  3. 🐺 “Squelette” 🐺 Right I can’t wait a moment longer. I’ve been dying to share these with you for months! Working with @d_a_n_jones on his second book Wolves Of Winter I developed these character portraits. Not only do I read the book but Dan writes me character profiles and tells me how he imagines them, and we back and forth until we create something that feels true to the book but also has my slant. We put these up as windows to promote the release, last year, but this time I wanted to really work on poster designs and try to expand the visual lore. Each piece took a week to illustrate. I feel like it celebrates Dan’s story while also I’ve had the time and space to actually push myself artistically and feel proud and connected to the result. There will be prints available next week sometime!

So once again from midnight tomorrow we are being forced to stop our customers from sitting & having food or drink at the Tea Gardens! ...Yet you can sit indoors and have your hair and nails done, have a facial and your eyebrows waxed, work out in a sweaty gym, go shopping in a crowded area picking produce up and putting it down again ! Messy application 🤝🏼 poor retention 💡Product removal is rushed and heavy handed. Leading to overfilling of the natural nail, burning sensation from friction, bleeding 💡Prep is quick but painful. Causing unnecessary bleeding, tools pushed up and under eponychium (cuticle) further than necessary - risking infection 💡Shaping the nail whilst slicing into the clients fingers 💡Misshaping the clients natural nails, filing away the side walls to achieve a nail shape - leading to stress fractures GREEN FLAGS 👇🏻 ✅ A well trained tech will consciously move their file/e-file to avoid that unnecessary burning sensation and over-filing the natural nail ✅ Prepping the cuticles requires little to no pressure when using the right tools for the job. If you are experiencing regular pain/bleeding, better care and better tools are needed to avoid this ✅ A well trained tech will “season” their hand file to avoid slicing their clients fingers when shaping ✅ Your tech should refuse certain nail shapes if they cannot anatomically work on the client. Removing the side walls to achieve e.g. a stiletto nail, can result in a weakened nail structure. Leading to stress fractures, often very low down on the nail plate.   2. The “booked and busy” mindset is overrated! And I don’t want to be fully booked anymore. My goal has always been to run a successful business that is in demand enough that I can charge my worth, and have a healthy balance between my work and personal life. My business might seem “successful” from the outside, but the “hustle culture” has ultimately clouded this goal, and lead to: ✨Burnout x 100 ✨No spare time/money for education/bettering my business ✨Little to no disposable income ✨Poor boundaries ✨Anxiety and Stress ✨Bad eating habits, poor sleep & sporadic exercise I speak to numerous nail techs in exactly the same boat, and it’s not sustainable.   3. You can’t be everyone’s cup of tea! As Nail Techs, we have to provide the value which aligns with our own values. This means we are not always going to be the right nail tech for everyone. Seeing a private tech often means 💡Higher price points due to elevated education and standards, as well as using luxury products and tools we are constantly investing in. Tools that we take the time to sterilise to minimise risk of cross contamination and infection. Hours and hours go into practicing nail art techniques, not to mention how long it can take on the day 💡Longer appointment times to ensure longevity and quality for your manicures. Add intricate nail art on top of that and you’re sure as hell not going to be in and out in 45 minutes. You’ll also never overlap and be left waiting in my studio 💡Natural nail care is the priority, and not your money. If nails are severely damaged or infected, techs are likely to refuse service. Regular appointments are also a part of this to avoid damage, this in itself is a commitment and should be considered before seeing a private tech The list goes on.   2. Thanks again everyone who made the past week so fab with your presence and kind words! It’s not over yet. @create98leigh is open again tomorrow, and my @leigharttrail show is up until Saturday. And yes! It’s all hand stitched. Yes! It’s Southend pier! Yes! It took ages, and yes, I am very patient. I worked on this 12” hoop for over a year, mainly whilst watching every episode of Catfish INCLUDING the awful UK ones.   3. My first post all year - first piece of work all year. All those cliches about how getting started is the hardest part... but this past year has really been something else, eh? The effort it took for me to lift this needle. It may as well have been a... (brief pause while I google “what are some examples of heavy things”) We moved house at Christmas, and having more space is a luxurious big change, but it hasn’t magically created more time, better attention span, less misery or any of those other classic covid struggles. But I did manage to start, in spite of all that, so here are the earliest stitches of my Pier Review. (Cz whatever else is going on, there’s still always time for a good pun).   1. Yesterday I learned that in 1945, my grandmother Joan was a ballot counter in the Labour landslide election that ousted Churchill. She was 20! I wore her jewellery last night when me and my sister went to be ballot counters for the first time... FOR A LABOUR LANDSLIDE. Southend has gone red! What an experience. It was like being in an airport - terrible strip lighting, no sense of time. I ate a tiramisu at midnight, and got home at 4am as the sun was making an appearance. The sky was changing, just like our government. What an incredible moment to be part of. Enormously grateful to @holsbolsmorgan for suggesting I applied to do this with her! We followed in Gran's footsteps! Xxx

  2. What an absolute privilege to share this with you Fa! Great launch day / evening of our @leigharttrail exhibition. So many people we love showed up to support us, it was quite overwhelmingly lovely! Particularly loved when you pushed me out of the way as I went to make a speech @hickorywind52 and said "I'm going first, I'm older than you" 😆 The Phabulous Café is open Mon-Sat for you to see it, we'll be there all next Saturday too if you missed us yesterday. Huge thanks to everyone who bought a print, book or set of postcards xxx

  3. 📣 Something really exciting to share.... My brilliant photographer dad @hickorywind52 and I will be exhibiting in the 2024 @leigharttrail with a collaborative series of work combining his photographs and my poetry. I have been hassling my dad to enter the Art Trail, which we both love, for years, so it's extra special to be sharing this with him! Lots more detail to come but we found out this week that we made it in, and it's safe to say we are pretty made up. Right, Fa, let's do this!! #leigharttrail Special thanks to @bronwynoldhamphotography and @littleleighstitchery the Art Trail Wives for their support and encouragement to apply xx
