  1. The 27th December 2024 was the day I didn't want to arrive. The surgeons, cardiologists, consultants and doctors were all meeting to confirm that there was nothing more they could do for Jac medically and that nobody (who may have been away over Christmas) had any inspired ideas. They had brought this meeting forward because the excessive blood clots meant that Jac's little body was running out of room for new "lines" to administer drugs through. If we had to let him go, it needed to happen soon to ensure that it would be as pain free as possible. In the morning, my parents arrived at the hospital as they were taking our "big boys" back to their house for a few days. They spent some precious time with Jac. Kissed him, held his hand and told him they loved him. I could tell they were trying to be brave. For me, and for Jac. Granny later said that she didn't want Jac to see her cry. Nye and Elis both shared their final moments with their baby brother too. We knew that this was likely their final kiss goodbye, but they had no idea, and watching this moment play out was utterly devastating. My heart was physically aching and I so desperately hoped that it was all an awful nightmare. After they all left, Peter and I were called back in to talk to the medical team following their meeting. The consultant asked for our feelings on what was going on and as I listened, I had the tiniest glimmer of hope that they had come up with another option for him. But he soon confirmed that the decision was unanimous and we had to prepare to say goodbye, before Jac's breathing tube would be removed. My heart broke all over again as any glimmer of hope was torn away and the nurses began to prepare for our last night together. . . . . heartwarrior | child loss | heartsurgery | baby loss

  2. On the 24th December 2024, our baby boy Jac was taken in for his third heart surgery. This time, a reconstruction of his heart due to his AVSD (he was born with large holes in the walls of his heart). We always knew he would need this surgery eventually, but his medical journey to this point hadn't been smooth (to say the least) and the surgeons were forced to go ahead earlier than expected. At this point, it was the only hope we had of ever fixing his heart. After lots of fuss and kisses, Jac went in for surgery at 9am and we had a long wait ahead. The nurses told us not to expect a call until the evening. We prayed so hard for a Christmas miracle and I hoped so much that this was the start of his recovery journey. However, at around 2pm, as we ate lunch in a nearby town with our two other boys, my phone rang. I'd been feeling very low for the last few hours, a little sick and weak. A Mother's intuition perhaps? It was the surgeon who was working on Jac. He let me know that they had opened up Jac's chest, but they hadn't been able to carry out the surgery as planned and they needed us to come in and speak with the team. Panic set in. After a failed attempt at getting a taxi and a futile chat with a bus driver, we ended up almost running the 25 minutes back to the hospital, toddler and 4 year old in tow. I can't tell you the thoughts that were going through my head at this point, sheer panic and desperation. I didn't know what situation I was walking into and I didn't want to know either. All I knew was that I needed to be with Jac. When we got back to the hospital, the nurses took our "big boys" away, so that we could talk to the surgeon, cardiologist and consultant. After a lot of technical talk about what they found when they opened Jac up; blood clots, blocked arteries etc., we were forced to ask what it meant for his future. And we heard the words we were dreading. "I'm afraid we don't think there's anything more we can do for him." #downsyndrome #trisomy21 #t21 #avsd #heartwarrior

  1. How to lay a patio…the full tutorial! I absolutely love how this turned out, I have used the Kensington Beige Antiqued Porcelain Paving Slabs from Stone Superstore in 90 x 60 cm, they are 2cm thick. These tiles are absolutely stunning, they replicate the aesthetic of aged, natural limestone but in a practical format. Their low maintenance is perfect for busy modern lifestyles and they are available for both outdoor and indoors. Do wear waterproof abrasion resistant gloves and cover yourself when handling the cement. You’ll see in some of the videos that I didn’t consistently do this and I did get some minor chemical burns as a result. Always wear PPE! ❤️ I worked out how many tiles I’d need, then measured and marked out the area with a string line. I dug out the soil to a depth of 17 cm. ❤️ Because we are building a pergola I also created 6 concrete footings. They were each 30 x 30 x 40cm deep, and I used ready to use, fast setting concrete. ❤️ I laid an MOT type 1 hardcore subbase to a depth of 10cm, and compacted it with a whacker (hired). ❤️ For the mortar mix I used a 4:1 ratio of sharp sand/grit and cement. Don’t dot and dab. I laid 5cm mortar cement. ❤️ Mix a fresh batch for each slab, not too sloppy but also not too dry. Create waves in the cement with a spade or trowel to help with the levelling process. ❤️ If you are using porcelain tiles you must apply a priming slurry to the bottom of the tile, otherwise it won’t adhere to the cement. ❤️ The levelling process took me a long time tbh, I used a spirit level and would tap it down using a mallet and piece of wood until it was mm perfect 😅 ❤️ I used spacers and levellers between each tile ❤️ Finally I cleaned the tiles with a jet wash,, applied 2 coats of tile protector and then light grey brush-in grout, and a final coat of tile protector. All I have to do now is build a pergola 🥴 Do ask any questions in the comments & save this for later! I’d love to know if this has inspired you?! #porcelainpaving #diypatio #diypaving #pavingproject #diygardenprojects #patio #patioproject
