  2. How I got that dream beam look 🤩👇🏼 ✨Drop the word “list” for full product links✨ I had a picture in my head how I wanted these beams to look and they turned out even better than I’d imagined! The boards themselves were true 2x6s from a sweet friend’s scrap pile. With them sitting outside, they naturally weathered into a beautiful grey that I stained on top of. But no worries if you have new wood because it’s easy to replicate a “weathered wood” finish! DIY weathered wood✨ 1. Mix equal parts water and baking soda, enough to apply it thickly over your wood. 2. Cover the wood with thick coats of the baking soda paste using a standard paintbrush, then leave the wood in the sun to dry for at least six hours. 3. If you want to either intensify the reaction or speed it up, spray the wood with white vinegar soon after applying the baking soda and water mixture. 4. After the wood has spent a day in the sun, brush away the dried baking soda with a hard-bristle brush, following the grain of the wood. 5. Rinse with water or a dampened rag, and then dry the wood with a clean cloth. *Use on untreated woods like redwood, cedar, pine, mahogany, and red oak* If it’s not a sunny day to bask, you can’t go wrong with a simple grey paint wash (grey paint + water mature), it just may look not as natural though. For stain, I’ve been enjoying @artisanenhancements Plant-based Nature’s Wood Stain. It’s one of the safer products I can use to stain indoors and emits zero VOC and is a water-alkyd making it easy cleanup 🙌🏼 Stain Ratio✨ 4 tablespoons Roasted Pecan 2 tablespoons Dark Walnut 1/4 cup of water I like adding water to increase transparency and I’ve found it eliminates the wipe off step. This ratio added just enough warmth back into my wood on top of the weathered grey so it mixed well with the other woods in our home. Finished with their Clear Topcoat that acts as a penetrating sealer and also deepens the color. I’m going to be forever drooling over these wood beams 😍 . . #woodbeams #diyhomedecor #diyhomeprojects #homerenovation #entrywayideas #design #howto #roominspiration #beforeandafters #homemade #livingroom #roommakeover #giftedproduct

  1. IT’S FRIDAY’S FEATURE PRESENTATION, TUESDAY EDITION & IG doesn’t allow enough words in a caption for me to tell the story of this amazing human + gifted maker of 🧚‍♀️ sculptures + animals on oil + tiny doll house delights = artist @triciasaroya. Tricia had a most eccentric upbringing on a date farm in CA’s Coachella Valley as her free-spirited parents took her out of school in 6th grade & introduced her to the family 📚. Fortunately, pops was a pilot w/ free airline passes so Tricia traveled the world & got an education the fun way before, at 17, going back to school & getting her BA in Art History. She then launched a biz selling southwestern Native American jewelry which lasted almost 10 yrs before she reinvented herself as a merchandiser, which led to a floral design biz, which led to a flourishing even design biz & restoration of an old Santa Barbara area ranch which became 1 of the top 💒 venues in the US. Then life happened & Tricia turned inward. She’d been seeking guidance from her Spirit & asked for a sign (in neon plz) re: next step which happened when she stumbled on a derelict trailer tucked against an old barn. It was riddled w/ holes + mice + rot + unspeakable stains = destined for the dump. NO DUMP FOR YOU! She rescued the sad trailer & friends let her park the rambling wreck on their rural coastal avocado orchard in exchange for Tricia’s work on the infrastructure. A plan was afoot! Tricia dug trenches for pipes, repaired holes & did plumbing + electrical stuff & laid tile. She painted over fugly fake wood, brought in her beloved tea cabinet from India, a fav comfy chair & threw down beautiful thrift-found Oriental rugs. She built a pretty desk, a window seat in lieu of the horrid bolt-down sofa & made sure everything doubled as a storage opportunity. The wee vardo you see in the pic above lives next to the colorful trailer & serves as a fantasy escape pod for meditation & being present in a miraculous life that’s brought Tricia tears, laughter, struggle & love. On the horizon for this creative dynamo (who is a reg contributor to Enchanted Living Mag) is a divination card biz & finishing her book. I shall be 1st in line for that. 🧚‍♀️

  2. YAHTZEE! I finally figured something out which probably I’ve known subconsciously for a while but it only came to the top of my mind this morning & it’s this: PUSH THAT ENVELOPE UNTIL YOU THINK IT’S TOO FAR. Seriously, it’s no secret I’ve repainted & redecorated rooms in this house 2 & 3 (errrr 4 😂) times before I was reasonably happy with them. The only rooms which have escaped THE WRATH OF THE REDO are the kitchen & upstairs bathroom. I knew with these rooms I had ONE SHOT b/c of the expense of planning large-scale remodels, so I pulled all the stops & pushed things creatively to the point that even I cringed & flinched. And guess what? Wincing seems to be the tipping point for what ultimately will make me happy. If I don’t cringe on Day 1, a redo is just around the corner. By Day 10, I won’t be cringing anymore. I’ll just be happy. Hopefully that’s true with this wall b/c we’re still in the 10-day window & I’m still cringing. Anyone else suffer from The Cringe Threshold in their creative process?🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s a mystery & I shan’t be solving it soon. And btw, I decided against the funky floral DIY collage art on this wall b/c it’s next to a closet & I could see us knocking all or parts of it down every time we opened the door. So, we’ve hung a special piece of art which Mike & I bought for $56 at an antique mall & found out years later is a very rare Rembrandt lifetime etching from the 1630’s. That’s right! These things really do happen. I’ll put a link in my stories later to the blog post I wrote about this adventure & about this extraordinary but humble work of art. That’s all for today. In the meantime, swipe for the before version & have a great week everyone!

  3. IT’S FRIDAY’S FEATURE PRESENTATION & PREPARE TO BE INSPIRED b/c we’re headed to a gorgeous rehabbed 1905 firehouse loft in 🍊NJ to visit the massively talented decorative & furniture artist & intuitively gifted designer, Bailey Li of @interiorista_baileyli. Bailey found her way into the design 🌎 after working in corporate sales & as a real estate agent when she began staging properties to help clients visualize blank slates as their own homes. Bailey shies from defining her style b/c she believes it’s always expanding & evolving, although in looking at the sum total of her work, I’d say there’s a thread of dynamically glamorous & romantically gritty energy running through all her projects, including her home which you’ll see in the 1st 4 pics (📸 by @brianwinstonfraser). Of course, the stars of the shows in Bailey’s projects & what takes her work from mere design to actual art installations are her stunning art walls & decorative flourishes she applies to basically any surface w/ lovely mixtures of metallics & color combos ranging from subtle & sublime to spectacularly big & bright alchemies such as the majestic & eyepopping 18-ft mural in pic 5 (this jaw dropper was Bailey’s 1st art wall done for a client). I ❤️ many things about Bailey’s work but, putting aside her obvious technical skill, what impresses me most about this lady is her ability to translate psychology & emotion into aesthetics as she digs deep into her clients’ psyches & uncovers 🔑 elements of their personalities which she then translates into a new physical reality that they can call home (she believes happiness comes from the synergy between environments & their inmates & accomplishes this by ensuring everything surrounding her clients resonates w/ them, so of course each space is intensely personal to its owner & yet they’re so clearly Bailey’s work). I chose Bailey’s own home (the firehouse loft) as the lead pic b/c I’m forever intrigued by how gifted artists & designers assemble & style their personal spaces, but swipe through for a few of her lush projects in pics 5-9. She’s just pure genius. That is all. ❤️
