  1. APPLE PIE COOKIES 🥧 ☃️🎄 combining my family’s favourite holiday dessert (grandma’s apple pie) with cookies to create an entirely new recipe that I will pass down to my kids 🥰😌! With an apple pie filling and pie crust top, these beauties are easy to whip up thanks to my @Vitamix Ascent Gold Label, which is on sale for Vitamix’s holiday sale going on right now! #VitamixPartner #LovedForLifetimes #MyVitamix #VitamixHoliday 🍪 Cookie Base: 1/4 cup vegan butter 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 tbsp milk 1 tsp vanilla 1 cup flour 1/2 tsp baking soda  1/2 tsp baking powder Pinch of salt  🍎 Apple filling: 2 apples, peeled and chopped into bite-size pieces 1 tbsp sugar 1/2 tsp cinnamon 3 tbsp water 🥧 Pastry: 1/2 cup flour 2 tsp sugar 2 tbsp vegan butter 2 tbsp cold water  1. Preheat oven to 350F.  2. Cream together vegan butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in milk and vanilla. Add in the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt and stir to make a dough. Place in the refrigerator.  3. Add apple filling ingredients to a small pot on the stove on medium and cook, stirring frequently, about 10 minutes until soft. Add half to @Vitamix blender bowl cup and blend until smooth. Add the remaining unblended pieces and stir together.  4. Meanwhile, make the pastry: stir together flour and sugar. Cut in the butter to make a crumbly mixture. Add the water and stir to make a dough. Roll out the pastry on a clean surface and use a glass or 3 inch round cookie cutter to make “pie crusts”.  5. Scoop 3 tbsp of cookie dough and roll into a ball. Use a measuring spoon to make a divot in the center. Add a spoonful of pie filling and place a pie crust on top. Repeat with remaining dough.  6. Bake for 10 minutes, then increase oven to 375 F and bake 4 minutes until golden brown.

  1. Steak and Butter Gal (can’t tag her since she pre-emptively blocked me before I ever even made content about her) was on @jubileemedia’s recent “vegan vs. meat eaters” debate and made numerous false and/or unfounded claims, including that soy “really ruins your hormones.” Well, we have one recent systematic review and meta-analysis of 40 randomized controlled trials, including 3285 women and they did not identify a significant effect on any measure of estrogenicity, including estrogen levels, other hormones, and endometrial thickness. Also, a similar meta-analysis including studies on men did not identify any notable changes in estrogen or testosterone levels. So, that definitely doesn’t support the claim that soy “really ruins your hormones.” Plus, long-term soy consumption has been associated with a REDUCTION in breast cancer and prostate cancer risk, as well as lower risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. So... she’s just making stuff up here. PS. If she actually did happen to quit consuming milk in the 12 days between her dairy post and the debate recording, I will happily retract the claim that “I don’t drink breast milk from a cow” was a lie… but given how many lies she has told, that seems unlikely. 2. Is red meat research confounded? When @HigherUpWellness lists a bunch of potential confounders like smoking, alcohol, weight, and lack of physical activity, to explain the association between red meat and cancer, he is suggesting that THOSE variables impact cancer risk. But how does he know that? The evidence we have for those causing cancer is not unlike the evidence we have for red meat. It’s largely in the form of prospective observational studies that adjust for confounding variables, and when the findings are consistent across studies done in different populations at a given dose, we can be confident in the results. Imagine if someone claimed that being sedentary won’t increase risk of cancer relative to being active because there’s never been a study on a sedentary population where everyone ate a strictly whole foods diet, didn’t smoke, didn’t drink any alcohol, etc. The fact of the matter is, just because something hasn’t been studied in every imaginable context, doesn’t mean it doesn’t have the effect we see in virtually every context it has been studied. It would actually be more reasonable to say “I don’t know if it has an effect in this context” rather than assuming it doesn’t have an effect. That’s just ridiculous. So when people make the claim that all these other variables explain the risk attributed to something they like, like red meat, they can’t have it both ways. They have to explain why the research on those other variables meets some threshold that the red meat research doesn’t. If they can’t, it suggests that they hold a double standard and their view of the science on any given topic just shifts with their bias.
