  1. Mom is dying Alone. My name is Peter Van Geit, born in Belgium, settled in India in 1998. Since 25 years India is my home, my life, work and my future are here. I’m the only son of my mom Irena Van Goethem, 92 years, who is suffering from stage 4 breast cancer. Her doctor told me that she has little time left and might die soon. My dad died 7 years ago and there is no one else to take care of her. I have been unable to visit her since 5 years as my passport was taken away in 2018 after the police blamed me for a natural forest fire in which several hikers died. An upstanding judge granted me bail stating there is no evidence to blame me. I filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court of India requesting for emergency travel. The Belgian consulate is unwilling to support my appeal. Both are unlikely to succeed without further public support as they doubt my affinity towards India. I am the only son and I just want to say goodbye to mom one last time... India is my home, I built my entire life here and have absolutely no interest in moving elsewhere.   2. After spending the entire summer in the India Himalayas crossing 120 high passes over 3500 km, I was looking out for a suitable location for my next “ultra journey”. My eyes fell on the Sahyadri, or the Western Ghats, a mountain range that stretches over 1600 km along the Western coast of South India. In the state of Maharashtra, these mountains are formed by ancient volcanoes giving form to near-vertical rock formations. During the 16th century, India faced frequent invasions by the Mughals who came to plunder the riches of the subcontinent. The Marathas, lead by an ancient warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, stood up against these invaders by building 300 forts across the Sahyadri. The forts were built on top of steep pinnacles rendering the huge armies of the Mughals ineffective with the Marathas waging a guerilla-style war from these impregnable fortresses.   3. I settled for the night in an empty shelter in the isolated dwelling of Kundal, below the 2nd pass in the Gangotri-Kedarna traverse. Late night I heard footsteps nearby in the snow. Next something was on top of the roof of my shelter! I took one of my hiking poles and kicked against the roof planks. Silence followed. The same happened trice during the night. My 7am alarm woke me up. Sun rays were shining through the many openings in my shelter. I packed up my stuff and set of to the pass crossing over from Dharm Ganga valley (Pinswari) to the Bal Ganga valley (Gainwali).   1. When you hear the word Kasol many things come to mind, the beautiful villages, the cool cafes, the hippie life and of course the magical valley along the parvati river. Everyone's got their own reasons to be there. Well right. This is one of those places in the beautiful valley, the main Kasol that attracts numbers of travellers, it has its own charm which will surely male you revisit this place. One of the reasons that i didn't wanted to write any flashy quotes with this post was that i really wanted to share what exactly i felt when i was standing there taking this pic. Undoubtedly it was an amazing experience but what dissapointed me the most was the garbage left behind by tourists(wouldn't call them nature lovers or explorers) who came here with their beer/liquor bottles, chakhna, all sort of non-biodegradable stuff. All wrappers packets and stuff thrown in this river which supports the many lives here in this region n the ecosystem of this valley. It was disheartening to the core. And this isn't the only place, its happening all over the Himalayan region. There are rules of disposing human waste which we easily forget when we are at such places. It would be great if we all can just take small responsibilities to just dump in our waste in the litter boxes, if you don't find one just carry a backpack n dump it later. I have always wanted to go on a trek and collect all the waste from there. There are already campaigns going on and it would be really great to be a part of it or to start something on our own.
