  3. CHOP FOR ROB ✂️💇🏻‍♀️ WARNING: This post may be triggering for some people. It involves assault and medical references. It’s been 5 years since I last visited the barber and now the time has come to finally have this mop chopped! I’ve sported every awful haircut along the way (evidence attached) but oddly, it’s become a huge part of my identity and I will miss it. In 2018 I decided to start growing my hair for the purpose of cutting it for charity. I didn’t know when, what or who I’d be raising the funds for, or maybe even donating hair to, but it seemed like a good way to do my bit for those in need. On February 26th of this year, my brother-in-law, Rob Ludlow, was the victim of a serious assault which left him fighting for his life. He spent two months in hospital, initially undergoing a craniectomy to relieve the pressure on his brain. After being weaned off the ventilator and being able to breathe on his own, Rob had a long stay in critical care, before being moved into the neurosurgery ward. He has also undergone a tracheotomy, a Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) procedure where a feeding tube is placed through the abdominal wall and into the stomach, and recently a cranioplasty to replace the skull that was removed to ease pressure on his brain. Rob has gone from being a capable, fit, independent man to someone who’s now having to fight for the basics most of us take for granted, like walking, eating, and talking. Due to memory loss, he may never get back the milestones missed with his two-year-old son and baby daughter, and countless other cherished moments preceding his attack. (Continued in comments)…

  1. On the 27th of November I will be attempting to skate 100kms around Auckland in one day to raise awareness and money for men’s mental health as a part of @movember. We lose 60 men to suicide every hour across the world. In the last year New Zealand alone had 538 suspected self-inflicted deaths. On average, 9 kiwi men take their own lives each week. These numbers are too high and it honestly breaks me that they do exist. But life as we know it can unfortunately get hard. We need to be there for each other. Create an environment for people to be able to feel comfortable to speak about what’s going on in their life’s. Catch your friends when they fall, pick them up and help journey with them. And when it’s too big to fight, seek help. I’d be nothing without the people that picked me up when I needed it most. I’m forever grateful for the community of people I have around me, that support me. I guess the only other thing that gets me through things like this is my skateboard. That’s why I do this. I skate around Auckland for this awareness because skateboarding and my friends is what gets me through this. The people we have lost, the people struggling, for my own struggling, I do it all for them. I’ll post more of the actual details of the skate in an upcoming post. But for now, these were my thoughts. The link is in the bio if you’d like to donate. I want to raise $10,000 this year, every little bit counts. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, TELL YOUR FRIENDS YOU LOVE THEM. @movember @mo_aotearoa Kyle.

  3. On Sunday I skated 100km around Auckland with my best friend @elijah_whyte for @movember We did this to raise awareness and fund to help support men’s mental health and suicide prevention, aswell as prostate cancer and testicular cancer. This was by far one of the hardest days of my life. From the constant cramps, to torrential rain, all the way to having to change the route last minute due to the safety of the skate and everything in between. To be able to say I skated 100km in a day for this cause is something I’m really proud of. It wasn’t easy. The rain caused many problems. It resulted in us having to cut out a lot of hills we usually would face and replace it with basically looping my street for the final 8 or so kms. But In the end we were able to get there. I want to say a massive thank you everything that support us. To everyone that shared the posts, to the people that came and met us along the way, to everyone that donated money. Thank you, endlessly. Thank you to @vansnewzealand @pxxn @backdoor_nz @publiclibraryshowroom @stemdistributionltd @asuwere.co @alvinza___ @everydaysolitude for everything you did for me this month. And lastly. Thank you to @elijah_whyte For pushing me further and further. For always believing in me and being my right hand man not only for the 3 years we’ve been doing this but also in life. I don’t take our friendship for granted. There are still a few more days of movemeber left, so if you want to donate the link is still open. I once again thank you and appreciate everything everyone’s done for me this year. Kyle.
