  2. Last year, I finally made it to the real life Halloweentown. Parts of Disney’s Halloweentown were filmed in St. Helens, Oregon, and every fall the town transforms for its annual Spirit of Halloweentown celebration. You can see recognizable filming locations around town, including the plaza, and of course take a photo with the giant pumpkin. The original movie came out in 1998, so visiting is basically peak millennial Halloween nostalgia lol I’m glad I finally experienced it, but this was probably a one and done visit for me. It gets VERY crowded, and the parking situation can be a bit chaotic, so if crowds aren’t your thing, I’d recommend going early and planning ahead.   3. 📍 Mount Jo, Lake Placid, New York 🥾 ~2.5 miles round trip ⛰️ ~700–750 ft elevation gain ⏱️ Short hike, but expect rocky and fairly steep sections! There are two routes to the summit: the Short Trail (1.1 miles one way) and Long Trail (1.3 miles one way). The Short Trail is steeper and rougher, while the Long Trail is a little more gradual. You can also take one up and the other down to make it a loop. IMPORTANT: The trail starts from the Adirondak Loj/Heart Lake area. You do not need a hiking reservation like you do for Indian Head, but you do have to pay to park.   3. Recipes straight from my Mamaw’s kitchen ❤️ 🥄 When I was little, I didn’t know what the word “Appalachian” meant - never really used or even heard it much until high school or college. My grandparents didn’t “try” to be Appalachian, they just were. My mamaw would start flat-footin’ any time she had the chance and sang hymns at the top of her lungs. Some yummy dessert was always baking in the oven, and the garden was overflowing with tomatoes every summer. Don’t tell her, but my papaw’s cornbread was even better than hers. Made with buttermilk - never sweet. No recipe for it so I can’t share it, my papaw always just measured with his heart. I wish I appreciated more when I had her how really cool and influential on me she was. I hope you enjoy these recipes - straight from my mamaw herself. Make sure to reserve yours online at the Scenic Hot Springs Website!   1. This is easily one of the most unique hikes in Washington 👀🥾🌋 Be sure to follow for all the best Washington adventures ☺️ 📌save for future planning! This is a great hike to do if you’re visiting Washington or the Portland area as it’s in the Columbia River Gorge! Made up of many switchbacks up an ancient volcano, this hike gives your panoramic views of the Gorge below. The paths and switchbacks were made and put into place by a man in 1915, and it is now a state park in Washington 🌲🌊 📍Beacon Rock, near Stevenson, WA 🥾1.5 miles round trip, rated moderate (I’d say on the easy side of moderate) 🚙3.5 hours from Seattle, just under an hour from Portland 🐶Dogs on leash (you will be crossing over some old wooden bridges- they’re safe, but one of our dogs was not a fan at all, and we kept having to carry her over these 😬) 🎟️A Discover Pass is required to park here. If you don’t have the annual pass, there’s a kiosk to purchase a day pass that’s $10 for the day ⚠️This may not be the hike for you if you’re nervous with heights 🌅a great sunset spot on a clear day Would you climb 52 switchbacks for these views? 😍🥾 Share with someone you’d do this with 💚
