  3. 🧡 Today I acknowledge Truth and reconciliation day. Reflecting on the harm that was caused by the system, remembering the children who never made it home, and acknowledging the generational affect that is has on the ones who live on. My indigenous heritage is something that I honestly do not know much about. This was something that could not be passed down through my family because well, my grandfather never really spoke about it. As a boy he experienced residential school, and had no connection to his real parents as he was adopted from a young age. A few years back he passed away, and I regret not asking him more about his past and our heritage. He was one of the most beautiful people I have ever known, his heart was always light and his love for nature was something I’ve always taken after. I believe that reconciliation can be a beautiful thing and can be done through love, compassion, and curiosity for generations to come. It is never too late to learn and it is certainly never too late to share love and compassion regardless of where you come from. 💛💛

  2. Friends, My newest record and heaviest effort to date, 'Everywhere I Used To Be' is out on @birthdaycakerecords now. I've been striving for the words to explain what this group of songs means to me, from their inception to the studio recordings. I spent long hours with them, wrestling with being seen this way. I laughed at self-fulfilling satire and poked fun at the lines of country music I've gotten comfortable playing with throughout my career. In a genre sometimes marred by its unwillingness to push for change, my intention with making a synth/pop-country record was definitely pointed.   2. Sharing a bunch of behind the scenes in making this plate for @ankorcanmore. Different angles so you can see the process and the space I make in. The clay is a gorgeous Canadian speckled stoneware, left raw with the edges torn purposefully to reflect the Canadian Rocky Mountains that surrounds the restaurant. Each plate took about 10-12 minutes to wheel throw, plus countless more to finish, finesse, dry, sand, glaze and fire. My favorite moments are when I get to see @chef.dannybeaulieu create his masterpieces in my dishes. It’s witnessing art meeting art. Making plateware for chefs is such a beautiful gift that I cherish deeply as an artist. I can’t believe I get the chance to live this dream ❤️

  3. I threw these two bottles to 18” tall. Unfortunately they were just shy of fitting in my kiln. Lying them down sidewise worked well for the first bisque fire. However this would not be possible after glazing due to risk of the glaze sticking to the shelves along with unwanted warping of the bottle itself when the clay particles soften at the higher heat. Thankfully the bisque fire shrunk them just enough to fit standing up for the final firing. In the end they are now a satisfying 16” tall. Also sharing a bit of my glazing process here. I like to keep these forms raw on the outside to show off the lovely speckled stoneware but still glazed on the inside for versatility of holding water and/or flowers.

  3. I went trail running with a teammate today and he reminded me of this anniversary. Hard to believe that this day was a year ago. I haven’t posted a lot about my experience at the Olympics. I have done so intentionally, because I often don’t know what to say. These results are a snapshot of a tumultuous journey that has consistently tested every piece of me. They are awards whose weight I have wrestled to understand and connect with. These medals lie curled in old socks on my dresser, because I have no idea what do with them. And when I think about the magnitude of the journey and years of concentric growth they embody… I laugh. When I look back a year ago, the memories of those weeks are blurry. They feel like someone else’s lifetime ago. But this moment, this first one, will stick with me; clearly and forever. I cried before the finish line, because I knew. I knew I would get to share something with the people I love. I owe a lot of thank-yous to those who helped get me to that starting line. But I owe so many more to those that caught me after. Those that have propped me up and pushed me forward. What a year it’s been. Thank you. 💛

  2. “Shouldn’t I feel happy? What is wrong with me? Why can’t I stop crying? I miss my pregnant belly. I feel empty. Why can’t I produce enough milk? I feel like a failure. All I do is feed him. How am I supposed to find time to feed him and care for my other children? They probably feel so neglected. I feel so guilty. I’m in so much pain. My boobs are so sore. I don’t know how I’m going to do this” This is postpartum. I forgot how hard it was. But as hard as it may be, I’m so damn proud of this body for bringing another life into this world. It may be scarred and swollen and saggy, but it is beautiful. They say it takes a village to care for a postpartum mom. And that statement could not be more true. I’m slowly starting to feel more normal, thanks to our village. But until then, I’m accepting that it’s ok to not be ok.
