  2. Last week, I headed out to Lighthouse Park to catch the full moon. After watching the Dark Wizard docuseries a couple months ago, I was inspired by the shot of Dean Potter slacklining in front of a full moon. And thus sparked the idea. Searching around google for “full moon vancouver”, I came across a cool photo of the moonrise directly behind Mt. Baker and the Vancouver skyline. Sweet. I then used a combination of ChatGPT and @photopills to identify when the the full moon and its azimuth (compass direction) at the time of moon rise would line up right behind Mt. Baker. I specifically needed the moon to rise around sunset/sunrise/dusk time. Not the middle of the night, which would be too dark, and not during the middle of the day where the light isn’t as interesting. Given that full moon only happens 12-13 times a year and both the timing of its rise and its position along the horizon changes, this meant that there were only 2 good windows during the year to make that happen. In 2026, those two dates were April 30th & July 29th. Now the only thing that could foil the plans was cloud cover. On the days leading up, the forecast was showing decently clear skies, though a thin layer of cloud in the Mt. Baker direction. I put my chances at 80/20 And so, on July 29th, I headed out to the spot. There was a decent layer of cloud and haze in the Mt. Baker direction, so I wasn’t sure whether the moon would actually be able to penetrate that, but at 9:21pm, a faint glow started to appear behind Mt. Baker, and a short few minutes later, the giant orb of the moon peeked its way out… There’s a special satisfaction in capturing shots that can only be capture on specific days of the year. And using tools like Photopills to exactly predict what the positions of things will be. When the time comes, and you see exactly what you envisioned, that’s a pure hit of dopamine right there. And although I would have preferred clear skies, I think what nature gave on that night was still pretty cool! Fingers crossed for next year. shot at 400mm, f6.3, 1/5s, ISO 400 on @sonyalpha A7IV & @sigmacanada 100-400mm #photopills #vancouver #vancity #moonphotography

  3. Beautiful Vancouver 🫶 • feeling grateful to live in a city as stunning as this, surrounded by the ocean and the mountains. Living a 2 minute walk to the beach and a 20 minute drive away from the gateway to endless mountains to explore. Moving here in 2020, I could never have predicted what my life would become over the past 6 years. Looking back, it’s completely different from the one I lived in Toronto. The first couple years, though full of exciting adventures and new experiences, were also riddled with periods of loneliness. In part because it does take time to find your circle, but too be honest, also because I had a lot of internalized shame that often prevented me from truly deeply connecting with others. It took me years to start to realize that my capacity to connect with others is a direct reflection of my ability to connect and welcome all the parts of myself. And that there was a healthier and gentler way of relating to myself. And hence started the journey of getting in touch with my emotions. While I’m still very much on my personal discovery journey and working through a lot of patterns and fears, today I’m very grateful to say I’m surrounded by friends that I can be open with and who I deeply cherish and care for. Looking at these photos, I can’t help but think about the hundreds of thousands of people captured within these images, going about their lives in the city, wondering what beautiful tapestry of stories about their life journey they have to tell… #vancouver
