How to Cope with Childbirth 😰Pain is the number one fear of most women when they think about childbirth. 📚Prepping for the delivery of your baby often includes reading books, blogs, talking to friends and family members and sometimes taking a child birth class. Women have been delivering babies for thousands of years and there are three main concepts that can help with the pain in labour. 🫶🏼 ❤️Relaxation ❤️Rhythm & ❤️Rituals ❗️These are broad concepts that help women find purpose in their contractions. These can also give you a sense of control over your body during the sometimes very intense body and emotional sensations you can have during your labour.👀 📖Learning coping strategies that you and your support person can implement during your delivery is the best way for you to prepare for your delivery 🤰🏻 👩‍🏫As a childbirth educator, I teach expecting parents about strategies they can use at home or in the hospital or birthing suite that follow these three concepts. 3️⃣

WHITE NOISE AND SLEEP 🤓You’ve probably read loads of articles, or heard conversations with friends and family members about the use of white noise machines for baby sleep. 🧐You’ve probably also heard some of the myths including the most frequently used myth - that babies get “addicted” to white noise machines. 💥External noise can wake up our baby or child - and your white noise machine can help block that out and reassure your baby that they are still in their safe sleep space and they can comfort themselves back to sleep. 😴 ❗️White noise should be continuous and play all night and be no louder than 50 decibels to protect your babies hearing. If you’re not sure how loud it is - you can download a free app and measure the sound. 👶🏽White noise machines should be placed away from the baby (over 100 cm) and usually towards what you’re trying to block out. This could be something simple like noise from the kitchen, or a shared room wall. 🚽 🤩Lastly, your baby will not grow “addicted” to white noise. They are surrounded by an incredible amount of “noise” while you were carrying them and now that they’re out in the world, they can find comfort in a continuous sound like a hair dryer, or rain on the roof. 😎 💤The use of white noise can be used right from the beginning of sleep with your newborn. This can help your baby build an association with the sound and knowing it’s time for sleep. Think of it as building a sleep cue for your baby.
