl and let cool for a few minutes. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. For the last egg, go slowly—you may not need all of it. The dough should be glossy, thick, and pipeable. It should hold its shape and form a “V” when lifted with spatula. Or wooden spoon stands up straight when placed in middle of dough. May need to add extra half egg. Better to be on the thick side than too soft. Line baking tray (or double tray) with parchment paper. Pipe dough into circles, two layers, using a star tip. Bake at 400°F for 15–20 minutes, then reduce to 375°F and bake for another 20 minutes, or until golden and puffed. Do not open oven before 30 minutes. Baked dough should feel light and airy. Remove and let cool completely in a draft-free area. Do not cover. You can also let them cool in oven with door slightly open. Once cooled, slice and fill with pastry cream or cannoli-style ricotta. Top with Amarena cherries, dust with icing sugar, and serve. (Recipe for filling coming soon.) Storage: Filled shells can be stored in the refrigerator, lightly covered for a few hours. Unfilled shells: store in an airtight container for up to 1 day (re-crisp in oven if needed) For longer storage: freeze unfilled shells in an airtight container.   1. Okay angels, time to talk about rejection. This spring, I received my second rejection from the Canada Council in the Research and Creation stream for my Depression Cooking manuscript. It hurt. After the first rejection I was determined to get the grant the second time around. I attended grant writing workshops, spoke with program officers, took all of the advice I could get, even paid a pal to edit the thing and give me feedback. And still a no. Despite knowing that rejection is a part of moving through the art world, that didn’t soften the sting. As artists we often share our successes on this app, but we rarely share our rejections. In case it resonates, I want to say, ‘hey I’m a reject too!’ If you have also been rejected, whether from a funding body, from an exhibition opportunity, a publishing opportunity, a residency or an award you can still do the thing. You can film the video, write the short story collection, or pursue the series of paintings. I wrote the manuscript and am now editing it. The opinions of two juries don’t really have much bearing on whether or not I’m going to do it. I’m doing it. Depression Cooking will become a book without the Canada Council. I’m going to need to hustle to pay my bills, but I am no stranger to hustle. Thanks to @sanaahumayun at @makingspace.yeg for the mug so I can openly spill the tea on the internet.   2. As an artist who writes and makes art about food I’m compelled to join in the coordinated boycott of Loblaws for the month of May. I don’t need to be an economist to know that the cost of my groceries have skyrocketed while my income has remained the same. Weekly grocery runs that cost me $50 in 2014 now cost me up to $150-$200. I know that many are unable to afford this increase. I don’t believe that food is a privilege. Food is a right. We all need food to survive. It feels impossible to talk about food without condemning the starvation being used as a tool of gen0cide in G@z@. Likewise I condemn the grocery CEOS in so-called Canada lining their pockets while every day people struggle to put food on the table. There is enough food for us all. It is only capitalism and the capitalists that benefit from this system that try to convince us otherwise. Do not eat their lies. The boycott of Starbucks has proven to us that boycotts work. I am reminded of this line from my student union days: there is strength in numbers. Please boycott with me.
